    I'm so glad I came across your channel!! Your explanations are so clear and I really appreciate your pie chart visuals - this is so helpful. I've just started this piece and now feel much better about approaching this particular bar - and the grace notes/trills - as brilliantly taught in your other Chopin Waltz in A minor video. I like that you demonstrate a variety of options then encourage players to experiment and see what works for them. As a learner, sometimes its tricky to decide on whats the "best way" to do things - especially when there is such a wealth of information - you have given me the confidence to explore the options and decide for myself. Thank You so much - very much appreciated.

    Been working on this piece for about 10 days, and I'm so close to getting it to a decent tempo! Really struggling with the rhythm on this measure, I've been using the metronome to help, but still every time I play through and roll into the next measure the beat seems off and I have to slow down or speed up. Any advice on using the metronome for this measure?

    • @OlympiaPiano
      @OlympiaPiano  Год назад

      First of all, thanks for watching and reaching out. I have a couple of ideas for you, try them out and see if they work. It is ok to take a little extra time in this measure because of the flourish but you don't want to take too much time. If you are working with the metronome some strategies I would suggest are: 1) play beat 1 stop on beat 2 2) similarly (with the metronome on) start on beat 2 and stop on beat 3--if you cant get all of the notes in analyze where it gets slow (usually it is when the thumb crosses under. 3) then try all together. To get those crossovers quickly take a look at your wrist and make sure it is not too low because the thumb needs lots of space to fold under. Please let me know if any of these help!

    I was taught to use 2 4 then thumb ( thumb under at a 4 th not thumb under at a 4 th as you did…) I use this principle when teaching Arpeggios

    • @OlympiaPiano
      @OlympiaPiano  2 года назад

      Sure 2 & 4 can work as well. It really all depends on how it feels for each individual person's hand.

    Any way to count these notes? I get how to count the triplet and the dotted quarter but what is the in the middle? I'm guessing there's no real way to count this one. What is it called?

    • @OlympiaPiano
      @OlympiaPiano  2 года назад

      Great question and thanks for writing. The group with the 5 is called a quintuplet. The way I usually practice this with a student is first by just counting aloud with a metronome maybe set around 50 to the quarter note. Say the subdivisions aloud with the beats: 123, 12345, 1234. Then try to play the subdivisions just with the fingers you are going to use on a flat surface (not the piano yet) while saying it aloud and make sure to say all 4 subdivisions on beat 3 even though you are only going to play subdivision 1 & 4. Finally try on the keyboard, still saying the subdivisions aloud, but maybe slow the metronome down to 40 to the quarter then move it up. Hopefully this all makes sense and helps you out. Thanks for watching my channel, much appreciated.

    Dans ce cas d'arpeges Mi majeur et pour jouer fluide et rapide, il faut éviter la technique du passage du pouce mais garder un déplacement horizontal de la main et effectuer un saut. ( You must do some jump and not practice the thumb under hand)

    Look at this. Minutes 7.40

      merci pour regarder ma video. Je ne suggeste pas faire la technique avec les angles de main a 7:40 dans votre video, simplement, plier la pouce doucement tandis qu'aller a la Mi majeur suivante. C'est vrai que la main devoir va vitement

    I have been practicing this piece for months and still have a problem with this measure. My thumb doesn’t seem to reach the E in time and sometimes would hit the D instead because my hands are small and can’t stretch enough. I’m thinking of giving up on this piece it’s starting to frustrate me!☹️

    • @OlympiaPiano
      @OlympiaPiano  2 года назад +1

      I am sorry that this is giving you trouble, that must be so frustrating! Perhaps for you, try fingers 1- 2-4 instead of 1-2-3 for the E G# B and really stand up on that finger 4 so your thumb can get under. Make sure just because your hands are small that your wrist doesn't get too low. And remember this measure is kind of free so although you want to respect the rhythm it doesn't have to be as strict as some other composers. Please let me know if this suggestion works!

      @@OlympiaPiano Hi Olympia, thank you so much for your advice about the wrist. It seems that because my wrist got too low I wasn’t able to move the thumb fast enough. I also realized that I unconsciously raise my shoulders which was not helping. Now I can play this measure at 110 bpm!

    Hi............I'm actually HIGHLY SURPRISED(to say the least) that you did NOT go for the 'block chord fingering'. Cause THAT'S way more convenient that this 'Junior-High' 'tumb-under' nonsense. MY advice: SKIP THE TUMBS-UNDER and instead: 'JUMP' to the 2 and 3. Just try that one out: I can guarantee you: IT FEELS SO MUCH MORE MATURE AND CONTROLED!!
