Although Kapil Dev' contribution was mainly as a bowler. It is often over looked what a good batsman he was. Patrick Patterson was the fastest West Indian bowler ever. As a kid I used to hear his name quite frequently. Just ask Graham Gooch about the 1985-86 Test Series. His best performances were in 1985-86 v England, 1988-89 v Australia, 1991 v Australia and 1991 v England. He could have played for West Indies for many more years, but I think West Indies Cricket Board done him over. I am so happy to see this video and to know Patrick has been found well and safe. @@AuthenticSunnah610 I believe patterson and roy gilchrist were the two fastest west indian bowlers. Hard to say for sure as neither of them were officially timed, but eyewitness accounts seem to say it.

Thank you to the journalist for the great work and the wonderful interview. Mr. Patterson deserves recognition no matter what his present state is. There should be a foundation set up to help these retired sporting individuals who didn’t accomplish anything from their playing days, after all they did make their respective countries and regions happy with their contributions.... even though a very short interview and was looking to hear more from Patrick Patterson, I am still greatfull for it......
His eyes are revealing something tragic maybe? Maybe he expected more from WI cricket board but never received recognition from them. Maybe he ran into some health issues? Whatever it is he is probably one of the fastest bowlers with a big bright smile if there was one for me. Hope god keeps him healthy and we continue to remember him.
I wonder if the west indies cricket board ever Offered to help him with depression and mental health issues back when he retired. He had one of the best bowling actions
Thanks, Bharat !! This clip will be remembered forever and ever !! I see sadness in his eyes. Eyes that have seen many a troubled times. What humility !! Take a bow Patrick Patterson !!!!

This tells me everyone is not a greedy Ravi Shastri and are happy in their own space living the life in their very own happy way. Love this man who is so so humble and down to earth like no one in this Cricketing fraternity!
Was looking through last time aus lost at gabba as india just won. I knew Marshall, Walsh, Ambrose so I looked up and for Paterson and found this. Great work by bharat who was also the only Indian journalist covering the recent BGT from Aus
Would be kinda funny if they later found out that he isnt Patrick Patterson after all but rather some random bloke who nodded his head and said yes to everything the journalist asked him.
Thank you Bharat Sir. A very good conversation between you and Patrick Sir. Patrick sir very humbly and coolly answers your questions. Good Job Bharat sir, it reminds my childhood days on seeing Patrick sir, one of the best fastest bowlers
I still remember him bowling lightening fast at Delhi test 1987 on TV. He bowled a bowl outside the offstump at 95+ miles to Raman Lamba the opener. The bowl cut sharply inside and Raman was just lifting his bat but his offstump was rooted out. India was all-out at 75 runs. Then in 1987 world cup due to the atleast 14 overs in an hour rule, he cut short his runup but to get the rythem he drummed his feet over the ground before starting the runup. What a fast bowler he was
Patrick rambo Patterson. One of my favourite. Hurts my heart. The west Indies treated him badly. I spoke to him personally for about an hour and he told me some things. Humble and pleasant man.
Thank you Bharat. Great article describing your search and catch. Nice memories of a fierce Jamaican fast bowler! He looks well but has some wounds from his experiences. I empathise with some of the things you mentioned he revealed to you about what happened since he stopped playing. But he is in a nice spot and is living his life, reunited with his kids as well. Great article and video. Moving.
This is great journalism to tell this story of Patrick Patterson. Brilliant interview. In the summer of 1986 I had joined Glamorgan CCC and on a Saturday morning at St Helens cricket ground Lancashire CCC turned up and I remember watching Patrick Patterson get of the coach. He was tall, lean and muscular and the mere sight of him sent chills down my spine. This was the fastest bowler in the World. Only cricket can do this. What a game and what a bowler Patterson was.
"Patrick Peterson" a fierce competition for all the batsman that faced him and today such a humble guy, down to earth and trying to recall if he did all that what's spoken about him. Great wow.
From then until now we have seen the fall of west indies cricket which is the result of how bad we treat our greatest players Patrick Patterson is truly the (legend ) same address for twenty years but couldn't be found kmt
Great video and great to see Patrick again. Had the pleasure of seeing him play for my county, Lancashire, many times. Fearsome does not do it justice. Terrific fast bowler and happy to see him looking well.
Many thanks to the journalist for making this video. Happy to see Patto after 2 decades, I watched his bowing on TV against India in the Tri series at Australia in 1991 - 92 & also in few other series Watching this great bowler running at menacing speed and delivered extremely quick and unplayable deliveries. It was soo thrilling to watch his bowling. He got beautiful action and lethal pace & bounce which terrified most of the batsmen. I feel somewhat sad to see his present life, he deserves more . Even T20 Player's are earning millions nowadays but this great man lives in almost poverty conditions. My humble request to all those wealthy Cricketers - PLEASE HELP PATTO. He deserves a better life. God Bless Patterson the Great
I watched the video and read the article in the description. It's high class journalism - determined and questioning, yet sympathetic and respectful. It also raises a lot of questions without feeling like it has to project too many answers. And it brings a tear to my eye; as a kid ,his was the only action I would always try to copy. It's sad to hear some of Patrick's story , but I hope he can keep on top of his demons. It would be intersting to hear what some of his ex-teamates have to say about how and why he was dropped etc..
It is so sad for me to watch this, most probably because we in India live cricket. He seems content and happy, so that’s what matters at the end of the day. Selfless man, I must say 🙏

He didn't look very happy. He was my favourite bowler full of power, technique & perfection. Thanks Indian Express to search him & show us.
dude what is our age?🙄
what an " Down to earth" legend.......I still remember Patrick Patterson's bowling in 1987 world cup........Hats off to him
Seriously was there at the gee in 89 when he cleaned up Aussies ( just pure speed
I wish him all the best.
The best in West
@@AuthenticSunnah610 I believe patterson and roy gilchrist were the two fastest west indian bowlers. Hard to say for sure as neither of them were officially timed, but eyewitness accounts seem to say it.
Thanks to this journo. What an awesome man: Patrick !!! Seems to be leading a simple, peaceful life. When the journo mentioned his fiery spell hitting Gordon Greenidge Patrick's smile said it all....A big fan of Patrick (hated him when he bowled against India though :)).
Thank you to the journalist for the great work and the wonderful interview. Mr. Patterson deserves recognition no matter what his present state is. It is a pity that some greats have to deal with this on their own when they have contributed so much to the world by their talent. Wishing him all the best.
I was a 70s kid, 80s teenager in India. How can i not love the West Indians!
Great Fast Bowler ! We used to call him Pat Patrick Patterson....I was inspired by him in my younger days....I followed him...and became a fast n furious bowler at that time in my college days...he is genius.....World cricket should take his services...We all support you Patrick....Love You !!!
Remember him opening the bowling with Wasim Akram for Lancashire in the late 80s/ early 90,s..... What a new ball partnership...
Respect! Journalist!
saw Patto in Guyana at Bourda as a school boy. Phenomenal
Oh boy! There should be a foundation set up to help these retired sporting individuals who didn’t accomplish anything from their playing days, after all they did make their respective countries and regions happy with their contributions.... even though a very short interview and was looking to hear more from Patrick Patterson, I am still greatfull for it......
This is how one should take life as it comes. No show of any regret. Thoroughly enjoying life!
I wonder if the west indies cricket board ever
Offered to help him with depression and mental health issues back when he retired. He had one of the best bowling actions
Brought tears to my eyes.. was a terror for the batsmen of the era
Thanks Bharat for finding him out
Thanks, Bharat !! This clip will be remembered forever and ever !! I see sadness in his eyes. Eyes that have seen many a troubled times. What humility !! Take a bow Patrick Patterson !!!!
That was a really a poignant piece. Thanks Bharat for tracking down Patterson and writing about this fearsome bowler., really sad to know the present predicament of this Lion..!
I cried
y few are sad here.. don't you see he is so adequate and so contained in himself.. how can we drop our habit of judging
good man, great bowler
it's great that you found him. A piece of him can be seen by many of us, who adored him as a fast bowler for west indies cricket.
What a great story about a true fast bowler . Sad to see how his memory is a bit down but happy to see he is at peace . Hope someone can make a benefit match for him ,unlike the new bunch of cricketers who retire with Ferrari’s and Porsche’s and ten houses this man is happy and at peace in part to the help he is getting from his children .
Imagine him being born to play in this era, he could have become a multimillionaire.
4:26 that I hope you understand is eventually the summary of the politeness of the west Indian legends ❤️
The most synchro name I heard for the first time in cricket in my childhood days. Patrick Patterson . This interview is a classic and everyone wants to be interviewed for their greatness in their retirement days.
This tells me everyone is not a greedy Ravi Shastri and are happy in their own space living the life in their very own happy way. Love this man who is so so humble and down to earth like no one in this Cricketing fraternity!
After Andy Roberts and Malcolm Marshall my favourite west Indian great fast bowler.
Was looking through last time aus lost at gabba as india just won. I knew Marshall, Walsh, Ambrose so I looked up and for Paterson and found this. Great work by bharat who was also the only Indian journalist covering the recent BGT from Aus
I'm happy n glad to share birthday with him!
Would be kinda funny if they later found out that he isnt Patrick Patterson after all but rather some random bloke who nodded his head and said yes to everything the journalist asked him.
No he has found the right person he is indeed honorable sir Patrick paterson 🙌🙏
What a fast bowler he was
Sir pattrick you are true legend I salute you god bless you
Patrick rambo Patterson. One of my favourite. Hurts my heart. The west Indies treated him badly. I spoke to him personally for about an hour and he told me some things. Humble and pleasant man.
Please put the whole video....if there is. This makes me cry.
Moving.
Tears come to my eyes when I watch it again and again!!
Great wow.
Bharat Sunderesan is a gem for cricket... a very genuine and underrated cricket journalist.
Living in present moment that's great.Very humble and takes his cricket glamour so lightly this makes him great..
It is so sad for me to watch this, most probably because we in India live cricket. He seems content and happy, so that’s what matters at the end of the day. Selfless man, I must say 🙏
this journalist is owsum. patrick patterson was god, had he got just a lil control over his line and length, he would have been among the greatest of the greats. i feel for those who has to face his pace.
True.
Just loved his bowling action those days of life
Cricket legend....I still tell his stories to my son....especially running style and pace
I get the feeling that this gem of a bowler now suffers from dementia or some sort of PTSD ,he seems ill I hope he is well taken care of by the cricket fraternity. His contribution to the game has to be cherished, appreciated & more importantly reciprocated to the best of one's abilities.& Yes thank u Bharat for unearthing this great player from oblivion
