[UNIHERTZ TITAN POCKET REVIEW]
These days, if I’m showing you a phone with a physical keyboard on the MrMobile channel, odds are it’s in an episode of my "When Phones Were Fun" throwback series.
Well, not today. Whether you’re a BlackBerry holdout, a nostalgic rubbernecker, or something in between ... there’s a new QWERTY keyboard communicator in town - the Titan Pocket, from Unihertz. Just like the last Titan, this one is a BlackBerry copy-paste in almost everything but the name ... but this one got hit with a shrink ray to make carrying it much less cumbersome. Find out if that, plus the affordable price, is enough to make it worth your $299 ... in MrMobile's Titan Pocket Review!

I remember you were always the guy among the tech RUclipsrs who didn’t have a Samsung or an iPhone. You used to carry a KeyOne
And a Nokia 1020
Yes! I remember your KeyOne Review as well!
@@jstan5802 omg i remember when the 1520 was the goat
And then a KEY2 after that
also A Pixel Phone
that blue blackberry though looks amazing even today.
It's like a classic car, gets better with age
I concur!!
@@The-Heart-Will-Testify yeah, no one will say this about today's boring slab of glass phones
What model is it?
@@MEAKU15 it's a Blackberry Classic.
hearing about blackberry in 2021 makes me nostalgic.
Hi.The nostalgia ìs coming back this year. After the Titan Pocket,is going to release very soòn,a 5G Blackberry !
Me as well😁
Man, I saw the thumbnail and actually thought it was a video for 'When Phones Were Fun' that thing looks.... interesting.
Same Here. But not disappointed. His content is always worth watching IMO.
I thought I was the only one. LeL
@@josiahstearns9615 yup pretty much he's an a plus in my book 😁
I had the exact same thought! Pretty interesting that it’s got modern insides. A shame but understandable, that’s the camera suffers so much.
You might be the only one who is reviewing these types of tech products. Love your vids
Sulit Tech Reviews reviews these niche smartphones. Sadly the language is Filipino only.
@David Boi239 yeah I find myself watching less and less of tech reviews on RUclips because they all seem similar and boring with many many important facts being missed out and only spending 60% of the video stating the obvious like this new iPhone comes in 5 colors.
I now mostly only watch more special reviewers like Mr Mobile here and some Taiwanese reviewers who are Awesome in reviewing almost everything of the phone in a 25min video instead of stating the obvious in a 10min video
I have been using this for a little over a month (currently typing this comment on it) and I love it. Simple, annoys me enough to where I don't wannabe be on it too often and the sound quality is way better than any of my old iPhones. I'm on T-Mobile and all I did was take my sim card out of my iPhone and put it in this one and it worked instantly, no need to even go to the store.
thats exactly why i am considering getting one. aside form wanting a keyboard phone i want less screentime doom scrolling and this seems to be a good solution
What if you don’t have a SIM card to put in it from a previous iPhone?
I miss my blackberry. I could type 10x faster than a touch screen without even looking at the keyboard. This phone looks really interesting.
I'd love to have one of these honestly. Though I do wonder why LG didn't buy off the Blackberry brand and relaunch it. Might have been a success.
Look to the past, as we head for the future
to reclaim the Digital World! With faith in ourselves, and trust in each other, we live by the lessons we've learned! As we work towards one solution, through a Spirit Evolution
LG can't even succeed with its own mobile products
Lov the hands free style
@@Nauj1017 👍At least its not forgotten.
LG no long sell phones, at least in North America as they shut down their mobile devision.
This evokes nostalgia of the Blackberry era. The unmet need for physical keyboard is huge, and the Titan would fill much of the gap. Count me in
I used the BB classic for two years. it was really the best phone I ever had. Starting an app with a key push is something that I really miss.
Thankfully, almost every keyboard phone that exists has keyboard shortcuts to launch apps and do other system functions
I recently purchased one of these simply to experience the nostalgia of phones of old. Before we were all addicted to the giant screens and actually used our phones to communicate rather than an all inclusive social media machine.
How did it go? I've got a S22+ and still find myself wanting one.
Its Nov 2022 and I am thinking of getting this unit. How did you go using the unit all this time? Recommended still?
Exactly why I'm considering this. A phone to save us from our phones. Having something that is good at communicating but not much else is exactly what I'm looking for.
It’s minimal and Bond like
As a lawyer (albeit not one specialised in intellectual property), I frankly don’t think BlackBerry could patent the Alt and Caps keys placement, since it’s part of a standard qwerty keyboard design: there would be no merit, legally speaking, in a patent that simply aims to protect that same design on a smaller scale. It’s as if I tried to copyright a miniaturised guitar fretboard! Besides, every qwerty phone ever produced had the same standard keys placement, from Nokia to Palm devices.
Therefore, I believe Unihertz made this choice for other reasons. Specifically, they probably wanted to differentiate themselves and exploit the non-screen real estate as best as they could (they didn’t want a semi-empty belt around the fingerprint sensor). Think of the BB Passport, it did not have any modifier keys but nobody complained since the software took care everything. Basically, Unihertz created a hybrid Passport-Q10 keyboard in order to optimise space and appeal to both audiences, at the cost, of course, of a more comfortable typing experience. That said, I’m not sure I’ll use the alt and caps keys often, since I didn’t on the Priv either.
I agree Andy. I have a KEY 2 and the placement of the sym key is the only issue I have with the keyboard
It doesn't matter if they can patent it or not, what matters is the threat of a lawsuit (see Apple suing Samsung for looking too similar).
Commenting from the Titan Pocket. 😊 great video!
Your videos are good..
For a second, I thought it was a “when phones where fun” video. 😂
I got it 3 days ago. This Titan Pocket is amazing 😍 Absolutely perfect friend for business stuff (mails, messengers, news).
The blue blackberry at 1:25 is absolutely stunning! Would take that as my primary in a heartbeat.
It's cheap to find a black version of the BB Classic, but that cobalt blue one is quite rare and usually expensive
Just got mine for my daily carry. Honestly one of my best purchases ever, its crafted so well its ridiculous.
what cell carrier your using?
Michael, just letting you know how much I appreciate your content. It's such a refreshing take from the typical tech reviews. Keep doing your thing, man!
Love the looks of this phone. More manufacturers should come up with phones like this.
I bought a Titan Unihertz and am loving itttt. The more i use it, the more i learn more features ❤️ 😍
You and Michael Josh of Gadget Match are criminally underrated tech reviewers. Your reviews should clear 1 million views every time.
Great breakdown of the phone ,nice to see QWERTY making a come back of sorts.
You are always amazing Michael and this is amazing. There's no one else on Earth who is eager to review a QWERTY keyboard BB reminding phone.
I had a BB Bold and have a Nokia E71(still alive and functioning). That level of awesomeness is never found in any other smartphone.
Love the review.
love the new fast paced energized production of your videos, and the fact that you never settles on one style
Michael, I don't think you know how much I love the Star Trek references.
I want Blackberry!!! I hope they make a come back!
You and TechOdyssey seem to be the only keyboard lovers in town anymore.
I freaking love keyboards.
Thanks for the always interesting content. I couldn't resist the price on this one, so went ahead and pulled the trigger. Looking forward to giving it a try this fall!
*I still don't understand how incredibly underrated this channel is.* I've been following you for the past years and the lack of subscribers has always surprised me. Your videos are consistent, beautifully edited, fun and always hit the right spot if it comes to the most important details of a product you're reviewing! I sincerely hope you will grow faster. Keep up the great work!
I'm just 35 minutes late & already 10k video ,just tells you how much people are hyped about you videos , every one of your videos has nice script indebt details & a little pinch of nostalgia which everyone is hungry for . Love your videos bro , keep it up 👍
I actually miss having phones with keyboards, i miss the feeling of pressing them physically.
Ack now I miss my Samsung rant🤣
Agreed. I flew on 9900. I swear I was faster on that than I am on my ThinkPad. Glass keyboards are a disaster. The ONLY one I've developed any muscle memory for is Message Ease. It's also tho least frustrating as one needn't switch keybards for diacritics and numbers.
I miss being able to text while walking without having to look at the screen. As far as texting's concerned, that really was the pinnacle imo.
@@olivercuenca4109Phones can be classified into types like Communicable Phones like Qwerty or Keyboard Phones or Entertainment Phones or Multipurpose because of the bigger screen which ofcourse comes with more Money for More Purposes. I bet my primary would always be a Keyboard Phone and for other purposes like Camera, Videos and Editing on the go would be a Large Size Flat Touchscreen which we all require along with a Actual Physical Keyboard Phones...It all depends upon how well the design and build quality and battery life and the OS of the New Keyboard Phones will be...The Market is there...But the Companies has to understand when the bring it...
Thanks for covering physical keyboard phone Mr. Mobile ! My first and only Blackberry was the Passport. I absolutely loved it but sold it due to Blackberry ditching its OS... I would love to see a comeback from those phones.
I'm glad Mr mobile promotes qwerty phones, love that vintage bb form factor.
Damn that Key2 looks good even now, release a Key3 😭
The back was my favourite part. Mine fell face first into the ground last year. R.I.P.
@@manthe3711 why RIP? Order a new LCD for it on eBay, they're like $30
@@KBoon Well, the screen was the last straw, but it had other issues. Mostly, the 3500 mAh battery wasn't holding up so well.
@@manthe3711 could technically replace the battery at the same time since you'd be opening up the phone anyway. Spare battery is about $20
@@KBoon mine was like 13 dollar for my keyone and i fixed it !
This is why you're my favorite RUclipsr, the information are always incredible, the video is phenomenal, you deserve way more 10 million subscribers, excellent content Michael!
It's a good thing you invented one for new phones as well
I just noticed the star trek door swooshes. Love it!
Oh Michael, this video screams: "I miss my Key2!". As someone who has bought a Key2 after watching your videos about it back then, all I can say is: fuck man, I miss mine too. :(
Why did you get rid of it, unless it's been damaged I don't see why it wouldn't work just as fine right now.
@@CockatooDude Mine didn't like the jump in the swimming pool last summer.
Since then I'm without a real keyboard on my phone :(
@@Fe_lix Ohhh that sucks damn dude. Well I hope you can find one secondhand sometime. I'm sure they're out there.
@@CockatooDude It was an Azerty version with double SIM, not a very common version but I guess I could find a used one if really but at this point I'm waiting for the fxtec (maybe one day...) and this Titan pocket.
I think I'll go as MrMobile suggested, the Titan Pocket for messaging and working + a slab phone for media and social networks.
@@Fe_lix that would be a great combination
I miss physical keys, I had less typos, and it made me feel good.
I've been rocking the Titan for over a year now as my main driver. Getting the Pocket for early bird price in September for that single handed experience. Will decide which one commands my main driver crown at that time. I'm hugely satisfied with the Titan and look forward to its little brother joining me in my productivity beast workflow!
I tried the Titan last year but wasn't a fan of how hard it was to press the keys. Hopefully the T-Pocket keys are easier
@@KBoon took a couple of weeks to work the keys in. Because of the IP rating it is good but not as click as the passport. The pocket seems to resolve this with the loss of the IP rating.
Despite all the obvious drawbacks, I am excited for this phone and can´t wait to get mine.
That Enterprise sliding-door sound effect in the transitions... *chef's kiss* - Brings me back when I used to watch TOS episodes on TV as a boy. (Reruns, of course, I'm not that old...). Cheers, and be kind with your downstairs neighbour when you pump up the volume. ;-)
I loved this review. It made me remember how much I used to love my Blackberry handsets. I currently own a Fold 2, but I fell off my chair when I saw the price of this device!
Keep up the great work.
It would be an interesting dual carry combo this Titan Pocket and the Fold 2
@@KBoon that would be an awesome combo
Watching this video for a third time now. The video quality is top notch.
This is the phone I need to stop my media consumption while on the toilet and in bed.
The BlackBerry Classic is actually a really attractive phone.
yeah i just wish the blackberry team wasn't such a klutz and werent gonna cut off all of the data from the pre-2016 blackberry phones, if that wasnt the case i probably would have already bought the blackberry classic or the bold.
I am actually very interested in this phone and I’m an iPhone 11 user craving something different. Thanks for the great coverage of it!
Ditto!! Been with iOS for about 10 years and I'm starting to get really bored with it!! Only concern is that most people I interact w/ are iOS users and I'll miss the ease of facetime and share my location
@@jenkenj those are my exact same concerns! What will we do without our blue bubbles? Lol. It really is nice having an iPhone when all your friends and family have one too. It kinda locks you in for sure doesn’t it?
Really happy to be using Android instead of iOS since iPhones are not popular here. Android is just much more versatile and customisable making it ultimately easier for you as a user to switch brands and/or even operating system if you wish so. You are not locked in unlike Apple users. In reality, I wish there would be more interoperability between the different OS, kind of what Microsoft and Google are doing with their operating systems. Then the user could easily switch their devices without losing access to their preferred apps/programs.
If Mr. Mobile reviews a brick, I'd watch it till the end just like how I watch all his videos right now. Man's voice is too good.
I’m glad i fell into this exciting side of youtube
I’m here for “something weird” as Michael so aptly put it. Great video as always sir.
I have the unihertz titan as my main phone for a year now and absolutely love it and will be sticking with it for a very long time. But if I get another one some day itl be the pocket.
If you don't mind me asking,
what's the screen on time of the Unihertz Titan?
I always here the vague "it lasts all day" comments about it but never any specifics.
How is copy and pasting on the titan? Is it any better than normal android/iphone (ie horrible)
I got it yesterday. 2 things. 1. The quality of the camera is woeful...even worse if recording a video. 2. The keyboard is going to take time to get used to. but I like the recording function on WhatsApp that actually turns the google recording into words. It is quite a chunky/hefty phone. I don't regret getting it. I suppose I'll happily use it until maybe just maybe, a new blackberry comes out.
I wish we could get a new phone with a slide out design similar to that of the Blackberry Priv.
@@nightspotlight The Priv was a vertical slider, not a horizontal one.
There is something I saw on the blackberry forum. Not 100 sure what it was something about planets
Absolutely love my Unihertz Jelly 2 and your review made me decide to buy it
Thanks for this input!! I've been debating getting a Jelly 2, I am bored of using iOS for the last 10 years and tired of phones I can't use with one hand or fit in my pocket. Do you use it as an every day phone?
Wow I wast just thinking about my last BlackBerry (Bold, 2011). Oh how I miss the physical keyboards.
Please bring these qwerty keyboard phones back.
Having the jab ain't gonna make anything normal. Do some other non-phone research. Have a listen to Dr Mike Yeadon - if you can find videos of him that haven't been censored, that is.
That blue Blackberry Bold looks so amazing!
It's the Cobalt Blue BlackBerry Classic 🤠
As I thought, this one was edited by someone else. I knew from the get-go the editing was very quick, so many cuts, it's like watching an action film. Not Mr Mobile-esque. It's still a fun & informative video though.
Yeah, I noticed it right away after seeing that 1080p30 resolution. It felt a bit wrong, for some reason.
What about the intro and outro music?
As a "data user" I want to make calls, text, message, tweet, read pdf's & even spreadsheets etc.
A poor camera doesn't matter as long as quick snaps of QR codes & receipts can be done.
I don't take selfies, play games, stream films (or listen to music much - I want the phone to do WORK & communicate on. I just can't decide which Titan to buy.
I've used several BB's over the years & love using BB's swipeable keyboard; easy to scroll and no accidental pressing of links.
I currently have a BB Key 2 but no longer get updates from BB & am running Android 8.
So, the Titan Slim is appealing, the Pocket looks good but screen size may be a step backwards from the Key2 and the Titan, whilst rugged with IP67 & great battery life just looks too big to carry around without a belt clip or holster.
These Unihertz models all have great appeal depending on what we need but my concerns are: warranty, service, regular updates, security, & whether it will work in the U.K with my Provider (EE) and.... it has NO 5G.
The £330 ($300) price tag makes it viable to purchase outright....so tempting.
Perhaps I can wait another year and Unihertz will address these things...
Looking forward to rollable screens because of this. Someone will surely make a device that has a physical keyboard with most of the actual hardware under it and a small always visible bit of screen that folds out all the way to a normal size one. Ideally you'd be able to do that with a flick of the wrist, but I'd settle for something less violent.
Lovely AND useful, I'll love to get one.
PS: yaisus, your trek reference are the spice to an already wonderful channel, keep it up!
I was just considering picking one of these up, thanks for covering the qwerty devices.
Mr. Mobile and JerryRigEverything bring poetry to tech reviews! I love you guys!
I'd love a throwback episode on the xperia mini pro and the xperia pro. Side sliding qwerty's were the way to go for me and I miss them dearly.
Even the ads are something to look forward to. Best Tech RUclipsr.
I like it! I've been wanting a phone that's less addictive and focuses more on productivity and battery life. Might buy one. Only thing that I dislike is the Android. If unihertz supported some kind of linux, it would really seal the deal.
But Android has a Linux kernel.
@@ShadowGD_OfficialYT But it doesn't have a standard c-library and is incompatible with most Linux software.
@@junelawson5719 Yeah.
Good news Ubuntu Touch was ported to it
I like physical keyboards a lot, but n I this approach, but, I see many people wanting something like this a lot.
nice video Mister, wasn't here before because of the live stream of TK Bay.
I do miss phones with physical keyboard and also just smaller sized phones like the Galaxy S2 or iPhone 5s
I love the aesthetic of this phone!! For the amount of media I consume I feel like I'd be over the keyboard in a week.. but I love phones that aren't just a slab. Soooo boring
I find looking at business tech interesting as someone who got into tech and specs for gaming; one might think it's weaker but it's really just as strong, the power is just in different locations.
The Blackberry Priv NEEDS a sequel!
I'm liking your channel. I miss having a qwerty board and need a new phone. I can't justify spending $800+ on something like the Fxtec Pro1 or Astro Slide, so this looks like a nice alternative. Thanks.
At this point we are all used to holding a smartphone. But for me I still wish to live in moments of 2005. When we had psp, mp3 players, or who knows about pocket bell. You answered my question in this video of using both old school and new school phone to our hands.
Same. I'm also stuck in the 2000s and I will be until the day I die.
I really want my business phone like this.
My favourite data scene! God I love 💘 these little trek bits. ❤
I was in love with the BlackBerry Passport it was my favourite phone so far.. It looks like this phone is the closest to it! I wasn't expecting you would review it and I'm really glad you did!
9.5/10
I need this, the lack of no water resistance is the only down
I call it "The Bat Phone!". Batman's Phone at his dire time!
Man, you're using Meze headphones. Romanian product, very fine quality. Keep up the good work!
Greetings from Romania! 😉
Honestly that with pixel camera software I would buy it but that's true for so many gadget phones. With kids a reliable shooter is just a must for me
Would be nice to dual carry with a Pixel 4a
@@KBoon 2 phones is a pain. Had to do it for 2 years for work. Never ever again
Love those explanation cut scenes with you in it😆. Wonderful video!
I miss the sweet experience that was typing an email on such keyboards
Was looking forward to your review. Love your work Mr. Fisher. Hopefully we get new blackberries soon.
I backed the Titan Pocket on Kickstarter. It's very attractive and I'm really excited about the battery life. I'm not as worried about the typing experience because I never used a blackberry.
Then why did you back a device you have no connection to?
@@Sunday8916 because I thought it would be exciting.
I just ordered one from Kickstarter and this being my first purchase from a company that I have followed since they launched Jelly, I am sooo excited to get this in my hands. I must mention that being from India does make it impossible to order from Kickstarter. So I have ordered one at Japan and wait for my friend to bring it when he comes to India. I just hope its worth all the wait and efforts.
I really miss the qwerty keypad phones
Just got mine on Monday and LOVE IT! I cant put it down. Highly recommend 😍😍
How good is the screen for web browsing and watching you tube videos ?
I really miss my blackberry and doubt whether ever I will be able to own one again. It was really dream using BB.
That Data meme was perfect! lol. Ironically, that meme would perfectly capture how I felt watching TNG's "Descent". ;)
Great review, as always. Oh, and love the TOS sliding door transitions.
There's lots of reviews of this phone online and on RUclips but no one has managed to talk about weather or not this phones operating system and kernel are built with privacy and security in mind like an actual Blackberry or is it just meant to only "look" and somewhat function like a Blackberry? That's the most important thing I think it's why there still are people who use Blackberry to begin with, it's not just about look but does it protect your privacy like one too.
And here I am holding a Blackberry Classic, about to sell it.
I'd sell it. BB10 is getting so old with that Android 4.3 runtime, and in the US most carriers are shutting down 3G by January so you won't even be able to make/receive calls and sms...which is one of the only things it still does well these days
I have 2 blackberry phones, outdated but cool. Those keyboards were awesome
Mr. Mobile surfing on a Marc Rebillet page has officially made my week.
folded the galaxy z fold 2 the first time today, first time holding a folding phone, holy shit it feels good
Would purchase this in a hardbeat. Smart Physical keyboard, easy to pocket, decent touchscreen
It's available on their website right now.
I wish more companies launch such phones
You can imagine how much I love that blue BB classic there. In my country BB has and had always been rare. I used to have a black BB classic back when it's last update hadnt even been released yet and I enjoyed every bit of it. I'd still get a blue one in 2024 (which is probably useless except for texting and calling) but that's me. Im still rocking a white nokia n86 and enjoying symbian s60v3 at its best so yeah. very nostalgic...
