Old time hockey...blood, stitches and a goalie without a mask....wow!

The Leafs were wearing that style of uniform the last time they won the Cup. It's a few years before my time(I was only five in 67;not that precocious) but a really sharp one. Have seen them in stores. They did revisit it a number of years ago and should again. When did the wrestling sign behind one goal first appear? Is that concrete bunker there, the one Ballard and Clancy used to sit in?

Nice to see a good old fashioned Donny brook with the sticks and gloves all over the place refs should have cut them loose and go at it and let them punch each other out.

It's odd that players were sent to the penalty box for coincidental minors in those days instead of going to the dressing room when there was only 1:10 remaining in the game.

Did either of these teams ever practice? What a sloppy game!

Pretty early in the season, and the Leafs had a struggling power play in those days. Early in the season teams are likely to be sloppier because they're getting used to playing together again. Also sometimes games are sloppy, no matter the year you can see teams passes just not clicking.

Most players back then did little to no off season training. They would lace up the skates on the first day of training camp for the first time in months. Many would come in badly out of shape and very rusty. And while I don't like to make comparisons between eras in sports...frankly the skill level back then was not what it is now. But I love to watch these game...it's the hockey of my youth.
