Regarding the way it has been filmed thought 101 film wasn’t a full and only concert film, it’s a documentary around DM and fans. Filmed by D.A. Pennebaker famous for films like Monterey Pop, Ziggy Stardust, Don’t look back and many others rock films… he said yes but he didn’t knew DM at that time and an electronic music band was for him a novelty… Some fans had been selected to follow the group on the US part of the tour and were film during the trip along this US tour until the final concert at Rose Bowl Pasadena the reason why you will not see only images from the final show but from various locations and with other kind of film scenes often with those fans. Curiously did they film the whole final show ? I don’t think but they lost lots of non used tape. We have the whole final show recorded audio but not in video… You will not can see all the tracks in video they didn’t exist and some are not complete…
This is kinda sad to be honest!! All that DM history missing is just sacrilege!! 😢
Penneberger did not filmed the whole concert the Footage is Editet because if you look closly you will see that sometimes the Band plays in a Indoor Venue and sometimes at the Rose Bowl.
When Alan Wilder was in the band, they were always better live than on album. He just knew how it had to sound live on stage. Since he left, the sound on the stage changed dramatically, today I find that the studio versions of the songs almost always sound better than the live versions. But back then, it was different.

I think to be fair. Most singers lose their flair after about 30. Then only a select few are still good after 50. Theres probably only a *few* extremely good singers aged 70+

Strange Love is such a great tune, it’s always a crowd pleaser, Dave’s voice is fantastic, unfortunately I’m not a fan of the way he sings live these days, he always sounds very harsh and more nasally. I saw the masses tour, the world violation tour and the devotional tour a couple of times which just kept getting better, they didn’t tour ultra because they were changing there live set up after Alan Wilder’s departure 😭 I saw them twice more after that, the singles tour and the last tour spirit. The best tour was devotional without doubt.
Its going to be an interesting journey for me to see/hear all this. This is the reason im doing these in order now. Its lovely to see the progression ya know!?

101 was legend and those live recordings became the reference go-to tracks of many radio DJs vs DM's album versions.
One thing to note when reacting to the Violator album is that there are mini songs in between (interludes) I’ve always thought that they’ve made the album so unique, there’s playlists that include it as well!

My cousin who was 15 at the time Was at that show and I was So jealous at 14 but I got to go see them 2 years later on the Violator tour at dodger stadium for my first show ever. 1st date too 2 weeks after I got my driver license.

101 is a documentary so the full concert is not available as there are few songs that are just audio PS As far as I know A Question of Time Shake The Disease Nothing and Black Celebration do not have full videos
2nd PS 😂 There were around 70K People at the Rose Bowl I remember it as the first Stadium concert for a pop group but I could be wrong
Wasnt first stadium for pop group,but it was the largest sold out crowd for one i think..only the Rolling Stones and someone else ever sold out the Rose Bowl at that time. i came here to say thing as you about it being a documentary ..thats why i wasnt fully on board for him to react to ever song from this since the videos are clips from the documentary and not always full performances.
And they lost lost of cuts scenes and tapes ! Crazy unbelievable but true ! How many different released editions for 101 film we have i think three !? A couple of songs films have been added since the first edition maybe they will found the rest in about 20 years or more or never ? 😅 I think to the World Violation Tour too ! It had been filmed an entire show but not by the band ! Los Angeles 4th august 1990, a stadium where the stadium crew used to film the shows for the projections screens. The band don’t want to use that recording because it’s like a soundboard but so many fans would be happy to see it ! They only have upload excerpts on the official website… i don’t think they are always on the website anymore but available on RUclips
80,000 tickets sold in 4 hours. The only act to have filled the Rosebowl previously was the Rolling Stones
Im so glad i didn't skip these though! I would have definitely missed out! This has changed my perspective of the band as a whole! To actually put voices to faces is just a freakin amazing experience ya know!?
This is the version of Strangelove 88 (which was actually the version used on the Masses album). You reviewed the other version of Strangelove, which most people do, but it's a bit different than the version used for the concert and album.

@@SephPlays I very clearly posted when on the Never Let Me Down review that the version of Strangelove to review for the album was Strangelove 88 (which is a pretty boring video) rather than the basic version (filmed in Paris video). Another great reaction seph. They had over 60 thousand people at that one but. If you watch some of the live stuff at the rock am ring it makes that look small.
