CBS, pls do some research before publishing: Tule elk were in the area pre-1800s, and vast numbers were extirpated by the 19th century. So, they were RE- introduced to a place they previously lived, in the 1970s.
Once the National Seashore was authorized, there was never an intention to have the ranches stay permanently. Dozens of public documents show these negotiations. The ranches pay below-market prices significantly subsidized by taxpayers. Several are consistently in violation of lease agreements or water quality laws.

1:38 funny how this report fails to include the fact that Tule Elk are found only in Californian and were brought BACK to Point Reyes area after being nearly driven to extinction in the 1800's by the arrival cattle ranches and unrestricted hunting by colonizers. Seems like that info is kinda important to the context of this situation, especially if Ramos is going to stress that the ranches have been there for over a hundred years.

Why should taxpayers have to prop up their businesses and worse it's on our public land?
