can't wait to see major e-sport teams having mechanics at the driver's house, swapping and repairing rigs mid race
Some un-lucky guy has to feed the driver cheetos and mountain dew mid race

yeah man, its so funnyyyyyyyyyyyy
I think we just witness the first ever e sport pit stop
Unscheduled pitstop!
Virtual LeMans was a fucking amazing stream man
Indeed, it was. Now I'm waiting for the Ferdi clips.
@@djdewaal289 You frickin cheesy boi
Yeah i loved it so much
yeah such a good time!
A better time...
That is such a Penske thing to do XD
10/10 Penske thing to do
I think I read somewhere they had actually practiced this before the race (because Penske), which is why there was no frantic fumbling with connectors etc.
yeah, those guy have so much money 💰
DAMNIT PENSKEEEEEE!
Jimbo: That ain’t gonna work!

This is the sim equivalent of Audi's sub 5 min gearbox change during le mans
@The name is Wolfff Red Bull needing a full 25 minutes to only change 2 suspension arms is really not impressive at all if you follow other forms of motorsport.
It might seem fast for F1 standards, but that's just because F1 typically doesn't do fast repair jobs. If anything more than the front wing breaks during the race they usually just give up.
If you want to see really impressive repair work you need to watch endurance racing or service parks in rallying.
Just as an example: watch this accident of Loic Duval at Le Mans 2015.
ruclips.net/video/E4ygNHOqVQc/видео.html
He was able to drag that wreck of a car back to the pits, where the Audi guys repaired it to practically brand new status. That car even set it's fastest race lap after the accident, proving that there was no lasting damage.
And here is the mind boggling part about it: before that accident Duval was directly behind the black #18 Porsche. When he rejoined after the repairs, he was also directly behind that car again, only 1 lap down.
So this whole incident, including the slow drive back to the pits, only cost them a single lap. That's a fast repair job. And by the way, they did have to change 2 suspension arms as well, amongst all the other damage.
@@hannesgroesslinger so... a repair that got compliments from the entire motorsports world is not impressive because Mr Hannes Grösslinger says so? Please do remember that in endurance racing the cars are literally designed to be repaired as easy as possible. Suspension on F1 cars are not built like that. therefore it's not comparible whatsoever.
@@hanssie88 Well, that is certainly true. Suspension on F1 cars is optimized for speed only, not for repairability. Which makes sense, since usually they don't even attempt to repair those things during an active session.
So obviously any repair on an F1 car will take longer than in endurance racing, where the cars are designed with speed AND maintenance in mind.
Still, when there is a team that can repair a massively damaged car in under 10 minutes, and another team needs 25 minutes for some minor suspension fixes because they themselves neglected to design a quick fix mechanism, i find that first example to be more impressive.
The only really impressive thing about it was that they immediately made the decision to make those repairs out on the grid, telling Verstappen not to drive into the pits. That was a massive gamble, since certain kinds of damage simply couldn't be repaired with the limited toolset they had available out there.
"... a repair that got compliments from the entire motorsports world..."
Did it? From the entire motorsports world? I'm really asking here. I know that they got compliments from most of the other F1 teams. But i don't remember anything from outside of F1. Maybe i just didn't pay attention to it, thats certainly possible.
But than again, most people inside the F1 circus, as well as many F1 fans, think that F1 is the entire motorsports world anyway.
Like Ford swapping rotors at Le Mans in '66. The quick swap assembly was brilliant!
@Brylle Cruz no you are right, no need to apologize. My phone puts a period automatically when I double press the space bar. I must have tapped twice accidentally.
Meanwhile when I accidentally touch any settings in a sim the game crashes, the wheel as no ffb, the pedals explode and my apartment gets robbed
Got a Thrustmaster?
The only 24 hour le mans I participated was Gran Turismo 4. Me and my brother swap each other for 2 hours in day and 6 hours at night. He started at 7pm and swapped with me at 1am while I finish the last 6 hours of the race. When my lil bro woke up, were 10 laps ahead from the second place and it's 30 minutes until finish.
I'm glad I did the whole 25 hour marathon run.
Those were the days.
-me: can only dream of having a wheel
-him: casually swaps wheels
180 euros for a fairly good wheel
Thrustmaster t150
i picked up second hand driving force gt online, great entry wheel for 50 pound..2 years heavy use, still going strong!
*rigs
Wheels aren't as expensive as you might think. You can get a G27 for 50€ if you're lucky.
Did you buy one?
- "Why do you have two rigs?"
- "Redundancy."
- "Come on, you don't need redun..."
Edit
Also, when your rig is so good that it breaks down when your virtual car breaks down.
"You were saying?"
This reminds me of Audi in the late 90s early 2000s doing a rear end swap on one of the LMP open cockpit cars.
ye he has another rig, and a richard mille on his wrist, probably has his own mechanic to fix rigs lmao. Great work tho!
Hes sponsored by richard mille so its free 🤩
F1 drivers' rig cost more than his rigs combined and possibly his rig cost less than what Jimmy has. But the fact he has two of them shows his dedication for something he may or may not like!
He said borrowed the spare from a neighbour just in case something went wrong during the event. His bizarre forward planning actually paid off.
@@Skasaha_ Cant imagine the inage of him knocking on his neighbor and begging for the rig had he not planned beforehand
hats off to him wow
>Nobody takes sim racing seriously

Pagenaud intentionally rammed Norris out of the race in another competition. Not so serious after all.

sBinatimus prime.
Now that’s a real racer, super competitive
you know you're rich if you swap rigs mid race
This is the most racecar thing to happen in eSports
Could you imagine this in a real race. Car pulls over and the driver hops out to get a new steering wheel or something.
they do it if a car has an technical issue
@@lorenzoabanes6351 not on the side of the track though, maybe in the pit lane
Hamilton did a steering wheel change during a pit stop once
kimi raikonnen screaming *STEERING WHEEL* in the background
Well, in Formula E before Gen 2 came along, car changes were actually a frequent thing (mostly due to the fact batteries couldn't last the entire race previously)
That was absolutely hilarious, yet impressive at the same time.
Jimmy's going to have to get rid of his bed to make room for the backup rig now ha ha!
thats a big flex if i've ever seen one
The pillow with the race track names. Awesome 👍
Simon Pagenaud: slowest in the Penske games, decently quick with a rig change.
I'm wondering if Simon still had any force feedback after the swap. When I've had wheel disconnect issues in iRacing, I never have any ffb after reconnecting unless I exit the server and rejoin.
I just watched the video after seeing this clip and he said he knew he wouldnt have FFB but that Montoya was ready to take over. Hour 5 video and interview is at 26 mins 37 seconds
This was also rf2 iirc.
The man with two rigs is a fool every day but one
This is the most iconic moment of lockdown simracing.
naahh him crashing into norris was his most iconic moment
Thats the crazy part about sim racing let alone you can have virtual mechanical failures you can also have real life mechanical and connection failures also
I remember for that and that is incredible
would you be able to put original videos in the description/somewhere? a few clips i've wanted to get the whole video of
Idk how he stayed so calm! I panic hard when my controller dies mid Apex Legends match and I have to look for the charging cable 😂
Visuals are unbelievable!
man is wearing one expensive ass watch
This was so amazing seeing it live, I couldn't believe my eyes :D
I think it worked because it was two Fanatec's with the same board or same era of firmware.
It would not work if you did this with low volume equipment.
The absolute madlad
I would do that when I get tired of the seat.
thats one hell of a simulator pit stop
Surely that shouldn't work though... When I forget to plug my wheel in and load rF2 and then plug my wheel in I have no force feedback...
He pitted as soon as he got back around to the pit lane and did a driver swap. It is likely he did not have any FFB but being able to limp back to the pits to swap for someone with a working setup whilst he sorted his setup out probably saved them a lot of time compared to towing back to the pit lane
@@samsanders8545 True
You can do this too once you live in a larger shed!

Newbie question: aren't his rigs a bit budget? Don't really good guys tend to have aluminium profile rigs? Thanks
Yeah he got fanatec gear and then uses a cheap playseat... But yeah swapping out a alu rig would be alot more difficult 😂
