I come from the future, non of this songs has been a dark horse at eurovision 2021, but surprisingly Moldova🇲🇩 has been a dark horse, even though people thought it was going to be a borderline qualifier it ended up in a really decent 13th place
The term "dark horse" has been so overused and misused, ever since all of this year's songs started pouring in. It seems EVERYONE is potentially a dark horse to anyone. So, who isn't?!
she did a live performance on a late night talk show in Ireland but it looked like there was a lot of playback! But she sounded pretty good on it, and hopefully they can fix the issue of the production being louder than her voice. But i agree, I think Ireland will either not qualify (just barely) or do very very well in the final
@@jackodonovan7560 yes but I’ve done some digging around predictions and 85% of the predictions combined show that 🇲🇹🇨🇾🇱🇹🇷🇴🇸🇪🇦🇿🇮🇪🇭🇷🇺🇦🇷🇺 are the 10 favourites to qualify. We’re in with a COLOSSAL chance to qualify in May 🇮🇪
YES, finally someone who agrees with me on Technicolour! I absolutely love the song, it's got a really unique sound in the competition and a great energy, and I really do hope that it qualifies to the final, I think it's deserved! I agree with pretty much the entirety of your list, actually! I enjoy Russia, Czech Republic and Ireland's entries a lot too, so let's keep our fingers crossed they do well.
Ireland is not a dark horse for me honestly, I am sure Lesley will slay this year. The song is just so pure and magical and it makes you really appreciate the little things.
I agree with your list, but I want to add Norway, Spain and Albania. Norway is a grower with an incredibly catchy tune, Spain is a very moving ballad (if you know the meaning and backstory of the song) and Albania is one of the best ethnic song of the year. Other than that, I also see Belgium in jury's top 5 and finished top 10 overall. The same with Germany, but with televotes support instead of jury.
i do not think that norway will score high, people think it is just a depressed heart break song and THAT breaks my heart. i learn norwegian and follow TIX on his socials, he does deserve it, but i do not think it will score high.
I think Norway has pretty big dark horse potential this year, too. If they do a good performance and TIX delivers an emotional performance, it’s gonna stand out between all the uptempo bops. Also, it’s a polarizing entry - most people either love or hate it - and that usually helps because people are more likely to vote for a song that they like if they think/know is hated by lots of people (not supported by actual data, but I firmly believe this). The same thing goes for the German entry, too, so I have to agree with you on that :)
yes agree completely. i was gutted monument lost. I've had time to lick my wounds and accept that Norway could easily qualify and do well. it's a fine song and the dude is a pro and has a story - all good yup. 👍🇳🇴

The problem - weirdness of song, it is a little bit messy and some people might not understand the message, but she can collect jury votes, and even televoting votes!:D Her song is interesting, and memorable. Israel (9/10) She has a good, creative song. However, 1 semi is hard, and I have doubts on her qualification. But, she will have a revamp, so everything still can change. Serbia (9/10) Catchy song, really makes you fun, and it can collect votes from televoters. But I don’t know what juries will give to Serbia. They may lowball Hurricane:(
Love this video Shane. I agree with most of your calls, with the exception of Australia. I'm just not connecting with it. Totally support your views vis a vis Belgium, Czech Republic and Ireland. I see all 3 qualifying.....well 🤞🤞🤞 anyway!!
The real dark horse of this year is Portugal. Love Is On My Side is a high quality song with a great production and deep lyrics. It will do very well with the national juries who will recognise the quality of the song and performance.
I really hope you're right, because I actually love Portugal this year! And I feel like semi final 2 is the semi which could have some surprise qualifiers, so let's hope Portugal is one of them!
I 100% agree with you on Ireland. I'm blown away by how much I like it, how universal it is, and it's just uplifting and nice. Germany and UK are also at the top of my list. But... Belgium and Australia are still NQs for me. They're both missing something I can't put my finger on. At the same time, I hope I'm wrong!

Two of my favorites this year are Slovenia and Poland, but they nearly have no chance of qualifying this year, not even talking about winning. For me the dark horses this year are Croatia and Ireland, and maybe even Portugal.
MAPS is my favourite to win this year. My top 5 are Ireland, San Marino, Greece, Azerbaijan and Germany in that order. Ireland DOMINATATED the 90s, and it's time for them to hit the 2020's running strong! Darkhorse wise, I agree with many above, but I personally think Montaigne's vocals for "Technicolour" are weak. The song is catchy, but ultimately a bit overrated in my opinion. I feel the same way for "Discoteque" by the Roop and Dadi's "10 Years."
I'm pretty sure Ireland wont flop imo I'm irish and from the home concerts and the live performance on the late late show it was pretty bad vocally but I think she has improved and they have the person who did heros staging doing are staging so the people who are saying ireland staging will be bad are just not a fan of the song and pretending to be a fan of the song
I absolutely love Maps I really hope she will qualify, she’s way better than potential winners like Lithuania or Iceland in my opinion 3th place in my personal rating.
My opinion: Potential dark horses: 🇩🇰: It will perform last and also remind the older audience about the '80s, and evoke a feeling of nostalgia. And it is good that the sad ballad of Switzerland is coming before, which creates contrast. Don't be surprised if this pulls a San Marino 2019 (near 10th in televote in the final). 🇷🇺: Televoters are gonna love this (top 5 in final), but juries won't (bottom 5). I still believe this has top 15 potential, but it will be very outstanding live. 🇦🇱: Sacha Jean Baptiste will stage this + juries will appreciate Anxhela's vocals. It might as well stand out between two calm songs in the semifinal 🇵🇱: This has great staging potential. Given that, and that Rafał serves, this could surprise everybody in a similar way to Belarus 2014. 🇩🇪: This will attract "fun" votes, but juries may give this zero points. It is hard to predict where this will end up. 🇲🇰: It's not a joke. If this is staged flawlessly and Vasil gives an emotional performance a Croatia 2017 deja vù is likely. 🇧🇪: Staging is a significant factor here as well. Juries will go behind it, and given how famous the band is I believe nothing can stop Belgium from aiming high. 🇦🇺: As mentioned in the video, this is a lot different than anything Eurovision has heard as of now. If Montaigne performs it well, televoters may get into it. Juries will find it weird though. But since it is Australia, it could be the other way round. 🇬🇷: It has one of the most powerful choruses of the year, and if Fokas Evaggelinos does something incredible on stage Greece could be a contender for a top 10 result. 🇲🇩: A Maruv-like performance is what this song was made for. And as history has shown, slutty bangers always succeed in televoting. Juries are a mystery though. Definite dark horses: 🇨🇿: Benny is a gifted performer, and the song is very current and radio-friendly. I can't see why this can't do well in both televoting and juries. A top 10 result is realistic. Watch out. 🇷🇴: Mark my words. If the performance is in the same style as the music video, this will go straight to top 5. Few other songs have an equally strong message as this, and the way it is conveyed will be remembered by many people. And it is jury-friendly too. Roxen will do her best, I'm sure about that. I'll come back to this after the grand final.
Thiiis! I'm so in love with Technicolour. So catchy, fun and great lyrics. And The Worng Place is just quality, there is no way Belgium is not qualifying.
I think about it just now, but we have Australia, Azerbaijan, Sweden, Ukraine, Russia and Cyprus in the same semi final, who combined only 2 elimination in the semi final since 2015. Cyprus, Australia and Sweden participated in the 6 next final. It's gonna be a bloodbath, this semi one
dont forget Norway: Since 2011, they have not qualified just once (2016), finished among the top 10 five times (2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2019), won their semi (2018), and got the most points from the televoters in 2019. Norway is also predicted by the bookies to do quite well. From that record, Norway is a bigger competitor than both Azerbaijan and Cyprus.
Ooo-ooo I became your "like no. 666". Implication: El Diablo wins ;) Valid points for why these 7 may be dark horses in this competition. Enjoyed your video a lot :)
Australia, Czech and Germany are one of the worst songs imo, guess taste is different. I believe you forgot one dark horse, which is Portugal. It is a good song and I think if they manage to get through it will actually get decent points.
Mazinha and Mountaigne will surely get a good position. They have good live performances and, although at first their songs are strange, they are very powerful and over time they become more appreciated. The German song, although I don't like it at all, I also think that it will win a good position due to the popular vote. The rest of the proposed songs, although they are good (especially Ireland), I think they can go unnoticed. Finally, I believe that Ukraine, Romania, Portugal and Moldova are going to get a high position and, on the contrary, Italy and France are not going to be in the first places.
I agree with you but i want to add slovenia. That woman has an incredible voice and that song has such a strong meaning. A lot of people dont like it cause the video is boring and she seems to have a lack of emotion. But I think she will surprise us all
I think it means that an artist or song is underrated, but will actually do better than everybody thinks it will do.. therefore being the “dark horse” in the background but the ends up on top in the end in the spotlight!
It means the singers or songs that might surprise people the most and become a success unexpectedly. For example, the year the Conchita Wurst won, the dark horse was 'The Calm Before The Storm'. It literally came from nowhere to take second place on the night. Another example would be Michael Szpack of Poland. A dark horse is someone that people are sleeping on and underrated hugely, but had the potential to surprise everyone and perform better than expected.
My prediction for dark horses 1.Belgium ( I see Belgium in TOP 10 in final). 2.Australia ( many predict to Austrlalia maybe stay in semi, but I see this song in final on left scoreboard prediction 10-13 place) 3.Latvia (maybe be surprise like Latvia 2015, same composer ) 4.Croatia (with good staging and vocals , I can see Croatia in Top 10 , first time after 20 years) 5.Austria (can be surprise like Austria 2017,2018 thanks to juries) 6.Denmark ( I see Denmark in final in TOP 15, prediction from 12 to 15 place)
That none of your lists have either Ukraine, Finland or Italy in them is in my opinion quite baffling. Ok, we get it, you don't like music that's not mainstream. Because that's what all the songs you listed (except Russia maybe) are.
i have to agree with this list..also i am happy what you said about my country (Czech Republic) benny is on czech music scene for more than 10 years and one think i realy know about him is that he is the live performer and he can slay this live ..he is able to sell his own performance i thin that bookies realy sleep of czech republic this year ..if benny strikes our personal record from 2018 ( 6th place in final with Mikolas Josef) it wasnt be a suprise for me .

I absolutely love Maps I really hope she will qualify, she’s way better than potential winners like Lithuania or Iceland in my opinion 3th place in my personal rating.
Oh boy, did this video age poorly
I'd be very happy if Lesley and Ireland won! 🇮🇪
Same my winner ❤️
If you watch the official results upside down Ireland is third! 😄😄
I love Belgium so much🇧🇪❤
IT's in my top 5.
Slovenia and Denmark will be Top 10 in the juries. Come back here in a couple of months and see :-)
My opinion:
Potential dark horses:
🇩🇰: It will perform last and also remind the older audience about the '80s, and evoke a feeling of nostalgia.
It might as well stand out between two calm songs in the semifinal
🇵🇱: This has great staging potential.
Definite dark horses:
🇨🇿: Benny is a gifted performer, and the song is very current and radio-friendly.
Also, countries which I expect to do worse than predicted are: 🇦🇿🇺🇦🇸🇲🇷🇸🇲🇹🇮🇹
Really hope you’re right about Ireland, it needs to be in the final ! I don’t see Australia making it unfortunately even though I really like the song
I think Hurricane who are like 30 in odds will be the dark horse before all of these
they will stay in the semi final
Ireland, Czechia and the UK will be successful for sure. Even though I'm not a biggest fan of them.
In my opinion Israel will be a dark horse too
Portugal 🇵🇹
I hope Slovenia will be a dark horse this year. It is in my top 5 🇸🇮❤️
Germany and Slovenia are my dark horses. I hope you're right about the UK too.
Belgium 🇧🇪 and Australia🇦🇺😍😍
I think Czech Republic is definitely a dark horse! I am not sure by the other songs on your list but I think Slovenia is a dark horse too.
What a shame that Ireland, Czech Republic and Australia didn’t make it into the final...
You have forgot about Croatia! This is a darkhorse for me!
For me too Croatia ! :)
Australia, Czech and Germany are one of the worst songs imo, guess taste is different. I believe you forgot one dark horse, which is Portugal. It is a good song and I think if they manage to get through it will actually get decent points.
Imo Norway will be the biggest dark horse this year. Other dark horses may be Ireland, Latvia and Germany
Croatia is a big dark horse I think
Agree with Ireland and Russia!
Since when Embers is a darkhorse? To me is such a bop and is in my top 10 since I first heard it.
reading this comment with hindsight hurts, I am so sorry
I agree with you but i want to add slovenia. That woman has an incredible voice and that song has such a strong meaning. A lot of people dont like it cause the video is boring and she seems to have a lack of emotion. But I think she will surprise us all
Portugal is obvious the big dark horse of this year
Of course, of course, together with Spain. they always will be and I don't know why they don't have bad songs or singers lately (with exceptions)
As time is moving closer to opening night, Ireland is gaining serious traction online 🤞🤞🤞 for #Dublin2022 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
Feel good, up-lifting songs will be the trend this year as the world in a dark somber mood.
Surely PORTUGAL is dark horse, with Love Is On My Side. 🇵🇹 🇵🇹 Czech Republic and Slovenia as well.
no Portugal is awful, far from a dark horse
@@joeswift6362 This' your private opinion, must keep it for yourself.
@@joeswift6362 grow up troll!
"Best UK entry".... LOL
Belgium 🇧🇪 is my favourite in this year 😍😙🙌🏻 I hope they will go to the final 🍀
I love Belgian and austria. Amazing songs
Albania and Croatia are my dark horses 😍
Albania is nice but Croatia not so much
Croatia rulez! :)
I think that Ukraine will be a dark horse too...
Belgium is the ultimate dark horse!🇧🇪 Even here in the comments almost no one mentions them! Still they qualified so proud!
Guys i've a question
Because i have see it again what do you mean when you say "Dark Horse" in the videos
I think it means that an artist or song is underrated, but will actually do better than everybody thinks it will do.. therefore being the “dark horse” in the background but the ends up on top in the end in the spotlight!
@@eurovisionstar5197 aa really?amazing. Ok thank you 🙏
It means the singers or songs that might surprise people the most and become a success unexpectedly.
@@AmaanStorm 🙏🙏Ok i understand it,thank you so much 😉
LATVIA DARKHORSE! Agree with Ireland Germany
Hooverphonic ... Goosebumps ... first ever Eurovision song i like ... with love, from Belgium :-)
My prediction for dark horses
1.Belgium ( I see Belgium in TOP 10 in final).
2.Australia ( many predict to Austrlalia maybe stay in semi, but I see this song in final on left scoreboard prediction 10-13 place)
3.Latvia (maybe be surprise like Latvia 2015, same composer )
4.Croatia (with good staging and vocals , I can see Croatia in Top 10 , first time after 20 years)
5.Austria (can be surprise like Austria 2017,2018 thanks to juries)
6.Denmark ( I see Denmark in final in TOP 15, prediction from 12 to 15 place)
You're forgetting Portugal. It's a very nice, jazz song that is bound to be appreciated by Juries.
Nah bottom 3
@@oli7513 you must be fun at parties!
Couldn’t agree more with Ireland!
🇷🇺 😍
That none of your lists have either Ukraine, Finland or Italy in them is in my opinion quite baffling. Ok, we get it, you don't like music that's not mainstream. Because that's what all the songs you listed (except Russia maybe) are.
Y think Serbia because the are so emaizing the song is with full energy number one❤
i have to agree with this list..also i am happy what you said about my country (Czech Republic) benny is on czech music scene for more than 10 years and one think i realy know about him is that he is the live performer and he can slay this live ..he is able to sell his own performance i thin that bookies realy sleep of czech republic this year ..if benny strikes our personal record from 2018 ( 6th place in final with Mikolas Josef) it wasnt be a suprise for me .
