But Edward on the other hand...... These two find a lot of comfort in being "weird" together. Their chemistry is undeniable. They can learn a lot from each other. And it seems at times: They do.
yeah this is so wrong. oswald has not had a single neurotypical relationship. he constantly gets extremely attachted, similar to the obsessive kind of attachments people with bpd have. also oswald is literally incapable of being a normal citizen, he's bloodthirsty and extreme and hotheaded--and none of this is even touching on how he speaks, behaves, and dresses in a very morose and out-of-place style. ed, on the other hand, was able to pass a semi-normal (if socially inept) citizen for years until he snapped, and has been able to have several romantic relationships that had at least some level of reciprocation. oswald's never had this. the penguin as a character in ANY iteration is defined by his existence as an affront: an affront to society, humanity, respectability. as he said to bruce wayne in batman returns, "you're just jealous because i'm a true freak, and you have to wear a mask." i think this also applies to his relationship with ed: ed is very emotionally repressed where oswald is VERY MUCH not. i think oswald's certainty in his own freakishness and therefore in his identity is something ed envies to an extent, because while oswald is known and seen for what he is, a freak, ed constantly has to prove his identity, even to himself.
Ed may say whatever he wants but he is love with Oswald too. I mean the woman he just met, so claimed love of his live is murdered he gets revenge and then has yet another identity crisis with who he hallucinates? With IsabeLLA (about who he kinda forgot after shooting Oswald and never remembered again) NOPE he can’t stop thinking about The Penguin and that hallucination in which Oswald sings... you are kidding no one Nygma!!! No one! I mean both are obsessed with each other, they could win everything if they stoped behaving like kids I mean Gotham had some actual stability when they ruled it. As a crazy fan of Robin's penguin, I truly feel sad for what's penguin going through. He lost his mom, lost his dad, everybody wanted to take him down and kill him. After all these things happened the only one he could still love and trust is Ed, the person who helped him in his hardest period, Oswald cares so much about Ed and was even willing to do everything for him. And then we can see what Osawald've got. A women has ruined his relationship with Ed and i was heartbroken when i saw Ed pointing Oswald with a gun and telling him "I DON'T LOVE U." (eventhough i know it was not right to kill Isabella and in this case it was understandable for Ed's action). But i still feel sad, Oswald still love Ed so much even though Ed was really trying to kill him. BTW I really hate Ed/Lee i don't know why the writers created this couple in Season 4, it really makes me angry and terribe sad and i was thinking like that when i saw S4: So Ed's gonna get his new love and friends and have a happy life but Penguin still should fight by his own against Sofia and betrayal? NOOOOOOOOO!!!! Besides, Robin's performance is absolutely remarkable. His eyes tell everything to the audiance and I really don't wanna see Robin's Penguin gets hurt in the further story. How adorable he is!!!!!! I LOVE HIM SO MUCH SO PLZ GOTHAM WRITHERS LET HIM BE TOGETHER WITH ED/RIDDLER!!!!!!
So I like to think that the Riddler is the persona of Ed that feels for Penguin. While Ed himself takes in the friendship he has with Oswald because the Riddler in the end reaches out to Penguin to break him free when Ed is with Lee. He also brings up why their friendship remains to work after killing Penn. It's likely Ed will never get over Oswald's betrayal but the Riddler will still admire him.
