- Media and Comms Advisor Hamish MacLachlan-Lester says the deep-faked AI video of US President Joe Biden responding to a question with a realistic synthesised voice was done in “real-time”.
“In terms of that video, it’s not only that it’s just a deepfake, it is a real-time deepfake that is responding to a question,” Mr MacLachlan-Lester told Sky News host Cory Bernardi.
You could tell that wasn't Joe because of how clear the speech was.

@@Spacemaaan for the moment there are ways of detection, but at the rate technology is progressing it'll be impossible in the future.
It seemed fake to me, maybe I’ve looked at video in detail for a while now as a photographer / videographer that has specialized in time lapse, unfortunately you get to notice things like a repeated frame (or dropped frame) in the event the camera failed to capture a frame for some reason, which was sometimes an issue for cameras that saved to older CF media and the shutter trigger set for 3 seconds or less, in my case... lots of video tells that it was a re-creation of some kind, and then it didn’t copy his actual mental acuity and verbal speech patterns which is probably the biggest clue, but provided enough development and quality training data all those weaknesses could be overcome, so it is still of some concern.
That's how you improve the result, you have a generator and a detector who play against each other. Iterate long enough and it gets good enough nobody can tell for certain.

Answering political questions is actually very easy and requires about as much processing as a spelling checker.
First you simply compile all the possible questions that politician will likely be asked including a few odd ball questions, then you script all the answers including some stock answers for those oddball questions.
This sounds hard but there’s hundreds of years of recorded yacking from politicians and journalists so almost every possible question has already been asked and answered . What the AI need only do is match the questions with the scripts and play the precompiled responses, where the real computing power comes in is rendering the voice and images in a seemless natural way .
But everyone would know that that wasn’t really Brandon talking as it was too lifelike.
