Surge is where the throttle plate is open, and the turbo is making more boost than the engine can take, so it goes back in the turbo. flutter is when the throttle plate is closed , and the remaining boost ends up being chopped up by the compressor blades. Surge is dangerous. Flutter might be harmful. No evidence for it though since turbos don't last forever even with a BOV.
My hks ssqv 4 sounds like that. The ssqv 1 i had, older type was great, loved the sound of that until it started leaking. :( Also had a blitz which is ok, dont seem to open until higher psi tho so id get compressor surge say anything bellow 10psi.
From 1:40 and the ones after that are really high pitched are most likely cx racing blow off valvs but apparently its tricky to get that cool video game sound
if these all these cars had BOVs, then a lot need to be adjusted or light springs used. unless they purposely have too stiff springs for that compressor surge sound

The r34 at 2:51 has probably no bov. If you want the fast and furious Sound hks ssqv is the way to go. If you want the stutututu you have to run no Bov at all. I prefer no bov or ssqv cause the normal bov sneezing is weird.
Not very many BOV's here.. it is called boost surge.... the reason you hear the"stututututu" is because You get a rapid, strong fluctuation in turbine speed and air pressure when the throttle bodys closed and the turbos still spooled up. A BOV opens your intake to release the boost pressure when the throttle closes, wich allows the turbo to stay spooling quickly, keeping the boost pressure up when the throttle opens back up.. all theyre for is smoother acceleration on quick shiting. They have nothing to do with your over all HP.. really, it just eases turbo strain and inproves your 0-60.. if the turbo is small enough, the turbines wont have enough momentum to change the amount of boost drasticaly enough to beed a BOV at all. There is no difference in turbo speed between running a blow off valve and not running one, people have literally tested this on a dyno, there is no fluctuation in turbine speed, the turbo speed drops like normal because exhaust flow is reduced.
The creator of this video is not a car guy. He doesn't know the differnce between bov and flutter..... a lot of the clips are not even accurate to the bov indicated.
Double horned prototypes from old days were waaay louder let all that air out , most get stuck and ends up back in the turbo again just wrong sized for application, besides blow off valves if I ever want a really high pitch spool never ever go past an anti surge compressor

Ball bearing turbos are designed to take the stress of BOV absence very well. Its with journal bearing turbos that this can become a serious problem to worry about. This is why you hear supras and skylines everywhere with the "su too too too too" sound, in that they have big single ball bearing turbos that take the stress well. However, i am not regarding your comment as false as it very much is true.
Crade Official turbo flutter. You can make the exact sound be forcing the air not to come out of the bov, simply by replacing the gasket with a gasket without a hole for air flow. Buts it's bad for your turbo

Many of these video show turbo flutter. Usually this occurs because there is no BOV installed or it's installed incorrectly.

Definitely not enough boost to really hear the hks. You can't run low boost on them to hear their real sound
