I was just about to write that, but then i saw your comment. He did all those things, before the guys who`s been credited with that. It`s a disgrace, that he never won The Ballon D`or, or at least The Best European Player Award. Pep Guardiola said : " The Ballon D`or means nothing........Cause Michael Laudrup never won it "........that`s a beautiful quote.

Michael Laudrup is the most underrated player ever in my opinion. Why? Because to me even though he never won the World Cup he should definitely be regarded as one of the all time greats and yet so few people remember him or even consider him to be just that. I mean come on this video refers his playing style as being of another dimension.

  • @rmfgs

The player from whom I've learnt to fully apreciate the art of playmaking. Brilliant, intelligent, wonderfully skilled (though underrated as he was just objective, no move was wasted) and, overall, unselfish. A true GENIUS! Sadly, barely recall his plays for Barcelona, mostly Denmark and Real Madrid. Because of him, later another player who resembled much of him became my idol, Rui Costa. Great upload, Excellent title.
Respect to Laudrup. From a portuguese (and Benfica) fan

My favourite quote on Laudrup is from Cruyff (After Real Madrid with Laudrup had won 5-0 over Cruyff's Barcelona): "When Michael plays like a dream, a magic illusion, determined to show his new team his extreme abilities, no one in the world comes anywhere near his level"
This is from a man who had a lot of issues with Michael who had left him the season before.

I am from Denmark, when Laudrup was at his greatest I was like two years old. So I have never really seen him play. If he really were that good as on this video. I think Baggio was better in that particular role just in front of the midfield but behind the striker/strikers... I think Laudrup was better as a true midfielder, in particular the left side of midfield... not on the wing though... ideally on the left of a diamond midfield.

+Sebastian Tannæs He did play for Bayern Munich one of the biggest clubs in Europe. I'm not arguing that his skills were not as good as Michael's. His dribbling, especially at pace was perhaps better than his brother's. But the vision Michael possesed was second to none.

Some liverpool fans (idiots) tries to compare him to world unknown j.Barnes even call Barnes superiour to Laudrup (I thought my jokes are bad). Zidan uses "made in Laudrup" move, Iniesta uses "foot to foot shift" that laudrup invented, Ronaldinho uses "look other way and pass" that Laudrup invented also. Like Great Pep Guardiola said "The Ballon D'or is worth nothing! because Michael Laudrup never won it!" do you believe Pep Guardiola said that even Magician Messi won that, unbelievable.

Nobody understands the game that good and can play so clean, He's like Zidane, but faster and clever, and a great, excellent team-player. Makes any team play at his best. Just my opinion. Michael Laudrup, the best. Thanks for all of that magic.

He's a combination of Ronaldinho, Messi, Ronaldo, Zlatan, Eto'o, Lampard, Berbatov , Beckham, Pirlo and Kaká. Name anybody.
It's just that... even though he's a combination of those players, he's still unique. I don't know how the hell to explain that, but that's just Laudrup for you all, you can't explain how great he was.
And the fact that he did this 20 years earlier than all players nowadays, is just astonishing.

Thanh Binh Do A joke. Do you know what elegance even means? Without hesistation Zidane is the most Elegant player in the histroy of the game. That does not mean he is the best but he is the most elegant - no one would deny that. No one could caress the ball the same way Zidane. Laudrup tho elegant, appeared a lot more hurried than Zidane with the ball at his feet. Zidane was like a ballerina with all the time in the world. Zizou had a better first touch. Hands down Zidane is the most elegant player to play the game- he always appeared to have more time on the ball than any1 else. My only criticism of Zidane is that I did not feel he was as consistent as people say he was. Infact was more consistent. But Zidane for his achievements and his completeness as a player gets my vote ahead of Laudrup.

Amazing video, showcases Laudrups style. I've yet to see a player with better flow than ML. Yes, it might not be at the same level as football today, but he still stands as one of the best players, ever.
He's like Messi, Iniesta and Xavi in one player.
When I see Iniesta play, I can't help but think back at Michael, cause even though he's not as good, there's no doubt about where he got his inspiration.
I met ML once, while he was coach in my hometown (Brøndby).
    Never been that starstruck.

It will be a while before we get another Messi but we will NEVER get another Michael Laudrup. Best playmaker ever. Messi + Laudrup in attack = Deadly combo.

Great Video seb. What a blast from the past! He came from a time when the Northern European footballers were keeping up with the South Americans for skill imo.

Underrated by mainstream. Yes. At least in 1999 he was awarded best player for the past 25 years beating players such as Ronaldo and Maradona.

It indeed was his trademark move, also coined the Laudrup dribble by for example Cruyff. But, he most often used very gentle touches on the ball to trick the opponent. This is seen in the solo goal against Urugay which is the last goal of this video. Many other examples are seen in the other Laudrup videos on youtube.

@vomming i agree, there is lots of great goals on youtube, skills etc etc. But when you watch greatness like what Laudrup shows here, it wins hands down. A very special player. He was voted best foreign player of last 25yrs in La liga in 1999 . Pure Class...

And before Laudrup, lots and lots of players used the first and the second tricks.
Those tricks have always been popular.

lol, Laudrup vs Zidane. It just goes to show that they were both awesome players. Definitely the best offensive midfielders in their respective eras.
What made Laudrup stand out, compared to any other player, was his amazing vision and passes.
When his teammates didnt know what to do, they just passed to Laudrup. When he received the ball, the crowd sithered with anticipation. Because everyone knew Laudrup had the creative mind and the skill set to put amazing things in motion.
