- The highs and lows of sailing. Living off grid isn't entirely without it's problems, but the boating community is one of the best in the world and you can always rely on the help of other sailors. And in this episode the boating industry did a pretty good job too!

The PIN is not specifically Turkish, and your issue is super easy to resolve. Put the SIM card in your iPad, then go to Settings, Mobile Data, select the data plan, then you'll see an option at the bottom of the page called "SIM PIN". Tap on it, and switch it off. Done :-)
You'll then be able to use the SIM anywhere without PIN.
Awesome scenery and good tour of that castle. Great filming work.
I had to laugh with the spray work on the electrics. Great product you used, and for the record, that 'Contact cleaner' is the one we use too on our LifePO4 terminals etc, etc.
There is a term they use - Polar and non polar. Contact cleaner and white spirit are both non polar.
We dont often comment these days but well done on the PHD.
We do enjoy your productions. Big thanks.
Many thanks for your comment! Everything works out in the end….
Interesting post , Bit of everything , Thanks .
Quite a scramble up that hill. Can’t believe you attempted that. I loved especially that first beautiful town with a castle. I never knew Turkey had these kinds of ruins and I’m completely intrigued and now want to go and visit. You both are covering territory not shared by other you tube sailing channels. I’m sharing your channel on my own FB page and my cousins page, including another Aslett family page just because in this United States that surname is very unusual. We are related in some way and I hope to find that lineage connect. Thanks for another interesting vlog.
I just love your boat it’s beautiful. The prettiest of all that I follow.
I truly enjoy your wonderful videos! It is easy to see you are wonderful and sincere people who enjoy sailing. Congratulations and fair winds and following seas.
You can turn off the sim pin from your iPad by going into settings --> cellular ---> sim pin and it shouldn't ask you again no matter which device it's in.
Only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the noon day sun .......... lol. Another wonderful film guys, you are the best. Thank you. :)
Firstly, thank you for the effort you guys put into your videos. I really enjoy the casual and friendly attitude that you guys share. The endless facts about particular places and the the manner you express yourselves. Secondly, the videos are always brilliantly filmed.
Thanks Guy, really nice to hear.
I, 100% agree with that statement!!
The works performed by our ancestors... So impressive and fascinating. They were either so incredibly determined to be able to carve the rock, or had special techniques now lost to us, or both. Amazing.
As always lovely, informative, and so pleasant to watch,! Love SV Fair Isle!
Simply the loviest channel on RUclips 😁👍
Great video as always .One of the best sailing channels on you tube .
That is excellent service, very impressed.
Outstanding video Fair isle as always
Great stuff guys. Thanks to you I was out with my shiny new epropulsion a couple of weeks ago, it's fantastic!
Excellent video guys, great content, looking forward to the next episode ⛵️⚓️😊👍👏
Hi, I've always enjoyed ur channel such informative content and magical scenery. Fair Isle is a stunning boat, she cuts through the water so cleanly. I thought u were a gentleman until I saw u drink from the water bottle first, where were ur manners, ladies first especially ur wife, she is the most important person in ur world. Thanks for sharing 😁 Congratulations Judy on ur diploma well done. 🌟🌟
Great to see our old stomping ground. Sorry you didn't go further East and see some of the less touristy areas of that coast, it really is a unique area of the med. Stay safe and keep them coming.
Yes it’s so difficult to see everything. At least we sailed the Northern areas around Izmir which are still very Turkish and unspoilt. (Although I wouldn’t exactly call this area spoilt!)
Clint Eastwood of the Sea :-) ! Nice video.
I have been catching up with your amazing videos Steve and Judy! I just wanted to say how much I enjoy them! Venice was so interesting but Turkey is fantastic! Congratulations Judy on your graduation! 😃 Keep those videos coming please. ⛵️🌊😎
Well thank you Tina, glad you enjoy them
Mad dogs and Englishmen hike in the mid-day sun!
Even if the path was un seen......the Rosemay bushes was nice, even better with lam garlic and olive ojl, frech bread and sun warm tomatos! Even hears like the serviceminded motor seller was on board! Barbro Sweden
Hermosos lugares , saludos desde Montevideo Uruguay 🇺🇾
Congratulations on the PhD. Lovely views of Turkish coast. Perhaps a petrol auxiliary might be a good idea. Worry about your hikes (I got stuck half way up a famous mountain on a baking hot day decades ago before managing to scramble down). All the best. 👍
Hi to you both, congratulations Judy, earning your Phd,it could not have been easy with all of your busy boat life going on.Another excellent video showing that there is quite a community spirit in yachting circles.Having worked on boats and ships as an engineer i found that if it could go wrong it probably would regardless of the quality, the good thing is that you are fully mobile again.cheers Roly 🇬🇧.
Lockdown was a blessing in that respect. Gave me a couple of months to write!
VERY SCARY CLIMB!!!!! 😅😅😅😅😅
Great result with the new motor.👍. Not too sure about the climb up that mountain.😅
Hi both, we just found your videos and we are really enjoy them !!! We will also be in Greece during August, we will be looking forward to be meeting you!!! Your reporting background really gives a different texture to the videos! Friendly, informative, we are feeling like we are sitting there living your adventures with you as you are telling us about them..across the screen (it feels like it is over the table talking over a cool drink 🙂)...
Thank you Costas, we will look forward to talking with you for real over a cool drink!
Great video, looks like we need to keep our internal combustion outboard for a few more years……fault finding on those has over 100 years to draw on. The secluded bay look great, will have to venture further east along the Turkish coast one year.
It does, but in my experience you spend a LOT of your time drawing on that experience with petrol outboards, it’s still electric for me every time!
Nicely done! ✨🏆✨Congrats Lady Judy!💯🖖
Haha Dr Judy will do…..
@@judyaslett6209 👩🎓…but of course! 😳
Lekker man lekker 🇿🇦
Electronics and salt air, what could go wrong!
Congratulations on the PHD, Judy! What an achievement. As always, your videos are truly a treat. Both of your production and broadcast backgrounds surely shows through. We are considering an electric outboard, since our old workhorse has finally met with its demise. Thank you for showing some issues, given the "newness" of the engines, I do have concerns such as what you expereineced. Good to see such assistance from the company and distributors.
Judy has just sent me some pictures of her in a funny gown & hat from the ceremony yesterday, so I’ll put some in the next episode. I wouldn’t be concerned about reliability from ePropulsion if I were you, I think we were unlucky as there were no cases of anyone else having this problem on line, normally you find dozens of people with the same issue when you search something like that. Also you’ve only got to look at people around the anchorages struggling with petrol engines to see what a pain they can be!
Be sure to visit seagull bay and walk up the gentle hill to the historic site. Sail Safe Guys, Ant & Cid.
Seagull bay?
Well done on Phd!
Thank you!
Hi. My wife and İ have watched all your episodes and always enjoy them. We are from Scotland but have lived in Turkey since 2009. İ hope that you don't mind but İ want to correct your pronunciation of ''Gocek''. ''C'' in Turkish sounds like ''J'' whereas''Ç'' sounds like ''Ch''. So if you say it like it was spelled with a ''J'' i.e GOJEK it will be correct. Take care and keep making great videos .-)
congratulations Judy on your PhD !
Nice
Great videos from you guys as always a pleasure to watch. With reference your coms issue with the 3G. Have you looked into Spacex Starlink it looks good for remote access to broadband. 👍
Yes that’s definitely the future. They’ve switched on some of the mobile starlink stations already so hopefully the whole world will have good coms soon.
Congrats on the Ph. D. that is a great achievement.
thanks Louis.
Another wonderful episode. Thanks! And very well done with the PhD. I think you're both extremely brave to climb such a steep, rocky slope, but weren't you worried about snakes? 🪱😯 Thanks again!
Ha! Don’t give Judy something else to be scared of!
😊👍👍
That was a steep climb. I found myself holding my breath. Glad your ok.
Learned my lesson I think
@@judyaslett6209 Well you made it look easy! Blessings and joy on the adventure.
1:43, nice ;)
Thanks for showing us these beautiful locations. That looked like a scary drop! Lots of tradeoffs regarding dinghy selection. Wonder if a sun cover might help protect the electronics from possible damage from solar-heating ?
Marine environment is a hostile environment for electrics so Gold, copper & silver contacts build up a residue coating with if not cleaned will give false resistance readings even though the contacts look good. Normally clean contacts with a pencil rubber first, clean with paper tissue with spray cleaner and pull in out a couple of times to remove any leftover build up. There are some spray contact cleaners on the market for marine. Also printed circuit boards can develop high resistance joints which can be identified with an excellent quality magnifying glass. same thing can happen with computers
Honda four stroke would be good
Thanks for the video. I really like your hat (the one you almost lost) can you tell me the brand? I like the brim shape, good shading.
It’s a Tilly hat, it does have a chin strap too, should have had it on!
Have you considered a sail/row/motor dinghy? Sailing yacht Florence (RUclips) have a self (dad) built nesting Pram which looks amazing fun - and sails!
We often admire their (florence’s) dinghy. It is a thought but we love our true kit and it is very easy to lift onboard. We also now have plenty of options…
So with the pin all I do is to put it into my iPhone and then in the settings you can switch off the pin code, once you do it once then you can install it into your router
Arh! Okay I’ll have a go & see if that’s possible with this one, thanks.
Genius, it works! Thanks
@@svfairisle we are just gutted we didn’t see you when you were in Kas, we are currently in Kekova just chilling, we must have sailed past you when you were in Kas, we are very much running at a slower pace.
@@MrJudgementday99 Well enjoy Kekova it’s a lovely area. If you come back West you might catch us up as I’m currently stooging around Gocek while Judys back in the UK
I'm having trouble moving the bell ta all.
This episode makes me want to chat with you about the modular sailing/ paddling kayak trimaran kits I'm currently developing. It could be useful as a do it all tender. Would like your perspective.
Sounds interesting, any info on-line?
@@svfairisle not yet. I'm prototyping it now on my CNC machine. Production boats will be kits made from Marine okoume plywood with appropriate fiberglass, epoxy foam, rigging, and etc. My goal is to be selling them in spring time. I'll email you to continue a conversation.
I can't find the old video where you listed your email address. Please email me. My bus channel about page has one of my email addresses.

Would you be willing to give the cost to replace the E-motor ?
It was under guarantee
So would you still opt for an electric motor?
Oh yes. E-propulsion every time
What editing software do you use
Adobe Premiere pro
thanks !!!
Hi guys I'm sure that I seen your boat in Ceiba
Not sure where Ceiba is… we’re in Tomb bay, Gocek at the moment
@@svfairisle you came up on our AIS we left San Juan Puerto heading for the BVI
@@pippashaw8224 Ah well that’s a long way from Turkey where we are now! We should be that way in a year or two.
Go electric they said ^^
What's the PhD in?
Making effective films to support the campaign to end female genital mutilation. I made the film and did the research in The Gambia
@@judyaslett6209 That can't have been easy. Well done.
