I had this surgery done after a car wreck. Was absolutely horrifying waking up with that thing in my waist. Had it there for 3 months. It was a dark time
@@bojanh66 they offered to do it with pain meds or with anesthesia. But being an angsty teen at the time I elected to get it out with nothing. Was incredibly uncomfortable and painful but got through it. If you take meds it’s probably be much easier. They literally attach a stainless T-key to the bolt and unthread it from your bone. Pretty gnarly but not the worst part. The most painful part was in the hour or two after it came out. Felt like my hips were stretching after a long time of being cramped in a tight space if that make sense. Felt like an epic soreness after a big workout when you haven’t done one in a long time. Subsided after a couple days. I hope yours goes as smoothly or better than mine did. Recovery was fairly straightforward and so was physical therapy. For weeks afterwards though I’d still wake up to a nightmare thinking I still had that thing in my waist. I hope the best for you. It’s a hard thing to endure but you can do it friend
As a man who had one back in 2008, thank you. Always been curious as to how they went about it. I briefly remember it being there. I remember being told one time I woke up after just having it. I grabbed it and screamed for a screwdriver and wrenched on the bars. Apparently it hurt. 😅 My Mom said I didn't do it twice 😮
@@bojanh66 it was uncomfortable for sure. Pressure no pain. Don't believe there's any anesthesia used. Maybe an extra dose of your normal meds at best. Likely a quick x-ray immediately following to make sure your all set. Then home again.
I had one of these for 3 months after a severe sports fall injury. Thankfully it was just one pin per side. Still gnarly to wound care for myself during that time!
Search "X Marks The Spot: Sharpies Get Thumbs-up For Marking Surgery Sites". Also "Use of Permanent Markers for Intraoperative Marking in Body Contouring Surgery: An Innovative Technique" And, "Planning Surgery? Bring a Sharpie". There is other literature out there. This patient is also dead.

I have a problem with drilling through the X mark made by a magic marker. The ink isn't sterile and the drill is pushing the ink into the body.
