Just different usage cases. I just enjoy the vertical integration between my devices and the ecosystem.. also, when my klutz self breaks something when i'm overseas or in another state for work - I can generally get timely replacements/repairs in person.
I have android as well, but it just feels...lacking once you get used to the integration across devices.. and do not get me started on wearables.. I tried ~10 "non iOS" watches this year and each one had a major trade off that was a deal breaker - slow, bad battery life, almost no app support, etc... nothing else can just match the ecosystem that's created, and it just works.. and generally works well.

My wife got me a Sony Walkman MP3 player that I used regularly for more than a year. But it required a Windows machine to transfer music and videos to it.
Once I was back on the Mac again and got an iPhone I find using that Sony MP3 player just too cumbersome. My iPhone does everything the Sony used to do and so much more, so much more easily.
I was impressed that I could download a bunch of songs from RUclips by the Disneyland Space Stage band from the summer of 1981, Halyx, convert them to MP3s, import them into iTunes and create a playlist with the songs and have that playlist show up in the Music app on my phone just a few minutes later. Magic!
Of course ever since June my iPhone doesn't connect to Wi-Fi anymore. In Settings I tell it which Wi-Fi signal to connect to and it says it's connected, but the status at the top of the screen only shows half-strength LTE. All the time. News says no connection. I can download podcasts and listen to them but I cannot browse new podcasts, I can download and read books, but I cannot browse new books. I cannot play games, no connection. Mail and Safari work. I can watch streaming TV but not RUclips videos. Some of my banking and credit card apps connect, some of them don't. Weather apps work, Shazam and Siri work, as do iOS upgrades. App download is a sometimes thing and the App Store won't connect.
I upgraded to iOS 14, no change. I reset Network Settings. Twice. No change.
I'm on an Apple Support forum about this, apparently there are quite a lot of us with this problem, older phones and newer phones. Apple Support keeps suggesting using cellular data, but that's what I'm doing. The phone used to show full strength 4G most of the time, dropping to LTE in more remote locations. Now it's LTE all the time and not a good data signal.
I'm missing the Apple Ecosystem as far as my iPhone is concerned.

No - not "Locked In" (a much underrated album from Wishbone Ash in '75, btw) so much as absolutely eyes-wide-open wanting a secure system to use, including apps that only come from a "safe" store, easy-to-use secure things like passwords all across different ways to get to everything from banks to entertainment, easy switching from airdrop, and a whole system that is regularly updated (almost by itself) with the very latest security features, even if some of my things are 6 or 7 years old.
Criticism likely from those who are jealous!

The thing with Apple is that it is one of the only tech companies on the planet that actually provides a useful set of interconnected utilities with their devices. To get a level of integration close to it you have to be very up to date with tech trends and what each company is doing, and even then you probably have to run betas to get most of the useful features. To get a matching level is currently impossible. People who appreciate and use the Apple suite of products in concert are not locked into anything, they just have no other options in the market that come close to what Apple offers.

Intelligent people wouldn't buy into Apple if they knew full well they were being locked into it forever. They would, however, buy into Apple if they wanted the feature set and couldn't get it any other way

I'm trying to figure out how to tether more quickly between apple devices. Do you mean via bluetooth? When I tether my iPad to my iPhone, I still have to connect the iPad to the network emitted by the iPhone and enter the password. Is there a better way?

@@jd-py5nm why "agreed but"? Seems like we both understand that there are plenty of reasons why people might need or even want mixed environments. I wouldn't go fully apple even IF I could. One thing I noticed is how well Apple actually uses Bluetooth. I recently got the Powerbeats (current version) with the Apple H1 chip and it connects over Bluetooth to my iPhone 12 and 10.5" iPad Pro extremely easily, and maintains its connection over Bluetooth in a very stable fashion.

The funny thing is that people fully in the Apple ecosystem believe only Apple can do these things. Things that Apple announce as amazing new features in their phones sometimes have existed in Android for a year or more, as an a example. All that being said I Have and iPad Pro and it’s the most amazing piece of hardware I’ve ever owned, and now I’m side-eyeing an Apple Watch… that’s how it starts.

Usually I like Rene's video commentaries, but this one runs counter to my experience with a HomePod Mini which I bought two days ago and which I am planning to return. I now call it the LEB, for Little Evil Ball, and my experience with it was frustrating to the point of maddening, exasperating, and galling. Basically all I wanted was to use it as a simple external speaker for my iMac, but what I got instead was an (admittedly) attractive device that was just a pain in the ass to configure (starting, first, with having to upgrade my iPhone 8 to iOS 14.3, then having to download and then upgrade the Home app)... The wifi in my home office is poor, which resulted in grossly unacceptable latency when I tried to play music, and even AirPlay has latency issues for me, despite my having an up-to-date iMac with Big Sur on it and the Little Evil Ball sitting about a foot away from the computer. I was continually plagued with line drops that caused the computer to switch to its (so-so) internal speakers... On several occasions the LEB started playing random music uncommanded by me from my music library that defied my efforts to shut it off, you can't just plug the damn thing into the back of the Mac and select it in the Sound Preferences Panel as you would an ordinary set of speakers... after spending a couple hours basically wrestling the ball to the ground and getting it to play somewhat reliably I breathed a sigh of relief and was actually impressed with the quality of the sound, which really is superior considering its diminutive size, and I thought maybe I was over the hump. Instead, the next morning, upon trying to play a nice Joyce Cooling tune, I saw that the device was no longer accessible. Why? Who the hell knows! Back to the internet I go for more troubleshooting, and what I found was I'd have to delete the ball from the Home app and configure it all over again. Well NO THANK YOU. Why would I subject myself on an ongoing basis to the torture of Apple's opaque and capricious connectivity protocols - which are far far removed from the milk-and-honey bliss promised on Apple's web site and by Mac-centric commentators on RUclips - when I can go out and get somewhat less elegant but truly reliable hardwired speakers that give me what I want, which I don't consider unreasonable -- BETTER SOUND than the internal speakers! That's all I want. Is that asking so much Apple? I know you're a 2 trillion dollar market cap colossus but really, what the hell were you thinking when you made this demonic little ball impossible to just frickin' PLUG IN THE BACK OF THE COMPUTER? So you can see why listening to Rene wax rhapsodic about the immaculate seamlessness of Apple's ecosystem is, for me, more than a little grating. Apple, for all its strengths, is sometimes infatuated with technology for technology's sake, and has lately been far less effective than it used to be at hiding the complexity of its gadgets and making them "just work". The HomePod Mini DIDN'T "just work" for me. It delivered an inferior, which is to say crappy, experience for this customer -- so I am returning it.

I’ve slowly lost pieces of the ecosystem over the past few years. A MBP that was just too old, Apple TV that’s too old, Apple Watch killed, AirPods killed in the wash. Down to just an iPhone, and looking to replace the rest and re-realizing just how much I’m missing out on and how much I miss of everything working together so well.

Hey I’d like to suggest two little things to you. First is, some of your Patreon sponsor‘s names at the end the video are always a little cut out because of the channel banner and suggested videos. Secondly, when you scroll down a website in a video, for it to be less choppy, you could either, if it’s not a website with any significant animations, save it as a format you can insert in FCP (considering you use that) and there then control the panning much better; or in the case of an website like a lot of Apple’s, use the keyboard to scroll down, instead of a trackpad or mouse.
