John Mayor did a phenomenal job as a guest host on the Late Late Show before after Craig Ferguson’s contact was done and before James Corden started. Many people guest hosted but John Mayer’s three day stint was out of this world. He was extremely witty, quick minded and delivered great monologues. Better yet as a professional musician he had musical guests on each night and collaborated with them on each episode. It was very much like David Sanborn’s old show Night Music combined with desk interviews. I hope that since James Corden is leaving next April (which I lament) that CBS will pursue John Mayor for The Late Late Show because he brings a lot to the table and changes the nature of the show.
I would love to see him host again. He was so good. But he’s admitted it brought on too much anxiety. Maybe if he works through that, he will change his mind?
