Folks, i am not from chicago , but i have visited and i have worked there, and with the deep dish places like Bartolis, Giordanos, pizzaria unos,,Malnatis, Nonnas, and many other great places, you would have to admit that to open a deep dish pizza place to compete with those would be crazy. They have found a little niche' in the marketplace for a pizza bowl/upside down pizza, so i give them credit and they are making an honest living. I do not live there and i know it is not a deep dish pizza, but it does look tasty, so let's give them some credit.

After growing up in Chicago I can tell you that this place is #1 in my book. I have taken many people there and everyone agrees that it’s the best pizza joint in Chicago. Be prepared to wait as there is always a line to get it.
it's definitely a bolognese sauce, not your typical pizza sauce. I used to make these for myself at a Rosati's I worked, and I always preferred them with the meat sauce vs. the pizza sauce. just gave it more substance, and yeah, it tasted more like a pasta dish than a pizza after it was baked.

Maybe you could do meatballs instead, however I would personally think that the mushroom taste would be almost entirely nonexistent as it's covered in a very flavorful sauce.
Great recipe, the 1 thing I do is use crimini/baby bella mushrooms which have a more beefy flavor & they are only smaller portebella mushrooms but a little more costly than button mushrooms

I've eaten here. The dough is not bland at all. The entire bowl I ordered was delicious, and yes you order whatever ingredients you want. It's my favorite pizza, no matter what it's called. It's truly a taste people should try.
