      @@vincewilson1 No, it was cancelled because fans hated and didnt watch it. Its sad but true. Most "Trekkies" were unsatisfied with the concept of a prequel. They wanted a continuation of the TNG-era after Voyager. In my opinion a prequel series was the right thing to do because the TNG era got "stuck" from a creativity point of view.

    • @somebuddyX
      @somebuddyX 2 года назад +1

      It just needed to make more of an impression out of the gate. The audience for Star Trek actually rose from Voyager's last season to Enterprise's first few episodes, so people were interested in a prequel. It had some strong episodes in the opening seasons but they were few. It suffered from being the flagship series of a new network, run by people who weren't taking chances or living up to the prequel idea. A lot of the shows could have been done on any series and some like Rogue Planet or Oasis, HAD been done before. It also had much more competition with shows like Stargate SG1, Battlestar Galactica, Farscape and even Doctor Who at the end. It does have some killer episodes in it's run that are some of the best of Trek.

    A new series based on 20 years after Enterprise would actually be quite a good direction to go, you could have all this in it, a new crew of the NX-01 refit, and have the actors come back in roles such as Scot Bakula as the first federation president.

    • @LeoH3L1
      @LeoH3L1 3 года назад +2

      @Michael Davidson That sounds good, but not too many of those episodes, maybe one or two at most.
      It has clearly been established that the federation knew something about the borg before the events at system J-25, from the backstory of Seven of Nine, and I'm sure that after the events of Generations the Elurians would have told them of it.
      So a little bit more peripheral contact would be ok, as long as they remain an unnamed mystery, even if a little bit of contrivance is needed.
      One way to do it would be finding some borg ship wreckage, just a little bit say from a small scout ship, nothing containing any data, just stuff that looks borg, or maybe something like from the episodes running up to the first meeting with a cube where those colonies where scooped up in TNG.
      Then leave it as an unsolved mystery.
      The thing that people forget about the issue with the borg is that the contact in Ent is a long time before Picard, and if you ask a captain of a ship how many of them are going to know about something a captain encountered 200 years ago.
      Keep it vague enough and it'll be ok with canon as far as I care.

    • @LeoH3L1
      @LeoH3L1 3 года назад

      @Michael Davidson Perhaps have it as a section 31 had some form of contact with them, they're not exactly keen on sharing information even with starfleet if they don't have to, also there's no reason any encounter has to be with borg drones, it would make sense that long range probes would not be manned by drones, so maybe that's a way to encounter them but not upset the canon.

      I don't think it would have been too much of a stretch. The first Constitution class ships were commissioned in the 2240s, and there is still a large technological gap between them and the NX-refits. Though the general hull structure is similar, so much of the internals are different. Like photonic torpedoes --> photon torpedoes, phase cannons --> phasers, upgrading speed from Warp 6 to Warp 8, better replicators, transporters, shields, etc.

    I have the eaglemoss model of the Enterprise Refit NX-01. According to Robert Meyer Burnett that Paramount has been sitting on a trilogy movie called Star Trek Beginnings which is about the Earth-Romulan War since 2006. The Star Trek Enterprise novels post season 4 fill in the blanks quite nicely such as Trip faked his own death to join Section 31 and the Earth-Romulan War. I have read in the past about script ideas from Manny Coto regarding season 5 Enterprise such as T’Pol was actually half Vulcan and half Romulan, a 5 episode arch in the Mirror Universe following on from the Season 4 Mirror Darkly episodes and how the Coalition of Planets dealt with the lead up to the Earth-Romulan War which would have begun in Season 6. I personally can’t watch Secret Hideouts interpretation of Star Trek since 2017. Hopefully when their Contract runs out in 2023 then Paramount will have full control of Star Trek again.

As an example...they talked about how, every 20 years, the ships would be updated. They talked about "modular" designs of sections-- where entire things like the bridge module could be removed, replaced, and or updated in space docks to keep the technology current.

    Would had been cool if the Columbia class has hardpoints for several Minotaur class warp fighters to be docked on it. The Columbia class would act as the long range carrier for the Minotaurs and it would be docked with hard points at two aft dorsal and two aft ventral and a couple docked between the neck of the secondary hull&saucer section. The Columbia class can travel past Warp7 while the Minotaur's warp engines can only go past Warp4. The hard points could also be used for cargo pods like for mines and troop carriers. The idea came from the Andorians using attack drones for their military ships.

Afterward Enterprise received several important refits including enhanced hull plating and essentially an early version of photon torpedoes. The next time the Klingons attacked the new weapons managed to do significant damage to the Bird of Prey. It was cool to see that, slowly, bit by bit, Humanity was starting to catch up to the existing interstellar powers. It gave a sense of progression, of what would give rise to the Federation.

      @williamsquires3070 3 года назад +1

      Or use it as a weapon, much like in TNG where they fired it at the Borg. It would also have two phaser emitters to either side that would fire at a focal point about 100 yards in front, and combine with the beam from the deflector-dish, to create a super powerful, but short-lived, cutting beam that would rival even the (later) Enterprise-E’s phasers, similar to the creepy Shadow ships from Babylon-5. 🤗 It would have both a primary and secondary-fire mode. The primary-fire mode just fires the beam from the (modified) deflector array; this lasts about 5 seconds before you have to recharge. The secondary-fire mode combines the beam with those of the two phaser emitters to create a much more powerful beam, but it can only fire for about 1-1.5 seconds. You have to use the right-mouse button for this mode, though. 🤣 Too bad the NX-01 didn’t come standard with a laser mouse. 😭

I feel like it was one step in the right direction however. It always kinda bugged me that after NX01 was retired that there wouldn't be another Enterprise for decades to come. Oh well.

    *In Universe* it does make sense as a quicker way to upgrade the ship.
    Build the secondary hull separately, then _when completed_ attach it to the NX ship while doing the modifications needed on the NX's hull - the shuttle bay being converted into the attachment point and the original Warp Core being removed, plus all the rewiring.
    It would minimise the down time needed as most of the new systems are already built into the new module _that is the secondary hull._
    BTW *in my headcanon,* the reason the Federation went with the Human design paradigm is not Political (or even that Humanity had the best design), but that Humans had designed their ships to be modular and easily upgradable, due to the knowledge that there was far more advanced technology locally and the expectation that they would be upgrading with it. As well, Human ships could readily fit in systems from other species, whereas trying to fit Tellerite or Andorian technology (or any other species that you came across… see Voyager) on a Vulcan ship would be a nightmare.
    They made their ships like desktop computers that could have components swapped out as soon as a new graphics card was released, and take advantage of spare PCIE slots, while other species built theirs like laptops/netbooks (with no user serviceable parts) since they were always built with the current state of the art and the assumption of slow technological progress.
    …And that is why completely changing the shape of the hull and fitting a new Warp Core is considered a _"minor refit"_ by Starfleet.

    The NX ships were named "Columbia" class because the rest of the ships had received modifications after the NX-01 had launched and was already in deep space. The Enterprise had many aspects (phasers and torpedo launchers) built or adapted during the mission and many of those modifications were installed on the other ships during construction. The remaining ships were built on the same design as the second production

    when they put the iconic secondary haul on the NX its more of a eps power and redundant systems upgrade. upgrades that focused mostly on the need to have better sensors than others and still having the dish on the saucer. a starfleet ships in piece can divide the use of the most advanced sensor tech without loosing any tactical awareness. during possible combat or war having redundant systems makes it so much harder to actually take a ship out of a fight without destroying it is what made starfleet so badass and why the secondary haul refit became iconic to future design!

      No, unfortunately you won't see either. CBS would have to license these designs from Paramount or the creators themselves, and they've shown no inclination to do anything like that. It's the same reason why we never saw Nebulas or Akiras, etc in Picard and instead saw the USS Copy-Paste/USS Generic Star Warsy classes, and why the 'new' 1701 was a weird amalgam of the TOS, TMP and Discovery styles-- because licensed IP.
      ...also, all the CBS Treks exist in a different universe to TOS, TMP, TNG, etc. They have to, again, because of licensing. Even though they want the fans to believe so (most Trek fans aren't buying it), the lawyers at both studios have agree that, until the IP is licensed and paid for, it's not part of the Roddenberry universe.

In my opinion, enterprise and voyager were the most "trek" shows out of them all. Love Piccard as one of, and arguably the best captain ever, but TNG was really just a sci fi soapy in my opinion. Voyager and Enterpise were the most "trek" oriented shows of "boldly going and exploring strange new worlds", but again, just my opinion. Janeway was my favourite captain, equally was piccard. Voyager was my favourite, followed by TNG which only just beats enterprise only because of piccard and the movies though.

    The NX-01 Refit looks cool but I prefer if they spent 2-3 seasons more on showing the evolution of NX-01 into the Refit. I want to see the Enterprise to live up to it's NX names and get slapped with every piece of experimental technology they've acquired. It could get so bad for NX-01 that by the end of the series that they revealed a new class of ships to bear the name Enterprise and lead the Federation of planets.

    You know what? I'm suddenly realizing the one complication with addressing the Romulan/Federation war in Enterprise. When Kirk's Enterprise encountered a Romulan Warbird raiding border outposts, a major plot point of that episode was that they had no idea what Romulans looked like because the war of about 100 years prior was fought before visual communications was a thing, and all communication was made via old-fashioned radio. NX-01 Enterprise had visual coms just like all of the other series before it, and it would have been a complex bit of writing to try and make up an excuse as to why they could see the Tholians better than Kirk ever did, but why they wouldn't be able to have any visuals of Romulans, or any idea that they look like Vulcans.

    • @builder396
      @builder396 3 года назад +2

      Actually, I disagree. ENT had Romulans appear as antagonists twice, and both times Romulans simply didnt show their faces. All hails, if any, were audio only, and there is no reason for the Romulans to expose themselves during the Federation-Romulan war beyond showing their ships. The only way Romulans could end up showing their faces involuntarily would be ground combat, but I dont see the Romulans having any reason why they would participate in that in the first place.
