    P.S. sorry about the lighting being funky! The cycle of the globes with the frame rate of the camera weren't in sync and so it showed up on the screen. I swear I wasn't having a rave party while filming. I will endeavour to do another bald cap video using balloon latex, and showing how I paint that, and I will ensure the image quality is clear and non-strobey.
    Struggles with bald caps - having used gafquat before, it made the hair clump together and it was too thick to properly comb out or flatten, so it left it quite textured (like the streaks) which showed through the bald cap. Gafquat might be my best bet, still, but I need to figure out how to apply it better - whether to dilute it with alcohol, water, or just leave it undiluted, which brush to use, whether to blow dry it after, and how much to apply.

    We just learned bald cap wraps in school. You can use gafquat or got2be glued and basically you have to wrap the hair around the head and blow dry it stiff. The bulk of the hair should be at the crown of the head as that's where heads are the most big. I hope that helps a bit! And if there is any weird bumps you can fill them in with a little bit of cotton.

    • @Freakmo
      @Freakmo  9 лет назад +7

      dasclone yeah I think that sounds like the way to go! I will try with gafqaut again and try out different brushes and combs to see which works best.

    • @dasclone
      @dasclone 9 лет назад +1

      yeah the only thing about gafquat it that when it dries it leaves the hair super ridgey :/ Most of the tv and film muas here use got to be glued. It's pretty much like gafquat but doesnt dry as hard :) I think your bald cap looks pretty good though!

      Wig caps are a little different as you need places to anchor the cap on and to anchor the wig on! Of course you want it to be flat but its not necessary for it to be pretty :)

    From what I learned in Makeup school you can slick the hair back with gafquat or hair spray and if the shape or texture is off you can put the polyfil used for quilts onto the slicked back hair to form the shape you want. Also instead of cutting the ear out you can use the acetone to melt the perfect hole for your ears.

    Gel long hair, section into 2, with an assistant wrap the sections around the head one over the other with the bulk building up to the crown.
    Wrap clingfilm tightly around this as in a wig wrap and trim off excess around edges. Use your fingers to push around any uneven areas under the clingfilm.
    Apply KY Jelly over the clingfilm and slide the cap over.
    You can also use an old thicker cap underneath or make the cap with at least 15 layers graduating out to 3 at the edges.

    the cool thing about PAX is that the adhesive forms a layer between the skin and the pigment/acrylic paint, so in using prosaid it automatically becomes skin-safe because it doesn't have direct contact with the skin. This is, however, assuming you mix everything REALLY well

    You can use gafquat to slick down the front and head of your hair. It's the substance that makes hairspray sticky and is alcohol free. As for the the pony tail part... the struggle is real! Great video! Cheers!

    • @Freakmo
      @Freakmo  9 лет назад

      Stefanie Kitsune haha thanks! I realised I didn't put the info in the description box about my struggles... :P gafquat kinda made all the hair clump together and got streaks of hair texture showing through the bald cap. I think I need a better brush/application method. Do you dilute your gafquat with water or alcohol, or apply it straight? And do you blow dry yours after?

    Water based hair gel to flatten the hair. Comb it through so it's flat to the head, and then at the nape of the neck, fold the hair so it's facing upwards but don't pull it up. Push the lengths into the head while patting it upwards and adding more gel as you go. Dry it off completely then add the bald cap. I always wrap the head in clingfilm before I add bald caps to make sure the hair is secure. Alternatively, you can wrap your hair round your head keeping it flat to your head and then wrap with clingfilm before applying the bald cap. Hope that helps....Good luck ;)

    when using bald caps, a good tip is to use a hair net bc it pulls back the hair, and i also highly recommend to use Redkin hair products such as Redkin Quick Dry 18. Also a great product is Bed Head Up Front, and all of these have helped a lot especially when i do my sfx makeup

  • @Beckypockers
    @Beckypockers 8 лет назад

    You do hair wrapping for under a bald cap, I was taught that method at Uni for SFXMUA and it's great! split the hair into two down the middle and wrap it to the opposite side following the neck, up behind the ear and onto the top of the head, use gel and water to keep the hair flat and use as little Bobby pins as possible, you can even take them out once the cap is on, then you repeats for the other side. Maybe there's tutorials for hair wrapping on RUclips? it's great for applying wigs too and you don't get lumps or bumps from braids or pin curls :)

    I have two questions I hope someone here can answer
    1) how long does this technique of a bald cap application last? Would you have to redo everyday or could it last a couple days
    2) how long does this process take start to finish
    I’m looking into wearing a bald cap for a week for a sociology project and I need it to be believable (which this is) but I need to know the logistics.

  • @wawtamalone

    Seeing a lot of people helping but I haven't seen a comment about wrapping the hair lol so yeah you can wrap your hair all around and either put gel or mousse in there and blow dry it. It should be even enough to not make your head shape look abnormal with the bald cap.

    In school for hiding hair under a bald cap you fold the hair over its self continuously till all the hair is up. Use a lot of hair spray and make sure the hair is all dry. Use as little body pins as you can to prevent bumps and tears

    To keep the hair clips/hair from showing through the bald cap apply a ruddy colored pax paint before the skins toned paint. The ruddy color with cancel out the darker parts of the hair that will show through and also give the skin tone more dimension

    • @Freakmo
      @Freakmo  9 лет назад

      Deanna Perrone thanks, that's a good idea on the ruddy pax! The texture of the hair shows through, and some of the outlines of the clips can be seen as well. I suppose I probably should have shown more of the back after it was painted, but it wasn't great haha. I might need to try using gafquat again.

  • @BeatrizLalka

    In movies they leave a low ponytail at the back and cover it with some hoodie oooooor you can use hair glue or hair gel to try to put your hair flat al arround your head, including the front and not only the back, that will position the volume all around. But it should never be higher that two fingers or it will look weird.

    Braid your hair down in cornrows in to hide your hair and then put an additional wig cap (dont pull it past your hairline like you do the bald cap) between your hair and the bald cap, so its a layer of smoothness before it gets to the bald cap .....but that would really only be best if you've got time and you plan to wear long term (at least 4 days IMO) so you didnt spend so much time on braids you just turn around and take out. I assume you could do a really cute braid style so when you're done with the bald cap you can still have some cute braids to wear

    • @GetItInProductions
      @GetItInProductions 7 лет назад

      BowtiedandBlue basically u should do this, make the bald cap and paint it, etc. and then, watch tutorials on faux beards. It's a grab kingpins technique. I imagine if you use that technique but on the head it would look incredibly real. You essentially use fake hair, glue it on sticking up, and then trim it short. It won't be easy, and you'll probably need a partner to help, but it would look very realistic when done right.

I'd imagine if you're really careful you could remove it and wear it again, but with the melting away of the edges with acetone, eventually it wouldn't look right. Ive been wanting to make my own bald cap for a haunt character, so being able to use the same cap several times would be extremely convenient.

      You could just wear it like that and make everyone's day a little happier.

    For a bald cap for longer hair try wrapping your hair around and put it in a hair net

    My friends and I are planning a Halloween group costume in which I will need to wear a bald cap. Can you use foundation to color the bald cap?

    Curious, Can you skip matching the skin tone of the Bald cap to your skin since its gonna be covered with white anyways or does it help with the white to stick or look brighter?

    Can you use the bald cap again after melting away the edges? I´m thinking about buying one...but if I can only use it once it makes no sense to me :)

    What kinda glue is that? Sweating will weaken the glue?

    Hey so does anyone know if this bald cap is strong enough to adhere a hair piece on? I'm trying to recreate a fade cut on a long haired person. This is an amazing first step as it fully covers the natural hair and allows a seamless blend with the skin. But would it be too weak to withstand a hair piece glued on top?

      ScarredAngel7 there's not enough coverage for a clear cap. it would be darker than your skin since it's clear and it would show the hair

    Also could you use concealer and/or foundation on instead of paints to color the bald cap?
