  • Every fence is unique and therefore every fencing issue is unique. In this video we take a closer look at a very specific fencing context at a high traffic culvert crossing where cattle cross under the road for daily pasture access. This area is under a lot of pressure not only from the hoof traffic and volume but from the dramatic drop in elevation in such a short distance.
The quick fix here is simple: reattach the two sprung wires in the bottom of the dip. We walk through all the steps to complete this repair including loosening the tension on the high tensile wires and using a reinforced stapling method to insure a better hold at the dip post.
Any fence issue can be a quick fix when you have the right materials and the right tools! You can find everything used in this video and that you can use for your own quick fix at kencove.com!

That was pretty slick. How do you keep the post from pulling out it a big elevation change like that? Is it just because you don't have to pull the wires as hard as on non- hi tensile wire?

Ideally, the post in that dip would be braced. We didn't do the initial install, simply offered to fix the issue. We would recommend bracing that dip post to help overcome the elevation change and the possibility of that post pulling out. The deeper that post could be driven the better it would hold on its own, but bracing would be the best option.

I drive 2 star pickets in at the base of the post how far they can be driven with a sledge hammer depends on the hardness of the ground (best done in the wetter months). Have two posts where I have driven 2 standard star pickets fully in. These pickets can be wired and stapled to the post, but I have also used 125 mm type 17 tex screws. Best tie wire is 10 gauge double galv. Manufacturing wire - easy to shape and twist tight using a Queensland (Au) Hitch.

Why do you need insulators on timber posts?

Hello! Wood posts create an instant ground. You need an insulator for electric fence on wood and metal posts. There are several options available kencove.com/fence/wood-post-insulators_listing.php
