This is amazing, I've been revising looking through textbooks for so long and I watch this 15 minute video and boom, it all makes sense! This has been a great help, thanks so much for taking the time to make these. Let's hope I do well in this exam now!
I cannot put into words on how grateful I am towards the sheer amount of content and effort you put towards these videos. I was truly panicking for this exam, as books and other various notes just wouldn't adhere/or make any sense to me! Thank god I found this video! Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge!!!!
I have been struggling with EU law for a while, but your video's have been so incredibly helpful! It all makes sense now, thank you for taking the time to make these videos on FMOG, you literally have saved my life!
Your videos are literally saving my life. Unfortunately, our lecturer is quite dry on what I consider to be an interesting topic. You are much easier to follow. Thank you for your marvellous work.
This is really awesome. I have watch this 15 mins video and the outcome is much much greater then a 55 mins lecture. It is easy to understand and so direct, really thanks for making this video.
Great lecture and thank you for taking the time to explain thing's so simply and clearly without using fancy words . You have a new subscriber . It is very easy to understand and pleasant to listen to you speak. Much BETTER than any lecture I have attended . I urge you to continue making more videos . Thanks again !
This is fantastic! So simple to understand, thanks a bunch! Really far more simpler than I thought it would be and a lot better than the explanations we got at lectures :)
Hey Marcus thanks for the shout out!!! I have exams coming up so I am going to pick the topics that you have kindly broken down as we don't have much time left!!! :)
Thank you so much for the video, I have the exam tomorrow so hoping I will pass it. Come to Dubai to be our lecturer in MDX University will be great to have you here.
Thank you so much! Watched your video and tomorrow's the exam. You simplified and managed to breakdown everything so easily. Fingers crossed, hope to ace tomorrow's paper.
Ha!...That's bananas in itself ...definitely going in the book of random cases! Thank you for these videos, you have an amazing ability to simplify things and help our understanding, I wish you'd come and teach at our uni!!
Man, i have no words! Amazing videos. Been watching your videos for some time. The best explanation ever!! Thank you for such work you do. Really appriciate. Take care and continue your amazing vidoes
Thank you Marcus, your videos are brilliant. I have sent your links on to fellow students as I feel as though I now have an upper hand on exams and wanted to share the source!!
Any revision tips will also be welcome, by the way I passed my EU law coursework 75% yay!!! Your video helped thanks :) I just need to try and absorb all this info somehow for the exams....it is a painstakingly slow process.....I need to work faster!
Both. A banana (the yellow thing you peel and eat) is undoubtedly a fruit (containing the seeds of the plant: see 'Is a tomato a fruit or a vegetable?), though since commercially grown banana plants are sterile, the seeds are reduced to little specks. The banana plant is called a 'banana tree' in popular use, but it's technically regarded as a herbaceous plant (or 'herb'), not a tree, because the stem does not contain true woody tissue. //OXFORD Dictionary Thanks for the video!
Love your videos. They help me a lot in my European law study. Another relevant subject to study is the freedom of movement, services, and establishment in relation to third country nationals. I was hoping that you could provide video on that matter. Thank you for considering my request!
Mr. Cleaver thank you so very much for making this so simple. I mean I was having a hard time just wrapping my head around this until now. The EU's reasoning sounded very much like those of Lord Denning's view on things. Re: the banana is not a fruit.
Very helpful lectures Marcus. I have my finals this month and I really appreciate the time you've taken to explain things which can often be convoluted and boring in Uni lectures. Thank you.
Hi, I have watched a few of your vidoes and I love the way you explain things. You would be an amazing teacher please carry on making videos for us. 😊Taeeba
Thank you so much for these courses you literally saved my life:D I'm a student who is strugglig in French university to understand all of these things and concepts in french now it makes a lot more sense:D I'm totally going to pass this exams thanks to you. Keep up the good work:D
Would bananas in the Comm v Italy case be a breach of Article 101(2), they might not be similar to fruit but are undoubtedly in competition? There is a big market for videos of this type on youtube, if you keep producing similar content id expect the channel to grow very quickly.
+Ross Canning I should think there is a better chance of success under competition law as they would both seem to be in the relevant market. Thanks for the comment, it's a bit of a niche audience but as long as it is of some use to law students that is the main thing.
I know this video was a few years ago, honestly it is great. I am confused on a problem question I found in a textbook. It asks to advise whether Germany's actions comply with EU free movement of goods. What they have done is introduced big taxation on meat made with chemicals and smaller taxation on what they deem 'natural' meat. Producers of the meat have argued that the chemicals are sometimes needed to preserve the meat . Would art 110 govern this? It being discriminatory taxation on similar products?
Thank you Marcus - again! For simplifying a complex topic! Clear and understanding. Erm banana, 🍌 fruit! 🤣... I like how they classed it as seeds, then ALL fruits are seeds as they grow from seeds! Thanks again!!
Hi Marcus Firstly, THANKYOUUUUU. You saved my brain from frazzling on this subject. Big respect for the time and energy you put to these videos, you are a rockstar Marcus!! Secondly, I am slightly confused. Does article 36 provide exemptions for article 30, or only article 34? Thanks :)
characteristically great video; can i ask Marcus why Article 30 adds the rider: "this prohibition shall also apply to customs duties of a fiscal nature"... are customs duties not inherently fiscal... any clarity appreciated :) ps bananas are undoubtedly fruits (containing seeds) but interestingly 184/85 looked to the organoleptic (!!!) and water content of the banana to distinguish it from Italian table fruits such as the pear; haha
I honestly wish I had a good answer for you but I truly don't! My only guess is that it means the EU covers all bases and ensures countries don't take the goods themselves as a form of customs duty but you are quite right that customs duties are fiscal in nature across the globe.
Hello Marcus. Could you please, explain article 114 TFEU. I have some trouble of understanding it. And a specific question I have is, how is EU regulatory competence under Article 114 TFEU limited? And to what extent is the Court of Justice capable of constraining the exercise of EU legislative powers? Please, I would so appreciate if you could make a video lecture of this topic. Kind regards Sara
Thanks so much for this video giving such a clear insight into this area! Pls make such videos for the other topics as well- i.e. free movt of persons, etc. I'm currently working on this essay question: ‘There can be no doubt that both article 30 TFEU and article 110 TFEU are absolutely essential for securing the free movement of goods. However, the Court of Justice has pushed the prohibitions in these two articles too far by limiting the ability of Member States to adopt their own fiscal measures to a much greater extent than is necessary. The Court must radically change its approach.’ Critically discuss this statement with reference to decided cases and academic opinion. And was wondering if you had any suggestions on how it should be approached and any tips on how to structure the essay? Thanks so much in advance! :) P.S. Bananas are both a fruit and a herb technically haha.
Hi Jolene, thanks for the like and for subscribing! You should definitely check out some of the other videos on my channel as I hope they may help you with this essay and other topics too! For your essay I would definitely start with a very brief explanation of both articles but then get into the case law pretty early and consider the decisions both from the viewpoint of free movement in the EU AND how member states who want to set their own rules might react to the same judgment. At the end of each case come to a conclusion about whether the court has struck a good balance between free movement and state interests. For your general conclusion at the end think about the general advantages of free movement of goods and whether these advantages are worth member states giving up some of their sovereignty. For some extra marks also think about Brexit (see my vid!) and whether this will be good for the British economy. Will Britain get the 'best of both worlds' and have free movement of goods AND retain its sovereignty or will it end up still subject to EU law but without a voice at the table?
Hi marcuscleaver, thanks so much for the prompt and detailed response! That's definitely very useful- thanks! I will definitely check out your other EU videos to facilitate in my studies. May I ask if you do videos on Tort, Land and Equity and Trusts Law as well? (if you don't you should consider doing those as well!) :)
Thank you so much-these videos are amazing. I was wondering if it is still seen as discriminatory if it favours one member state over another (but not the domestic state)?
Thanks for these vids they are really helpful. Bananas are scientifically berries, true fruit, the Musa cavendishii banana we eat is a seedless cloned mutation of the true wild form. However, strawberries are not berries but swollen receptacles holding the seeds externally, they are also termed pseudocarp or 'false fruit'. The EU must have got some rare experts indeed to make out that a seedless true fruit was in fact a seed but justice prevailed, that was possibly the main point.
BLESS YOUR SOUL MAN GOD KNOWS HOW MANY HELPLESS LIVES YOU HAVE SAVED BEFORE EXAM PERIODS, INCLUDING MINE - THANK YOU MARCUS!
your videos are better than lectures. thanks
This is amazing, I've been revising looking through textbooks for so long and I watch this 15 minute video and boom, it all makes sense! This has been a great help, thanks so much for taking the time to make these. Let's hope I do well in this exam now!

hey great video, just wondering does 'at the point of entry' mean at the border of the respective MS?
Thank you so much-these videos are amazing. I was wondering if it is still seen as discriminatory if it favours one member state over another (but not the domestic state)?
Thank you so much, this video is greatly appreciated ...You were clear and precise!!! PS. I have subscribed
Thank you so much!! :D
Hey, will you be able to make a video about services and establishments?
I don't know where the people came from who dislikes your videos.
No accounting for taste ;)
thank you so much this has really helped me
Yay! Thanks Ella :)
