That realisation came to me last year after burn out. Have refocused my attention to becoming a more well rounded being. I’m not going to wish I worked more on my deathbed.

This is the greatest. I need this today!
I recently put in my resignation on 2/4/22 after working with a wonderful company for 9+ years. My last day is 3/31. This video really helps me understand that my decision to take time off and dedicate my time to job searching and finding my next path was truly necessary.
Grasping -what do I want to do- and not letting that define who I am. Thank you so much. I hope that I can one day speak to you one on one as your videos in the past and now keep me motivated and positive.

Yesss totally agreed! We are literally little children when we are asked 'what do you want to be when you grow up?'. Liked everyone you said here. Also the whole idea that when we are at that age, all we know are standard careers like doctor, artist, teacher, etc which does not even cover a small portion of the vast range of careers that we can opt for in this day and age.

Such a great point you make, and its completely valid. What you what to do is definitely more poignant a question than what do you want to be. This is very relevant for me as I have a son who is a sophomore in HS and when I am driving him to school, I try to have some conversations about this. But I will ask him to think about what you want to do more than what you want to be. Thanks for another great video.

My company wants me to live and breathe them. They say we’re “a family” all the time. That’s a huge trigger warning right there. I say fuck that, my family is at home, and I would never let my work life invade my REAL families life. I don’t take my family to work events. My coworkers have never met my family. They never will either.

Hey John, thanks for this I think I needed it. Been going through high anxiety through my job search and finally wrapped up today with an offer. And although I'm really high on this today, I know in the long term for my mental health and sense of worth I need to work on the things you described in this video.

Great as always, John! Your perspective on detaching self-worth is insightful and powerful. Much appreciated.

I completely agree with you. It took me sometime to realize this. Companies consider you as an "asset", you're not even human. Human resource. A resource. You're self worth is not determined by a job. It's all business at the end of the day. It all starts in school, where your identity becomes someone who does well in studies and then at work earning well.
