Otalib in the second part of the movie, its ending was unacceptable. I want to understand why Haku didn't go with Chihiro, even though I remember her costume's name, and why tell her not to look back while she goes back to her world 😡
I wouldn’t use the dub as a reference for this movie since some of the lines are changed from the original Japanese. To the point where it effects the plot.
Totally understand! The video is based off of the English dub, and although the sub may change some meaning, I would assume the overall narrative structure remains the same
Hey there! Definitely tons of symbolism to point out in the movie. I picked the main things that stuck out to me that seemed to pertain to Chihiros character development as it relates to her hero’s journey. Glad you found some stuff I didn’t catch though!
Wonderful video! This is one of the nicest and most comprehensible analysis the hero's journey that I have seen; well done. It will definitely help me write my next story.
Nice review, but Miyazaki has gone on record saying that he made the movie to show that the girl always had the ability to triumph over her situation. She already had it in her and just pulled it out when confronted. It wasn't a lack.
Hey there! So I didn’t go into this detail in the video but in Joseph Campbells book “The Hero with a Thousand Faces” a good deal of psychoanalysis is discussed and in particular Jungian analysis. Although I didn’t discuss it in depth, I think from a Jungian perspective, we can say that Chihiro’s gain and change in personality was due to her coming into connection with a part of her unconscious. It’s not that some force from outside enabled her to be more confident, but rather her becoming more in touch with her self and something within her that enabled a shift
@@crispyairplane - interesting. I can't remember where I heard/read this but it's been said that at the end, when Chihiro and her parents exit the tunnel, she no longer remembers what happened to her, like her parents and only her hairband is left as evidence that her experience happened at all.
well said, not only everything's explained but also gave me a new perspective to look to the film from, i used psychoanalysis before to interpret the film as a story of chihiro dealing with her bad side, which i though is to be her desire to get rid of her parents because she hate them, actually your take put more parts of the film into perspective while i focused more in enjoying the "erotics" of the film, again very well said and good explanation, thanks very much.
I think when I watched this the first time, I didn’t get any of these concepts. Does that mean that I lack something? But im happy to see this explanation… I read Joseph Campbell’s book long time ago and his 6 hour long interview with Bill Moyers… but I didn’t remember those concepts when watching Spirited Away.
Not at all! There are many different reasons to consume content and one of those reasons is for pure entertainment. We don’t always have to dig deep to find the hidden meanings. Sometimes we can just watch a film for the sake of enjoyment 😊
@@crispyairplane well said. I do that with my enjoyment of rum and cigars. I don’t know what to enjoy or what to pay attention to… I just enjoy it… without taking notes and if I forget what I enjoyed and bought the same one, I enjoy it again like the first time! Hehehe
I think this helps me better realize why I disliked this film. The setup for the main chsracter’s flaws consist of just the first couple scenes, and many of these main conflicts don’t deal at all with the establishment of the main character’s flaws. Since when is it ever made clear in the movie that one of her main issues is that she wishes she didn’t have different parents? When was she greedy before? It’s bloated and unfocused, making the theme difficult to discern
Great subject, decent video editing, fairly poor script. Overall I think you've got some great potential and hope to see how you grow. Maybe find some trustworthy people to run your scripts across for editing notes. Keep it up bro and you'll find a solid place.
i watched over 4 hours of analysis videos on "spirited away" and this is the first one that has actual analysis in it ...
Haha well I’m glad you found this one and I hope you enjoyed!
You bringing up that No-Face is Chihiro's indulgent shadow is funny since No-Face body is dark and translucent.
I'm literally a single minute in but i have a really good feeling I'll love this channel
I hope you enjoy it 😁
You explained everything so well and even taught me so many thing I didn’t know about the film even after watching it a million times !
So glad you liked it! Thanks for watching
Ditto. And made the movie even more beloved and brilliant.
I am so glad I’m not the only one that hears the word hero in Chihiro’s name 👌.
I’m sure it’s a coincidence, but it’s a really neat one!
Just when I was thinking about the archetypes in spirited away, you came through!
Yes, me too
The "revelation" mentioned at 4:18 was added in the English dub. The original Japanese ending doesn't have it.
Wow, pretty interesting. I watched the dub as my source material for the movie so I’m sure there are quite a few subtle differences
Amazing video. Studying this film for my A level and this proved a very useful resource
Glad you enjoyed!

This was really well done, I hope you make more!
Thank you 😊
Great job! I agree with everyone, your voice is so soothing. 👏
Thank you 😊
Agreed

why did you not talk about the river spirit challenge that is literally the midpoint/ordeal of the film?

Wow that’s a pretty interesting part of the story! Thanks for the comment and I hope you enjoyed the video
@@crispyairplane - I have. Looking forward to the rest.
I am madly impressed. Are you!?
I agree with you! Great job, Nick.
Well made video!!
Thanks!

Great video! What did you use to edit it?
Thanks so much! I used premiere pro
