Amen! I'm a blacksmith down in South Carolina (three rivers forge) and I'm constantly amazed at how little people know today. It's not just about our history as a nation, but the simple ability to see the potential in something and turn a raw material into something better. Folks think you buy some gadget at a store or you do without. They never stop to think that they could whittle it out of a tree branch in their backyard.
We've given so much away, thinking that we're better off because we can buy a cheap import from china or pakistan. Aside from the social impact caused by outsourcing our creation of simple tools, we lose the ability to visualize the building of simple tools. That's detrimental to the society on a scale that I don't think we really comprehend.
America, at that time, was a bastion of wonder that the whole world looked to. Today.... not so much. And there's a reason for that which we should spend some serious brain-power considering.

I'm with you 100% I'm setting up a old line shaft machine shop myself still hunting for bits and pieces but I also build foundry patterns . One of the best ways to understand how they did it back in the days is to do it the way they did . You'll see just how clever they were.

This answered where this Greenfield region played in the history of American manufacturers Mine s here in California Southern California in particular where the aircraft industry was once made great. Tap and Die tool makers all make great sense, that you for this video and in fact this museum. We love Kennametal Cutting Tools 1938 later started in your region along the river.

    Hello.
After finding your channel yesterday, i have greatly enjoyed the content about machining. So when i watched this video i noticed a very peculiar little milling machine at the 2:40 mark and have been wondering if i could by any chance get a name of the machine or any info related to it.
I would greatly appreciate any help i can get.
