I saw this exact comment on the CLB review but it holds true here as well
Drake took a whole jar of Xanax into the studio and locked the door with the engineer and told that engineer, here eat two of these bars and get busy making me some beats, they proceeded to record the entire album on a Xanax blackout over a three day period and didn’t leave the room once. When they awoke, they had this masterpiece in front off them. The first thing the engineer said to drake was, “bro wtf happened? Where am I?” And drake just turned to him and said, honestly, nevermind.

I think Drake is just a brand. He doesn't seem like he's making music because he has something he wants to express, he's making music just to keep a new single in rotation constantly. It doesn't have to be good it just has to be catchy enough to score radio play until his next release.
This says a lot about the stans that eat it up.
And that's how you become one of the biggest artists of all time (Drake, Rihanna)

its crystal clear to me that either drake is too big to fail or he thinks he is too big to fail. He has coasted off of the success of previous albums for multiple albums and years now. He half asses his "albums" and treats them more like calculated products than actual art. The last time it felt like he legitimately put thought into an album was 2016 and even that is debatable. It baffles me how he is seemingly bulletproof despite putting out mid after mid after mid.
I think people who fucked with Drake up through 2016 have disconnected from him massively. The people bumping him now are too dumb too move on, or women.
Too many nut huggers my friend
Yup.
Last time he put in singles that feels like he put genuine effort into, or he felt actually warranted his perspective was around Views. Even then, that was a pretty middling record. Since then, he's just had stuff that exists for radioplay exclusively.
I think he thinks he’s too big to fail. The ego it must take for drake to put himself on a house beat and not be aware of how awful it sounds…
He is also supported by super big marketing and manipulated plays on spotify and every medium
I'm feeling a light to decent 1 on this album's existence

This is a prime example of an artist being bigger than their music. Business wise, they made it; they’re set. Artistically, it depends on them. But for Drake, I believe it’s more business than art nowadays. When an artist is bigger than their music, it doesn’t matter what they release (good or bad) because the fact that is has their name on it it’ll sell no matter what. Drakes been knowing this for a few years now that’s why he releases subpar music compared to his earlier work. There’s no incentive for him to release high quality because people will buy it anyways. I doubt will ever see a take care or if your reading this… quality releases again because there’s no incentive for him to put that much effort in it.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Honestly, Nevermind. The lyrics are extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of Rhyme schemes and wordplay most of the punchlines will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Drake's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his songs- his personal philosophy draws heavily from 2pac and Bigge style, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these songs, to realize that they're not just lit- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Honestly, Nevermind truly ARE idiots. of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Drake's existencial catchphrase "Your pussy is callin' my name, So come on, baby, let's stop playing games" which itself is a cryptic reference to Bigg's song Drownin'. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Drake's genius worldplay unfolds itself on their headphones. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have a Honestly, Nevermind tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

Ive been listening to house and drake both for a while and yeah this is garbage. Totally missed the mark as an even decent house project and definitely is just low quality as a drake/rap album as well. You couldn’t have given a better review. I’m convinced that Drake could make a project as good as The Weeknd’s last few projects. Sure, his vocals wouldn’t compare to Abel, but he has every resource in the world for songwriting and production. I really feel like he threw this album together in a couple week.
I know what you mean, but there have been great albums put together in a couple weeks or less.
Idk if he could. Not now fs
Who’s here after drake leaked the DM’s 😂
if he had called it “honestly, megamind” it would have been a 10
amazing comment
honestly, melonmind is better
As a guy who listens to electronic music, the defence of this album that many people have ((ehm it's dance music you don't get it)) is enough to make my eyeballs turn all the way around and see my brain
Great album
no, that's exactly what it is. It is very minimal house music that hiphop heads don't understand. It falls in the realm of LoFi House particularly, which is purposely under produced and makes sense because they had Alex Lustig produce a few of the songs.
@@cedricdavis513 yeah it's totally lo-fi house based on. However, young djs in their bedrooms are making way better of this style since the whole last decade. e.g: dj poolboi, ross from friends, mall grab, dj aedidias, etc
@@cedricdavis513 lofi means low-fidelity, not low-effort

what i found particularly telling was drake publicly responding to the negative criticism this project was receiving by saying things to the effect of “we’re waiting for u to catch up … it’ll make sense later” it’s a defense of his music in a way i’ve never seen him project. i mean: did he say these sort of things after his albums were well-received? this is the nearest thing to acknowledging failure i think we would ever get out of him, and maybe, privately, it’s taken him aback, and reminded him that as an artist he won’t always be infallibly loved all the time. i’d give him the benefit of doubt that he won’t be revisiting this type of product (at least with the same low-effort) for a while
He’s said this type of thing before. In his song “Wants and Needs” he had a line that goes “Come with a classic, they come around years later and say it's a sleeper” where he was referring to his album “Views”
Hes right though....alot of people ripping on this album....don't have very good critiques. There is very little depth to them and many fail to be able to explain that the even understand what this album is going for. Bet in 20 years this will be considered a classic.
@@kazyink7187 hey, maybe ur right! often times classics are misunderstood initially. i may disagree, but i’m willing to check back in 20 years lol
Where did he say that? I didn’t know he had addressed the criticism at all
@@kazyink7187 what is the album going for?
Imagine if drake sees this and DM’s you, that would be crazy
impossible to tell he’s sitting in this video
Moaning “Falling Back on me” for 6 minutes doesn’t count as a review Anthony, that’s what you call a forward thinking art piece from the mind of a house savant
@Jesus Gonzalez Cb hasnt gotten face tats in a couple years his last one was actually just the name of his previous album. Is he supposed have an elaborate reason as to why he gets them or something? It’s weird you bring him up in comparison to drake anyways. Id say jack harlow is a better comparison. Soulless, boring, and uninspired microwave music that’s only made to get radio plays and nothing more.

You know what really sucks? I don’t care about Drake, or really the genre, but even I could tell (after listening to bits of it) that there was *potential* in this album.
The instrumentation? The beats? They were actually kinda good! Even the squeaky beat wasn’t horrible! But then Drake just... mumbles over them. Murmurs over them.
Is it me not understanding the genre he’s pulling from, or is there really just a mile wild disconnect between the instrumentation and the vocals, where Drake just refused to put *anything* with any energy or effort on the album?
The video that launched a thousand DMs.
crazy part is Drake actually responded well to critiques of his music back in the day, NWTS was a direct response to some of the narratives regarding his output and he came back with the best album of 2013 (in my opinion).
an overall combination of complacency, insane success, yes men, and a fanbase that treats listening to their music as a personality trait, and Drake is officially in the same tier as U2, Nickelback, and Flo Rida in terms of massively successful artists with mediocre & passive music that you hear everywhere but remember nowhere.
also, new school rappers NOT having his level of professionalism (they landing in wooden & metal boxes more and more nowadays) & several of his peers veering into mediocrity, and Drake straight up has no incentive to try. Until a new rapper can outsell him & play the PR game at the same time, we’re stuck with his music being in a stasis that will never evolve.
Wow I rly agree. What truly fascinates me is like what could actually make him lose relevancy and sales? His music is so beyond passionless and yet his numbers continue to grow. Atp I don’t think drake will truly ever have a career decline, I think he’ll just get older and retire instead
I totally agree and for one of the most successful artists making dogshit these days compared to 2011-2015. It kinda makes me sad seeing someone being too powerful to fail and knowing they can produce literally anything and still be "successful".
W take ngl
Bruh don't do U2 like that
That's a bit disrespectful to U2 I feel. They're more legit than the other artists you mentioned.
As the spoof Tim Cook from CollegeHumor once said, "I mean have you heard Joshua Tree?"
I just think it's funny how a lot of people say that "You won't get this album because it's house/dance music" because it's obvious that they're the same people who trash on dance music when their favorite rapper isn't singing on it
its all people who listen to trap/rnb trying to ascertain what dance music is all of a sudden because drake is doing it
This, this, this!! What percentage of Drake fans actually listen to house music? It’s cool now to them bc Drake is doing it (or trying to) but doubt many were checking for it before.
I love house music and can say that most of the beats were chill, common things I'd listen too, but how he delivered his vocals and just overall what he did with his voice was awful. Absolutely awful on quite a few tracks, while others were pretty okay.
Drake should have spent so much more time fleshing this out but instead we got an album with half-assed singing and he wasn't even on beat for a lot of it either! He sounded as if he was just rambling on a few songs, and on others he just couldn't hit notes right, kind of dissapointing if I'm honest, I'd have loved another record akin to "One Dance"
How did you come to that conclusion lol you just made that up
@@chillintwentyfoursev honestly, the replies explained what I'm trying to say better than i did, so you can just refer to them
Album needed features. He couldn’t carry the album with his voice alone. I just can’t help to feel he came short with these dance songs. Especially when I love his previous dance tracks.
it did have one feature 😂
