This trap is what got me into "expensive=great tequila" in Cancun. The "ding ding bottle" was the pinnacle of great tequila according to the server at our restaurant. Thankfully, I've learned a lot and listened to those who know what well made tequilas are all about. Now, going back to drinking anyone of the 3 you mentioned is a horrible experience. I just recently escaped the major marketing brands. Hilariously, Casamigos is so popular the local store has to keep it locked up so it won't get hijacked. Meanwhile, non additive brands like Siete Leguas and Tequila Ocho are just out on the shelf. :)
I started with tequila about 20 years ago... maybe a bit more. Without knowing what I was drinking, Chinaco was my favorite. But, Casa Noble, Don Julio, and Tres Generaciones were also my go-to's, amongst others that I tried throughout the years. On occasion, I would drink Clase Azul and thorugouhly enjoyed it but with limited income, it wasn't something I bought often. In the last five years, I truly have explored tequila. I still have trouble identifying notes- if it were a pizza, I'd tell you every last ingredient- but I have trouble with alcohol... I guess my olfactory senses aren't as refined as my palate. Whatever... I do, however, know good tequila. Don't ask me why, I just do. But, that's where you (and others of my own Long Island heritage...) come into play. I'll let y'all tell me what's so special. And, these videos and especially your podcasts, elevate my understanding and confirm why I am right. Thanks for a great set of info.
