One of our police departments just retired a beautiful German Shepherd after 8 years of service and threw him a huge retirement party before he went to his forever home with his ex police partner. Im not a fan of the PoPo but when it comes to animals in their care I can't fault them.

I wish the pic of him on your shoulders was longer to rest see his size. They're wonderful dogs. We have a 5K here on Palm Springs every year for Ike who was lost whole on duty and the money goes to the PD for the dogs. They're such a big part of the force and appreciated. Thank you.
Sadly, German Shepherds no longer become police dogs, due to the many health problems..mostly it is Belgian breeds that are trained to be these, because they do not have these severe back and hip problems.
@@SusanKay- Yes, I truly believe that we will see our beloved dogs again in Heaven. My chocolate lab was 165 pounds. I was worried that he was overweight, but my DVM reassured me that he wasn't. He did warn me that he wouldn't have a long life due to his size, but he lived 2 full years past his life expectancy. He was like having a horse inside my house and he destroyed my sofas, but I didn't care. He was a gentle giant, and he was so good with our children. I miss him terribly.
He is so cute! I love his ears and how could you get upset with him? He just melted my heart. I am not able to have a dog, so I am sure that you will take great care of him. He's pure sunshine.
