- Nurse Lucy Letby has been found guilty of murdering seven babies on a neonatal unit, making her the UK's most prolific child serial killer in modern times.
The 33-year-old has also been convicted of trying to kill six other infants at the Countess of Chester Hospital between June 2015 and June 2016.
Letby deliberately injected babies with air, force fed others milk and poisoned two of the infants with insulin.
Letby was found not guilty of two counts of attempted murder and the jury could not reach verdicts on six charges of attempted murder.

I’m concerned with how they are focusing only on this woman though. The whole hospital’s management should be investigated. Of course what she did is awful but the managers lack of action should be charged as well
Nobody's only focusing on Letby. The BBC has done an extensive report showing the systematic management failures that allowed Letby to continue her killing, and several other papers like Sky News are reporting on widespread calls to investigate the hospital.
You right, but sadly mismanagement is not a crime but incompetency the family can sue the hospital but no criminal charges can be brought on the management.
They should be sent to jail for the rest of their life. That's terrible crimes.

@@draco2xx The information is available in articles, but I can summarise for you. Letby killed and attempted to kill babies by forced injections of insulin, milk, and air (including via the stomach), and assault (forcing tubes down the throat of babies).
It isn't often you see pure, unfettered evil in a person, but this is just mortifying. What would compel someone to murder newborn babies is beyond me
There'll always be people like this. Unfortunately, there will also be people like the hospital's management team, who could have prevented some of these babies from dying. Unless we also hold them accountable, it will never stop. It may be a rare occurrence, but it will happen again as we just don't learn.

But that sheet of every suspicious circumstance that she was present at had 25 in a row meaning beyond the ones she’s been found guilty of there are another possible 12 murders or attempted murders. It has been mentioned in other comments; I cannot fathom the evilness of this woman, moreover it's truly disgusting that the willful and deliberate ignorance, criminality and sheer audacity of the management! They should be held criminally responsible for the part they played in the murder of innocent children. This type of malpractice is happening in every hospital, drs surgery and other institutions up and down the country. It's well known. And unfortunately whenever a law abiding citizen raises concerns they are labelled, blamed, shamed, threatened and punished! I pray that each and every one of those managers are prosecuted and made an example of. My heart literally breaks for all the innocents involved. So utterly and needlessly tragic for many, especially the victims and their families 😢

What haunts me is the thought of how many other killer nurses are out there and allowed to go about their business because hospital management chooses their image over people's lives. this is Darlington Memorial in Durham County? 😢 Darlington is funded by a trust which may be exactly why you are getting nowhere, Darlington is known for literally it's charity & hospitality, an amazing hospital but not exempt from "anything or anywhere is possible"
you have come upon admins or higher ups that want no trouble, which also means with a trust funded hospital it will be difficult to find someone to help but never impossible, this hospital had already made a stink back in 2021 about the exact opposite where they were complaining of being abused by patients,that is a monumental problem, you need to go outside of the institutions board, that is still quite fresh & that also matters because no doubt they would see your complaint POSSIBLY as vengeful, you are basically asking the hospital admins to investigate themselves which is what when push comes to shove will happen, my first advice to you is to be careful, since you have gone to higher ups now they know that you believe something is happening & that can be dangerous now a days, let us be real about that, i would not take this concern to anyone else inside the hospital, i do not know if you are a worker or were/are a patient or when you began suspecting this nurse, obviously you have boiled it down to 1 & that is crucial, & brilliant, also you would have an insight of the people that you suspect were killed/murdered, very important & quite haunting, & i am sorry this is on your conscience, you are how heros are made, you need somebody that has no interest in the hospital or yourself, the hospital because as we know doctors, nurses are known to police officers simply because of crimes commited on a daily basis & police spend alot of time walking the halls of hospitals because of their own cases but if they are true to their oaths you should be able to locate 1 that will at least sit down & hear you out, you don't want an officer familiar so much with you because then the hospital could say the police are choosing sides because you knew them beforehand, an arguement about something like that could get a case thrown out of court & you are back to square 1 with far less people willing to cooperate, prolongs investigations while in the mean time this nurse is also walking those halls, you already know the name of the nurse, the problem with that is as of right now that is all you have, you need a patient (always to never be named out loud because you do not know who you can trust & you definently do not want to alert this nurse that their name has been dropped in a matter as evil as this) could cause them to bolt, a time frame, so that an officer doesn't have spend time checking say like a years worth of records versus records for a few months that you suspect this happened in & why you suspect this nurse, take that to a police officer, you could even take it to a lawyer or barrister & they will take it to a police officer, keep in mind once a barrister takes up your cause they are yours to lead, you do not want to paint a target on your back by going to anyone else in the hospital, it isn't that they can't be trusted it is simple fear of repercussions, their reasons can seem unending & be for anything, if you take it to police & happen upon 1 that is not interested go to the next, try a different jurisdictional police officer, you could keep to yourself while still trying to find more evidence of your accusation because right now it is all it is, but it also risks another life which sometimes happens, i wouldn't talk about it to anyone even those close to you, unintentional slip ups happen & they could tell someone & that someone go to that hospital board, try taking what you have to a newspaper, perhaps a reporter will prove willing to take it seriously, post stories about on your social media accounts, annoy people by not shutting up about it, not information but basic rundowns because having 1 thing never released & it pop up later to convict happens all the time, police don't release certain info hoping if they question someone that tid bit of info will bring them closer to resolving this & getting this nurse first & foremost away from those patients, if you are willing to ask for trouble & headaches because you'll be put through hell until it is resolved, police, hospital staff, friends, bullies, the nurses friends & family, all of these people will want to talk or say something to you, & pretty is not promised
i am a lawyer in America, a Guardian ad Litem, (i represent children) & although i do not know England or UK law (my home country is Sweden) but (believe it or not my husband & i were in England when i went into labor with my triplets & Darlington was the only hospital that would help me have those girls & they were so lovely & caring to all of us so this was gut wrenching when i saw it) but i do know the same actions we take in America to catch & prosecute are virtually the same tactics pretty much, it is so serious of an accusation you are almost morally obligated to try as hard as you can but not to put yourself in any danger trying to get this exposed, YOU MUST BE CAREFUL, TRUE & SAFE during the whole thing, i can't emphasize to you enough how critical it is to expose this because it reaches beyond those hospital halls, these people that are being cared for & those that have already sadly died have family, wives or husbands, children, maybe they were alone in their lives & a dog or other pet is who they have had, they have the right to receive justice &/or have the right to go home to those friends & family, AS DO YOU!! please do not give up on them fight for them, they trusted this person for care & now ask you for help whether or not they know should even be asking for it❤❤❤
Her texts to colleagues included phrases like 'the father was literally crying on the floor' Lucy Letby is inhuman for taking away someone's child. The family that came to the hospital to give birth, leaving the hospital empty handed instead of their newborn. Truly evil of a human. God won't forgive her. Some woman give birth after lot of miscarriages and wait for a miracle and she killed those miracles.
There was a consultation room where the bereaved parents of the child SHE murdered, were being consoled and she forcibly burst into the room even though she was explicitly told not to . She revelled in the grief and suffering, like they said, basically to the point of sadism, she wanted to share in their torment that she herself inflicted upon them. She even said ' Do you want me to take a picture' to the parents, with the baby she just killed. It is literally inhuman levels of depravity in her mind.
If she TRULY repents and asks for forgiveness from God and truly means it; He will forgive her, but that does not mean setting her free
I hope hospital management get taken to court as well. Maybe some of those babies would be alive today if the doctors concerns were looked into and she was removed from duty and investigated earlier
Also the carers working along side her who commented "lucy must be on duty" when a baby was harmed. Anyone who turns a blind eye to abuse is culpable.

My daughter was in a neonatal unit for nearly a week after she was born. The nurses constantly tried to send me home every night telling me i couldn't be by the bed as it wasn't safe. Leaving her there didn't feel safe to me either. The doctors were brilliant.
We all need to be far more honest about health etc.
Neonatal units should have accomodation for parents & family to stay close to their infant
Should be cameras in the room over the babies
Mother is the best remedy! How can a newborn be left without mom when he fights for life? Even her smell, warmth tenderness proves to calm baby and sooth.

No one likes the idea of video surveillance but the protection of the most vulnerable people need to be taken into consideration. We have seen too many stories of abuse and negligence in hospitals, nursing homes, daycare facilities, etc. There MUST be protections in place. To take that many lives to catch a killer in plain sight inside the hospital facility is UNACCEPTABLE. I’m sure the corporate administration may not like the idea of videos showing wrongdoing by staff as it’s not in their interest BUT it is their responsibility and they should be held accountable.
I'm a retired nurse in the states, using my husband's computer, just so y'all know. I have worked in hospitals and nursing homes where they totally look the other way. I would leave after speaking w/management. I cannot and could not abide seeing patients being mistreated or just lying in a bed with wet diapers for hours, etc.
They doctors who raised voice should be knighted or given the highest honor in UK. The hospital admins who didn't listen to these doctors should deserve jail time. Nothing but jail time.
She needs to be given the whole life sentence. She clearly fits the criteria for this (The starting point for murder of two or more people and murder of a child with premeditation is whole life order). Her position as a NHS nurse is a position of trust so it's also an aggravated factor to this.

The BBC has written an excellent report on the systematic incompetence, complacency, and selfishness of hospital management that allowed Letby to murder and attack infants for over a year.
I've worked in these places and it's not just management it's also nurses and carers. They turn a blind eye to abuse for an easy life. There are amazing nurses and carers but sadly not all.

Yes! You can see from the text message exchanges how shocked and devastated staff were to be losing babies, especially since some of these babies had been recovering before they suddenly died or nearly died. Everyone but Letby was emotionally ruined. Letby, on the other hand, just kept volunteering to do more shifts.

My twin boys were born prematurely and you just automatically trust the special care nurse's on the unit as theyre with the babies so much especially whe the parents arent there at times. Our nurses were amazing luckily but the devastating thought that imagine if those nurses were like this evil Letby, its just sickening. Those poor babies and their parents 💔💔

Management ignoring the warning of doctors is very bad.
Now to look into the hospital's attempted cover-up.
When I was doing nursing, I saw some very cold nurses, frightening! but you can't report these nurses as no one will believe you. They are usually charming, popular, nice so if U report them U become the evil one. I saw one slapped a new born and said I don't like these babies. I told a nurse. She exclaimed who, Martha? She wouldn't do that! That was over 50yrrs ago and it continues.

I think there should at the very least be an inquiry into hospital management and how they ignored multiple warnings from consultants. such obvious failings to act must surely be criminal negligence on their behalf especially considering the allegations that were being made. If care workers can get in trouble for accidentally overdosing their service users then why should those in charge get away with such a situation.

The only thing that has not been offered to people is having one family member to each vulnerable patient being allowed to stay with that person for their entity of their hospital stay all staff should have to work in pairs and cctv should be placed around in every room used for care and theater
@@apocalypsewaves Ok, calm down. You cannot use CCTV in a place of residence which a hospital bed is. There are many more effective ways to counter this type of behaviour. The first being is to listen to the concerns raised by staff instead of worrying about the fallout this type of incident has on the Trust as a whole and it's chief exec as an individual. Hold these people to account, then we'll make headway.
But the consultats also failed. They put their fear of loosing their jobs before their Oath and can easily call the police regardless

American here; I don't understand how "upper management" have the power to push consultants and doctors to stop voicing their suspicions about LL and threatening repercussions if they do not stop?
This seem to be a upside down hierarchy. Doctors have the ultimate say in hospitals here.
Why do administrators have that level of power? The doctors are ultimately in charge of lives.

I want to know what the hospital’s interest was in protecting her. Afraid of losing nursing staff? What about doctors and what about patients’ safety?
The BBC'S report indicates that hospital management feared how a police investigation would look. Furthermore, a CEO said he had spent time with Letby and he father; her then put pressure on suspicious staff to apologise to Letby.
they were not protecting her. They were protecting the Hospital's reputation. But cover ups usually make matters worse
As someone else said, it boils down to money and bad PR. Which is now far worse ironically because they tried to cover it up.
I believe if Lucy was suspended straight away before police investigation she would have had a chance to take her employer to the Employment Tribunal through the (GN General Nursing Council. Best they have transfered her until her arrest by the police. Now she can't take her employer to tribunal. For this reason paediateicians were obliged to apologjsed to her and not crossing the Executive line of investigation.
If this happened in the US, she’d be sentenced, at minimum, to life in prison without parole, if not the death penalty. Then, the hospital would be sued out of existence. I don’t support the death penalty, but I do believe she should spend the rest of her life behind bars.
The hospital is fine it's just the management who should be sued and criminally charged.
@@nathanlewis42 that’s actually how it works. The hospital itself is relatively safe, but individual members of the hospital board, who are named in the suit, usually wind up having the hospital cover their costs/penalties.

i understand the nurse's parents were in tears at the court house.......it's human nature to protect your kids. but that so many babies died under her care can't be a coincidence. ....If I was this nurse and one of two babies died under my care I would request to move to another part of the hospital to prove I had nothing to do with it......Did she really think all these babies dying under her care wouldn't have raised questions?

2 out of 3 healthy triplets born died suddenly....the lost to this family is profound. Hospital was 100% criminally negligent because they didnt investigate the claims of her collegues and the rise in mortality rates....

When my son was born, he had seizures. So he spent 4 days at the hospital. I was there as much as possible and pumped milk for him. I found out some of the nurses were giving him formula instead. He started to develop jaundice. One of the nurses was harsh with him in front ofe. Then the doctor came up to me and said that even though they haven't gotten all the test results back yet, he suggested that I take my son home. He said my son will do better and get rid of his jaundice once he is off the formula and at home. The look on his face was stern like i better take his advice and take my son home now.
Would make sense to have psychological tests for doctors and nurses, they do have our lives in their hands after all!

they need to bring the management responsible for ignoring the pleas against her to court too. they are just as responsible for allowing these deaths as lucy letby is for killing them. if management listened this could have minimised further risk to the babies lives. unforgivable. the hospital trust needs to be prosecuted.
This is so heartbreaking for the parents.... As for Lucy, she needs to be put away with a life sentence in prison without parole or the death penalty.
Chills me to bone, this. How devastating for the parents, and the genuine hardworking staff at the unit. The senior management should take a long hard look in the mirror. Ignoring red flags and intimidating staff who raised concerns.
This inquiry should be independent, thorough and be the engine for change. Apologies and buck passing is no use to anyone. Another example of the shady culture that has been allowed to thrive in workplaces, and the majority of dedicated, conciencious staff, who really care are , are treated like criminals.

@@rachelburns5985 It is the abuse of trust that really gets to me, by Letby herself and the senior management towards their staff. It erodes the efforts of hard working, alert, compassionate people working in the NHS and unfortunately, gives ammunition to those who would like to see it go down.
I come from a town where Dr Shipman murdered many people, who trusted and respected him. He had his own practice, which explains a lot. Red flags were there and some people were suspicious. But Letby was part of a team of workers. Obviously, something needs to change.
There shouldn't be an inquiry. There should be an investigation into the management team. Any act or omission that leads to abuse, or in this case, far worse, is unlawful. Safeguarding rules apply to absolutely everyone, from the bottom to the top. They should be charged with wilful negligence at least. But it won't happen.

I had a high school, history teacher, that was an ex police officer of 11 years.
He told us that police officers choose that profession because they have a "chip on their shoulder", as majority of them come from dysfunctional families (drugs, alcohol, DV, SA, neglect, etc..) and they want to make things right (revenge).
Automatically, I thought, she chose nursing because of a specific family issue or trauma.

There should be CCTV cameras at entrance of the baby ward. In other countries that's normal, usually to protect babies from abduction or any criminal offences.

The entire trial & evidence of murder on innocent babies is too distressing. I truly feel the greatest sorrow for the families who lost their babies to this monster. These families will never get over this. The question that still bugs me is why did Lucy Letby even choose to train as a nurse & even work as a nurse. I also wonder if Lucy worked elsewhere before Chester Hospital where other babies died mysteriously on her watch. Her entire work record now needs to be investigated.

Health Authority is equally guilty for allowing Lucy Letby to work on her own. As per NHS own regulations IV injection must be checked by second nurse before injecting in particular Insulin but in Lucy Letby incidents Lucy had no one to double check on this count Health Authority is responsible. In particular babies Insulin must check by another qualified nurse that Lucy had no one except her, so the judge should hold Health Authority responsible when passing Sentence. The judge must take into account Health Authority negligence by reducing sentence on those 7 counts of "allege murder" made possible because Lucy had no second nurse to verify her IV injection for every year of sentences Health Authority must take 75% giving Lucy 25% to be fair as Lucy Letby Health Authority of death for pulling the trigger with Health Authority loaded gun.
That hospital and whoever decided not to investigate NEEDS to be charged!

I have known 2 psychopaths. They always throw really great parties because they want everyone to like them so much!

This is a horrific case. But, why did the staff involved who suspected something was wrong not call the police. The went to managers repeatedly but were not happy with the way they where treated . They should have raised their concerns with the police.
We have all become institutionalised.
They wanted to call the police and made requests for this, but they were discouraged by management.
LETBY should be handcuffed and forced to attend court to hear the statements read by her victims families. This is the worst case I have ever seen .
I wonder what her parents are thinking, I wonder what they are going through. When they look at the parents and hear the accounts of what happened I wonder if they look at their daughter and wonder what went wrong.
She not only killed those babies and destroyed the parents lives but she sent her own parents to purgatory.

Several consultants and at least one doctor noticed it, and management dismissed their concerns.

@@hambonejamboree7750Sure. Letby is wholly responsible for her murders. But the BBC has written an excellent article showing the systematic failures of hospital management, including refusal to notify the police in good timing, that helped Letby continue murdering children.

How would she feel if someone hurt her whilst she was having her knee surgery as she mentions. The most vulnerable place to be is under the care of other people. They need to make sure do more checks on the people that have care roles. It's awful
My twin Nieces were born premature at 3 lbs 4 oz & 3 lbs 2 ounces . Thee was a baby boy who was even smaller I don’t know if he survived being so tiny . How could anyone especially a Neonate nurse hurt these tiny sweethearts ? This is disgusting put her under the jail !

Totally agree as people would comment on the ward "lucy must be on duty" when a baby came to harm. Nothing worse than a coward who turns a blind eye. 😔
