One of our police departments just retired a beautiful German Shepherd after 8 years of service and threw him a huge retirement party before he went to his forever home with his ex police partner. It was wonderful! My parents bred GS for the department here in SA and they were truly great to the dogs whether they made the cut or not. Im not a fan of the PoPo but when it comes to animals in their care I can't fault them.

The general public and especially the criminal element have zero knowledge of what these dogs learn and instinctually know. Also how important and necessary they are to their handlers and respective departments. Very NICE puppy

(Cuz the Down's Syndrome kids likely dont GRASP the danger of running into burning buildings. THATS why!!!!) I saw a video last night of 5 wolves ripping apart a friendly German Shepard last night. He was chained up and walked right to the end of his chain to say hi. I was so HORRIFIED and angry at what I saw that I couldn't sleep for hours. Its gonna stick with me forever. I am actually ANGRY crap like that gets in my feed btw.

Sadly, German Shepherds no longer become police dogs, due to the many health problems..mostly it is Belgian breeds that are trained to be these, because they do not have these severe back and hip problems.

He did warn me that he wouldn't have a long life due to his size, but he lived 2 full years past his life expectancy. He was like having a horse inside my house and he destroyed my sofas, but I didn't care. He was a gentle giant, and he was so good with our children. I miss him terribly.
