The "tactical cube" was always a frustrating invention of Voyager - it suggested specialization for Borg ships when they were supposed to be philosophically decentralized and uniform.
That just isn't true TNG established that Borg Ships are cubes and also spheres and whatever shape Hugh's ship was. This was long before Voyager ever aired. Borg vessels have always been a centralized group think collective. The borg queen just became a hub for all information the borg collective takes in but, she is under the control of the hive as well. The queen also is solely does all the research the borg does. They even made Locutus special within the collective during their first encounter as he processes information like the queen. "We are the Borg" completely centralized.
@@xineohpinakc264 I don't know what isn't true about what I just said. The Borg can have whatever shapes necessary, but a specialized cube that is bigger and badder than a standard one just defies the design aesthetic. (It makes sense in some respects, as the Borg do not have infinite resources, but it just doesn't fit.)
@@bjorn00000 It fits fine. A tactical cube would be necessary against civilizations with a lot of hardened armor technology. Borg Spheres serve as larger scout ships, The borg queens interface ship and When I mentioned Hugh's ship it reminds me of the probe ship from Voy. that was about the same size and firepower as an Intrepid.
@@xineohpinakc264 We know next to nothing about Hugh's ship, including its shape. The only thing that TNG (including First Contact) suggested was that there would be different sizes and later shapes but they would still be decentralized and serve the same functions (just at larger or smaller scales). As I said at the top, anything more than that was just a stupid Voyager invention.
The Tactical Cube is just the Borg being dickish. Most civilizations can barely beat one cube and the Borg go..."you know what? Let's put armor on a cube."

Irony is" we've never witnessed any other species assimilated by The Borg than human, such as: Klingon, Vulcan, Romulan, Cardassian, Ferengi, Changeling, Talaxian, etc.
For some similar reason they too can't be assimilated" just as species 8472 can't be assimilated.🤨
I never understood the diffent borg ships the point of borg is to assimalate and improve themselves if somthing worked better than they had all borg should upgrage to best ability so all ships should be the same
i always understood 4, a scout to scout thats costs less resources and is faster to build so you have more faster(the sphere?) for new stuff to get, if you can collect it, send a Cube, if you cant send a tactical Cube to destroy it (wich probably wasnt needed until species 8472), or you send a science ship to study it and later implement it (the diamond)

I still play Star Trek Armada 2 and love that Tactical Fusion Cube, is just so overwhelming you almost feel bad for the enemy fleets.

The Tactical Fusion Cube was a fleet in and of itself, let alone if you sent support vessels for cover.

Ah the borg tactical cube, I did love how it looked when I first saw it, too bad the whole mood when seeing it was ruined when Voyager engaged the tactical cube in a pretty long fight and survived with what was much lower damage than what should have been
Yeah... I just assumed that the Queen was making the cube "pull its punches" out of curiosity as to why Voyager was attacking and not wanting to kill Seven. I doubt the Queen really considered Voyager to be much of a threat at that point and I think she still had plans for them. Because really there's no way Voyager could have escaped their first encounter with the tactical cube if the Queen had really wanted them destroyed or captured.
@@darongw I've also thought this too since the Queen always had a weird obsession with 7 of 9. Would she really want her killed?
ST: Voyager de-fanged the Borg, more and more with every Borg encounter. Well, ST: TNG did that with episodes after their initial meeting but they just did that to stop the Borg from being utterly unstoppable... making them go from beatable to just a *nearly* unbeatable cube against one ship is a hell of a downgrade.

@@AdmiralStilesSciFiGaming I'm not disagreeing. That's another part of how the Borg are de-fanged... the Queen picking a favorite. The Queen can make another 7 of 9 if she wished, just download her pre-separation mind (copy of it) into another drone. That would be a Borg thing to do. What the Borg became is quite... Romulan, but without the ability to be as cold as a machine when it comes to sacrificing assets. Every aspect of the modern Borg is kind of a pathetic shadow of what they were originally created to be. In my opinion, when they went from a collective to a hive mind centered on a Queen, that was the final nail in the coffin. ST: VOY just finished them off.
I loved the tactical cube. I also thought it absolutely ridiculous that the plan was to allow arguably 3 of the most important members of the voyager crew to be assimilated. Then when it works, they somehow retain NONE of the massive amount of information they should have had!
To be fair only tuvok was actually connected to the hive mind. The others had suppressors so as to not be connected
dont get me wrong tac cube was powerful but the decahedron from STO actually dwarfs the power of this ship and thats not to mention the unimatrix ships as well

Now I like star trek voyager and I like the Borg eps but they nerfed the living feck out of them. A cube is a fleet destroyer in voyager it has problems taking down an intrepid class 🤦🏾 bring the Borg back to full power like in tng.

Star Trek Voyager is up there as one of my least favourite Star Treks but controversially I liked the Borg episodes the flaws are there but against the rest of Voyager I think the Borg episodes are good. They probably just look bad when you remove them from context.

The tactical cube made perfect sense to me. It is in my opinion perfectly borg! They have taken an already powerful yet existing design and just optimised it for combat and tanking. Very efficient 🤣🤣

Does most of the scenes from Voyager got AI upscaled? If so, where those scenes came from? Netflix version of the show is deffinitly worse in image quality.

Why would the Borg have different types of cube? In a race such as the Borg, it is more logical that each cube would have the same capability.

I would’ve loved something like an obelisk for the borg’s tactical ship. The tactical cube always felt kind of lazy to me.
There are races with way more powerfull weaponry than Federation's. Voth or Bethans. So having more armored cube as response is giving sense, while cheaper(dronehours) cubes serving as expendable scout ships.

I think there’s a reasonable argument to assume that the reason why the Borg came up with the tactical cube is in response to species 8472. A standard cube stood no chance against one bio ship
That borg Pyramid looks very similar up a Hatak from Stargate.
to be honest while I can imagine the Borg sticking to their tried-and-true designs it doses defeat their purpose as well wich is to adapt wich is to get better they are in a since are ai or computers with bioengineering so just the cubes makes um predictable so I would of liked to see their design change to become adapted to the new tactics were they use to be formidable now they seem to be no more than nuisances. Still nice to see the star trek universe being built upon so it not the end of the world.

The federation should build a maga ship or two to dwarf the bird ship, with a generation family like with thousands of crew and hundreds of phaser cannons and photon torpedos 10 warp cores and 4 slipstream drives. Inter galactic capable. Self sustaining.
STO may be adding a fusion cube soon. I and I am sure many others would love a similar video for that.
