What is Qualitative Data Analysis Software?

There are a lot of qualitative data analysis software programs to choose from, but what do they do, and what's the difference? Sometimes called QDAS (Qualitative Data Analysis Software) or CAQDAS (Computer Assisted Qualitative Data AnalysiS), these tools can help make qualitative analysis easier than using manual methods like pen and highlighers, or generic software like Word or Excel.
