Unfortunately alot of Rail Trails go through dicey areas in every city. I've been surrounded by a group of kids once that stated they were going to "F" with me and only saved when a large running group came up the trail moments later and the oldest kid shook his head to the other kids to call it off. I once had a lady randomly yell that she was going to spit in my face as I rode by, etc... Kudos to you for riding in the cold. Once it gets below 40 I switch to hiking as I find the cold just penetrates my feet too much biking no matter how I bundle up.

The Quarry is gone, they filled it entirely in. Long epic rides through Lake Monroe, and Brown County are still there. Use to deliver papers to the main characters house as a kid on Lincoln. Grew up there, that use to be a nasty old run down rail yard and old run down rust belt brick buildings with most of the windows busted out from kids like me throwing rock, haha. Now it's swank and nice, farmer's markets, over priced apartments, other than the over priced apartments, most of the progress seems nicer. Good place for cycling though.

I live in a city of 100,000 residents with no bike paths, only a white line separating bikes from car traffic. In other words, virtually no protection at all. I am not suggesting that the gentleman was in anyway culpable for the loonie lady's frostbitten toes nor could he balance her brain chemistry or heal her psychic lessions. The camera lens setting in the GoPro also makes things look a bit faster but it’s mainly due to the stabilization.

That's because many times we are. I've been an avid cyclist since the 1970s and rode my first bike in the late 1950's, so I speak with quite a bit of experience. I applaud the fact that Midwest Meanderer is riding on bikes trails, something I almost exclusively do myself. The one I ride on is an old railroad bed and it intersects several local roadways, some of them major connectors. Cyclists (and pedestrians) in my area are under the mistaken impression that they have the right-of-way and expect cars to stop for THEM. That's only the case if they are already in the crosswalk when a car approaches, then the car has to yield. Others than that, they are required by law to give way to cars and only enter the crosswalk after they pass. However, cyclists, especially those who don't want to unclip, routinely ignore the stop signs and expect cars to let them pass. In my state, bikes are considered motor vehicles and have to comply with all traffic laws. Can you imagine every motorist ignoring stop signs like this RUclipsr did? While most of us have been guilty of not coming to a full stop at a stop sign, few of us just blow through stop signs. As a police officer, I gave more than one citation to a dumbfounded cyclist who ignored the traffic laws. Believe it or not, I once wrote a ticket to a cyclist after a head on collision with another cyclist because he was going the wrong way on a divided highway. I'm not a safety zealot but c'mon!
