4:42 I love the dry humor. I've been binge watching most of your episodes since discovering your channel yesterday. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I dont know if you ever read your contract.. but it might actually say that HODs are responsible to keep the way clear. In that case, put down tools and get the AD to clear the scene. Because if you clip one of these idiots .. it will be your fault.
Love the detail! Never really thought about it, but have somehow intuitively taken on all your steps as habit... the beauty is relaying the logic behind the practice for those coming up. Thank you.
I always recommend carrying it upright with 2 hands. Holding it like a shopping bag can trap your fingers between the legs and pole when lifted back up vertically on even slightly loose legs.
The trouble with the stand on the shoulder is that if you turn you can swipe someone. Its not wrong just requires a high level of alert or get a runner to follow you. If the clamps are not done up the stand can slide - super bad but we are going to have our stand tight :)
The hardest part is getting heavy stuff up to your shoulders. Stands aren't such a big deal but a lot of film gear is uneven in shape and weight distribution so it isn't like practicing with a barbell at all
Ah yes, classic doorway situation. The crazy thing is that even after alerting them that you are passing by multiple times, they just return to the same doorway...

Glad to see I am not the only person who has seen how doorways are magnetic to people who have nothing better to do than be in the way..
That shit is universal :)
Yep, so many times I have to say to people to clear the doorways please. Then 10 minutes later, the same people are back.
49 of 50 advertising producers agree.

Indeed. Thank you Andrew and Luke both for your channels. Simple, everyday actions are great to break down like you 2 do. *thumbs up*
Very basic, but terribly useful tips. Thanks for that.
Your basic skills videos are great. The tricks you leanr after many painful experiences. Keep them coming
Very interesting! I didn't know you could damage the locking mechanism like that
It takes about 4 weeks of carrying them by the head to do this.
Please never stop making videos!!!
Thank you so much for this lesson, it saved me from a hit a while ago.
Nice practical tips thanks.

I was carrying a combo last week and the first thing that came to mind is, "what would Andrew do?" Thanks for these videos!
Need that on a T-Shirt - WWAD What Would Andrew Do?
Love to refresh some basic skills practice
A very useful video. Thanks for this!
"49 standing in the doorway" 😂 so true. If you want all 50 you have to go to video village.

Brilliant. Thanks for this!
Very informative and helpful video. Wondering how you held that heavier stand in one hand for few secs. Your are strong. God bless
True core strength from a lifetime of graft.
Super informative please keep on making these
Can you do one about carrying a stand with a light on it? Love how in-depth you get with this.
I most definitely will.
Thanks
Andrew is GAFFER GOD!!
I've already praised the wisdom but you are also hilarious. "the reason I do that is NOT to protect them" hahaha
Thanks. Again. :D
thanks
"Light stand embedded in your face" 😂😂😂😂😂

That's a good point. A lot of new manufacturers don't get that the weight needs to be centred.
god, your humor is spot on! haha
My problem is keeping the stands locked when transporting in my car or truck (pickup). Every time I pull them out, one of the locks breaks loose.
Very nice time👌😊
already applied this technique before realizing how dangerous for a simple task

If that happens to me I usually inform them I'm coming back hoping they don't get to comfortable at the door. ;)
