  • It's been a journey. But thankfully, I think we are on the other side...
Thank you for being patient with me while we worked through this, and found the words to share with you all.
A reminder to listen to your body.
    Be your own health advocate.
and when something feels off, don't be afraid to get it checked.
To the moms and dads out there with a sick child...
I feel you. the waiting, the unsaid, the unknown... and maybe then the known.
I'm sorry. No kid should ever be sick. No parent should ever have to feel this pain.
And to the health care professionals...
thank you. you are seen... and appreciated... and loved.
and I'm sorry you aren't told this enough.

As a RN of 31 years, I had to leave the ER…Though I never got covid……it destroyed me…watching people suffocate took its toll. I’m so sad because I love being a nurse and I know I made a difference…I’m so sad that I had to leave the ER…So thank you Sandi for the thanks…it means a lot. Glad your Jess is ok too! As someone living with a nurse in the household, it's a scary thing. They work in a more detached setting thankfully.
We hear this said for cops, military, and emergency service people, but you don't hear that much for nurse and medical professionals (more since COVID started, but still).

I didn’t catch COVID (🤞) but I broke my wrist and needed surgery in June, 2020 and got shingles in Dec, 2020 and I really appreciated the compassion every health care worker showed me. It wasn’t a fun year for me, so many had it so much worse, but the 100 little (and big!) acts of kindness helped me tremendously. So understandable that folks are burning out, the demand and the need has been overwhelming.
Thank you for everything you do, you make a big difference ❣️🇨🇦

I am 59 and 6 years ago my mom was in her final days of parkinson's. I was tired, emotionally exhausted and not eating. I collapsed and ended up in the hospital, my blood pressure went down to 63/28. My husband called my parents to let them know and my mother got out of bed to come to the hospital. I don't know how she did it, but she said her baby needed her. She hadn't been out of bed in awhile, but mothers and their children, always win. Sadly she died a few weeks later, but the strength she showed, going to the hospital, reminded me of the mom I had before parkinson.
Take care Jessica, you're amazing and come from good people.

He was doing well as far transplants. He got sick in December 2019 and in January 2020 he got sick on top of it with another illness which started that morning. He coded on me that afternoon in route to hospital. I started CPR. He did not make it. He died on January 19. I miss him everyday.

Sandy, as a nurse for 31 years I have worked in many different parts of the healthcare system, from ER to ICU trauma. I have worked with all ages. It matters not what age a parent is, when it comes to your child it's so darn scary. I have been on both sides, but it's heart wrenching to watch parents go through the powerful emotions when everything feels out of control. We try very hard as nurses and healthcare workers to make that process as bearable as possible. Many times the outcome is great but in my career I have lost many who are someone's child. I have cried my way home more then once. I hug my kids extra hard somedays. I am very happy to hear that Jess is on the mend. Thank you for the kind words about our profession, it's been a very hard time with Covid. But this is why I have Sandy time! My peace and joy I feel like I share with you, your family, and your community. Merry Christmas!

Thank you so much for all that you nurses and health workers do! You guys are the underdogs and truly some of the very best heroes. I can remember so many nights being alone and scared in the hospital when my parents needed a break and my nurses were the only people who could comfort me. From taking an extra few moments out of your shift to come say hello or to come back and bring a midnight snack because I missed dinner from being so out of it, to helping with some crazy embarrassing situations lol you nurses are truly heaven sent. I'm quite sickly and have had way too many hospital stays sometimes for months at a time and you guys truly become a friend and someone to laugh with and a shoulder to cry on and someone to express your emotions and feelings with. Thank you, thank you, thank you for all that you do☺️💕

Sandi, you just made allllllllllll my memories come flooding back from when I found out I had a brain tumor. I went to the Dr alone. I drove myself there. I was stoic as can be. I got to the car and broke down. I beat my steering wheel up. I wiped those tears away and drove myself home. On the way, a van full of senior citizens blew a stop sign in front of me and in my haze, I managed to slam on those brakes and stop within an inch. It was at that moment I knew, I was NOT going to die. No matter what. I was NOT going to die. I came very close waiting for surgery. I was told maybe 2 weeks left, but that was 6 years ago. I come from a long line of strong women, and I know, the ones who have passed, were there protecting me. Jess is the same. She WILL live to be a grandmother herself. She comes from a long line of strong women. Now, I gotta go get my angry face on again instead of these tears. For Jess. For you. The mess in the kitchen from last nights cookies that were an epic fail is awaiting me... P.S. God Got ya.

From one mother the another I see you and your pain and fear and know that your baby and your family are in my prayers.

Sandy, as a nurse and a small farmer the emotions can be similar as I love my animals and hate to see then sick, Hate seeing my kiddos sick, when they were young and now as adult. As a nurse I am thankful I decided to help those who are not feeling well and provide treatment and emotional support. All three jobs,-momma, farmer and nurse are such an honor and emotional roller coaster but thankful God has allowed me to ride along with HIM. (hope this makes sense). You are an amazing women giving back to all of us in the form of food to eat, Farmers are never given enough credit. You are loved as I feel like you are a dear friend and I have learned lots from you in the small animal industry. Prayers continue for Jess as she heals and the whole family. God bless!!

That’s a scary one, so glad Jess pulled through and she had such loving and awesome support 💛
Had a few scares myself in the last 6 months and had to move back in with my parents at 30 because living alone wasn’t safe for me due to a condition that’s been causing me to be in constant pain/ vertigo and pass out up to 20x weekly. Honestly not sure if I’d be here without their support, I felt so silly asking my mom to come with me when the first bad tests came back and the doctor said we needed to talk. I saw how hard it was for her but she just hugged me and said “I love you, you never stop being a parent, we’ll get through this.” My dad is a little more reserved about his emotions, but drives me to all my appointments and encourages me to keep going. I am eternally grateful for my parents support, I’m sure Jess is too 💛
Still hauling the long road to full diagnosis and recovery, but the most likely cause and surgeries won’t be a cake walk. I cannot put into words how much your videos mean to me because they give me something to look forward to and ground myself with in all the waiting rooms. Keep being the amazingly kind, hardworking, and empathetic human you are!
EDIT: I never expected such an outpouring of support from this comment. Thank you all for your kindness, thoughts and prayers. May you and yours all have a happy and healthy holiday season! 💛

So, as I dry my eyes and take a shuddering breath, know that I know. As a nurse who struggled with severe health issues all through nursing school, then a Nurse that eventually became a full time patient ( had to retire due to being diagnosed with several genetic disorders and severe endometriosis, to then at one of my weakest points, became A MOTHER TO A SICK CHILD ( he was diagnosed with MY GENETIC DISORDER 😭😭😭-absolutely devastating guilt) watching my 12 year old son be bedridden in constant pain and hardly leave his room for 18 MONTHS, I see you. He’s 20 now and it’s been an excruciating road but he’s able to function more normally now ( not completely normally unfortunately, there is no cure for what we have, nor a real good treatment plan.) When he got sick, a part of my soul just curled up and went dark.To be sick myself was hard but to watch him suffer….knowing his pain acutely….was, is still, almost too much to bare at times. From one mom to another who know this pain, I am crying for you. I hope and pray that Jess recovers fully, and her pain is gone for good. And I am sending so much love to you Sandi, because I know. I read a lot of the comments on each of Sandi’s videos and I have to say yours touched me deeply. I have one child, a daughter, who is now 16. I planned on having 3 children at the very least but my own health tanked more and more each year so I was only blessed with my one precious baby. I can’t even begin to imagine what you have gone through and continue to go through watching your son suffer like you have!!😟 Especially because you know the suffering intimately and know how painful it truly is! That must be pure agony and I’m SOO sorry you guys go through that! I do want to say this though ….I don’t know wether or not you chose to have children while aware of the risk of passing along your diagnoses but even if you did and regret it now, I can promise you that punishing yourself with that guilt and regret and self-loathing and letting it grow and fester will not ever produce positive outcomes! For your spirit OR your son’s! So if you’re feeling in any way guilty for passing this along it’s time to forgive yourself(if that’s what is needed inside of you)and let go of all the “if only’s” and “if I could go back’s”! Give yourself a break for being human(which generally translates as “selfish”), leave your shame/guilt/regret at the foot of the cross, for Jesus is far more capable of handling our negative emotions than we are, and be set free! Free to love your son AND yourself uninhibited by any negative feelings about past choices! I’d be willing to bet your son has said there’s nothing to forgive and has probably even thanked you for giving him life a time or two! So if you ARE harboring feelings of un-forgiveness for yourself it’s ok to let them go now.😮‍💨😪😌
Maybe this doesn’t apply to you at all; maybe I’m way off base here but I just felt like I was supposed to tell you that. God bless you, Cyndi, and your family!!!
P.S. I lost my own mom when we got in a bad car accident when I was 7 and her name was Cindy(Cynthia) too!✝️💟

Your beautiful heartfelt words to Cynthia (or cindy) made me cry . I lost my son 10 days before his 33rd birthday! In a little over a week it will be 4 years since he passed. He was an amazing son talented at all he did . He had a huge heart and I miss him every single minute of every single day . You're not supposed to lose and bury your child it is supposed to be the other way but signing his death certificate Damm near broke me. His father and I aren't together yet we've talked about him . My ex husband told me he can't stop thinking about him . We both have alot of guilt about did we do the right thing . My ex felt he turned his back on him and regrets it deeply . But our son understood his dad and felt he failed his dad. I wish with all if my heart not to have lost my child he's the 2nd child I've lost the 2nd was a little girl who had neural tube disorder and no one ever explained to me she could be born dead .I was devastated. I remember feeling her struggling and kept begging the doctor to do a c section so she didn't have to fight to be born .39 hours of labor and she passed 6 hours b4 she was born . Not too many people understand what I feel but I pray my son and daughter are together in heaven waiting for me to breathe my last breath !
Sorry for that but I really wanted to thank you for your beautiful words to another mother who definitely seems to carry around guilt that only eats at your soul so God bless you for your kindness to her .

The doctor said if they would have waited another day, I would not be here. I have also been in two car incidents that could have been fatal. Also, in 2019 before all the world collapsed, I ended back in hospital in critical.I pulled through three weeks later, just as the toilet paper crisis hit. My main thought was, before hospital I was about out at home and needed some. Life doesn't always go as planned, but it is amazing what we all can go through and survive. Thank you for your words of praise for the medical community also. Sometimes as patients/family, we forget that they are people too and that they hurt right along with us while they seek the healing we need.

I love you and your family so much! Big hugs!! When I was 17 my family had a similar experience. I went in for abdominal pain. After many tests and finally an ultrasound they called me to come in the day they reviewed all the results. Emergency surgery scheduled the next morning to remove the tumor. I experienced a lot of physical pain over the course of a week but my emotional state was very detached.
Now that I am a mother myself, I look back on the 2 weeks full of testing leading up to my surgery and the aftermath. All I can remember is the terror and pure exhaustion written all over my mom’s face. She tried to hide it, of course, but I can only imagine the emotions that ripped through her.
My heart aches for you as a mother and experiencing that helplessness of not being able to protect your baby from everything possible. Remember that our babies are stronger than we will ever know. We taught them how to do that, momma. My body remembers the pain and I hope that it passes quickly for Jess as well. It will be a distant memory in no time. Take care of yourselves.
    Love from Ohio🥰

Sandi, speaking as a retired healthcare professional, I agree with what you’ve said. Sometimes it is the most frustrating thing not knowing what is going on and as a result having limited options as to what the best course of action to take. Emotionally, your clinical judgement is affected and one needs to put emotions aside to calmly, rationally think through the situation and direct appropriate actions towards a good outcome.
Good to hear Jess is doing better. Make sure she is taking her medications properly and, if any unusual occurs, talk to your community pharmacist about the situation with a mutually respectful dialog. They will be able to offer suggestions as how to deal with issues. Pharmacists are a good resource when used well along with other members of the health care team.
On the sheep front, I see a lot of things happening, mostly good. Sandi, I would prescribe daily quality time with your sheep, lambs especially. If Jess is feeling better and there are no contraindications, have her feed some of the bottle babies while you and Carissa do other chores. Merry Sheepmas!

I am so happy to hear that she is on the mend and I will pray for you guys to keeping chugging along and that things will be a bit smoother for a while. Love you guys lots! 🙏🏻❤️

Sandy I literally just went through the same type of scare, worry and then breathing again. My worst and best were 8 days apart. So I see and feel for all of you. It affects the whole family when someone we love is sick. And it's always great to be able to walk away saying, that was close, but here we are. Sending love and prayers from Indiana U.S.A ⛄🤍🎄

I get where Jess is coming from. I had emergency or fairly urgent surgery three times as a teen, and the third one was exploratory because they couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me or why I was in pain. The pain gets to a point where you just kind of go “I don’t care what they do to me; I don’t care how many needles they poke me with; I just need this pain to stop.” But having your mom or dad there is really nice. Having somebody to bring you toast or a heating pad or your pain meds when you just can’t drag yourself out of bed after surgery is very nice. And having someone to sit with you and hold your hand before you go back for surgery and you’re feeling so nervous is also really nice. I can’t imagine what my mom went through during all of that. The multiple ER trips, doctors’ visits, sitting in a hospital waiting room. But I’m glad she was there and I’m sure Jess is glad you and Mark were there too.

So thankful that Jess is improving but continued prayers for healing, for comfort for all of you and for her doctors and caregivers to continue to give you the hope and answers you need. Prayers for healing for Jess...it's Thursday and my 32 yr old son just had a horrible seizure and fell back and hit his head on the counter... I managed to move his head away from hitting anything else and he has recovered but it's hard to see our babies (no matter what age) be in pain and illness...😢 God bless you all 💗

I’m so glad that Jess is recovering at home with family. As the “sick kid” in the family, I know it was tough on my mom. Jess is in my prayer for a speedy recovery and that she doesn’t get sick again. So much love. Bring her home a lamb to cuddle with! :) (kidding of course.)
    Unless it helps!

No words, I'm just glad everything is on the upside! I just left my job of 8 years in the gift shop of a hospital, and I made a lot of friends with staff, got to be involved in helping nurses surprise patients who were alone with birthday, I even handmade a bouquet from what flowers we had for a wedding of a hospice patient. Not nearly enough people have the recognition for the healthcare workers, that you do, so thank you for that. The amount of hours and heartbreak they go through on the daily.. I can't do it, thier conviction is much stronger than mine. They are also much better at understanding that fear and worry manifests in many ways, and sometimes staff is caught in the crossfire, where as I would beat myself up over it, if I was in thier shoes. Blessings from Northern Indiana, looking forward to the next update.

Dear Sandi, I cried listening to poor Jess's story, and glad to hear she on the mend. I'm 58y/o and have a 28y/o son with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis CFS and has become very server where he is bed-bound since Feb. My hubby and I take turns with his daily care. There are days he is so severe and sensitive to light and sound, I can only whisper softly questions he can nod yes or no. And yes it doesn't matter how old your child is....I cry a lot to. I found you right after my son became bed-bound , what a blessing you have may in my life! I am also horse crazy and take care of a small farm, I love to see the farm side with the big machinery in action too. I start my day at 5am to feed horses and get home for my son's needs, my favorite part of the day is to watch your vlog with a cup of coffee . Your honesty and hard work for your sheep and family is what draws us to watch your channel. Stay strong and Merry Christmas.

Sitting beside our kids in hospital watching them in pain is so excruciatingly hard. I have 3 kids, all have chronic medical conditions. I have handed them into the care of surgeons 53 times, with another booked within the next 2 months. I have spent weeks at a time sitting and sleeping beside them in hospital.
No matter how old they a re, they will always be your baby. My eldest is 20yo and had her first baby 2 weeks ago, i spent 2 nights in hospital with her and grandson helping care for them.
I pray Jess fully recovers and you get the news from surgeons that everything is ok. You are an amazing mum Sandi

My husband spent 20 days in the hospital in ICU with pneumonia. The first 5 days were touch and go. I thank God every day for the nurses who were there for him during the dark days. Due to Covid protocols, I wasn't even allowed in the hospital to see him through the glass doors. The nurses were literal lifesavers as he was ready to leave AMA to come home to die. They talked him down and convinced him he was only going home to live. Nurses are so very underappreciated.
