Borahae! I am a singer/songwriter/producer that rediscovered my passion for music during the pandemic after hearing BTS. A wild musical journey ensued that reunited 2 childhood friends (me & Lucas). She's just a different level of artist compared to anyone else, she always looks like she's having fun, never takes herself serious, she did another 5 songs in this set, MEMORY, SHE USED TO BE MINE, HOME, SOMEONE LIKE YOU and the one from MISS SIAGON
For this Stages Session, Mori sang 5 Broadway songs. She Used To Be Mine from The Waitress, Memory from Cats, Someone Like You from Jekyll and Hyde, Home from The Wiz and Defying Gravity from Wicked.
She Used To Be Mine was very emotional but my favorite is Memory because she sang it so perfectly.

I've been saying this for over 2 years now since she turned 25 years old: *She is the best contemporary female vocalist of this new generation.* I can argue this from several angles, but the most important reason why I regard her so highly is her otherworldly *TONE.* I study the *old school* Bel Canto system of singing (emphasis on 'old school' because the new Bel Canto system is subpar, corrupted by "modern" voice teachers), and Morissette is that *RARE* singer that possesses *"chiaroscuro"* (a Bel Canto terminology which means, a voice with that perfect blend of brightness, yet having depth, warmth and richness to her voice). By contrast, the majority of vocalists today have a thin, piercing, whiny tone, most evident when singing in the upper range - a product of today's subpar vocal training. Morissette is also that *RARE* vocalist with *"squillo"* (another Bel Canto term, meaning *overtones.* Mori's voice has special overtones). By contrast, the majority of singers today have plain hollow-sounding tones, especially in the mid to upper range. Hollow, as in, a lack of core to their voice - a product of today's subpar vocal training. Thank God for a Morissette Amon! One can best hear the quality of her tone when singing in this genre, where she isn't adding her usual levels of vocal compression and distortions. You can really hear how gorgeous her tone is.

I like that you didn't skip the first part where she was talking, so viewers would see how articulate and warm and humble Mori is. She is always young at heart, adorable, friendly. And then she transforms into a beast when performing. She just grabs our attention, all throughout her performances, from start to finish, because we don't wanna miss every nuance, every squeak, every surprise she has in store for us. And, yes, I agree with you, we haven't seen anyone like Mori who can do that kind of belting, rich, full, sustained, and breathtaking. In that finale part, I think I also held my breath unconsciously while in awe, my jaw dropped, while she held those long belting notes. Superb! Amazing! 🥰

Check out her J Lo Medley where she sing while doing lots of choreo too in 10 mins straight. In that performance you can tell that she's also really good in dancing. Her stamina is ridiculous!
Great reaction as usual guys.....Broadway is certainly in Morissette's sweet spot. I left a link to another song from this B'way session...it's called Someone Like You from Jekyll and Hyde. It is the sleeper song and an absolutely stunning version. Morissette is a wonderful actress and her connection to the 'event' of the song is wonderful. Enjoy!!!
