"I guess Kain was in love with Rosa or something?" Brother, the entire point of him getting manipulated in FF4 was that he WAS in love with Rosa which Golbez used to brainwash him into servitude. If you even played the post game content of the PSP version of FF4, you get to see in the extra dungeon's section for Kain that he still feels strongly about Rosa and has some lingering envy towards Cecil. The trial wven offers him the chance to KILL Cecil, even if it's all in his head. You point out so many reused plot points but then don't point out how Kain was in love with Rosa in the original? If you claim they didnt state it outright so it didn't count to you, you're just not paying attention and were too busy nitpicking to notice it.
I agree with your frustration, but I don't think his omission / forgetfulness is really that relevant. Essentially, his points about outright copy/paste and "original" writing being awful still stand.
This video isn't about Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, thus it's wrong. A game that was INTENTIONALLY made stupid and easy because "Americans don't play RPGs because they're too hard for them" should be an absolute no brainer. The story was garbage, the combat was garbage, and pretty much everything about it was trash (the main protag being named "Benjamin"... like they were trying to come up with the whitest most English sounding name they could muster...). Music was the only decent thing in it. The same reused story of "the crystals were stolen and we must reclaim them to save the world" nonsense. Sounds to me that you need to play more Final Fantasy games, because TAY isn't even bottom 3.
The people who dump on Mystic Quest don't really realize how many things THAT game did first. Such as sprites showing damage in battle. Or the use of a jump button which wouldn't return until FFX2. Destroyable environments in dungeon. Fully flexible main capable of all equipment. IMO it deserves way more love than it gets.
If there's anything I hate more than The After Years... it's this video. I quite enjoyed The After Years. If you want a Final Fantasy game worthy of that Worst Ever Made title, go play All The Bravest.
That was quite a tiraid. Are you ok? Seriously, the game was designed to just give people who loved FF4 another round with those characters. The rehashed plot points are designed for that. In addition, becuase it was released over a period of time you wouldn't be playing through the same dungeons every few hours, you would encounter them again after a month or two of playing various other games. This is one of those games that is not meant to be played all at one time. For us in the west on the PSP version we would hate it if we went through FF4 and this immediately afterwards and I see your frusturation.
I quite like The After Years. I would rank it above 2, Mystic Quest, 11... Personally I would almost put it above 7 because I prefer characters that play unique from each other
C'mon, Mystic Quest lower than After Years? Mystic Quest had a straight plotline, sure, but it made sense and characters didn't turn on a dime and change motivations on a whim just to suit the story. FF4: AY either copies FF4 outright, or it tries to connect disparate plotpoints making characters either look stupid or incompetent, or both! TLDR; Mystic Quest > FF4: AY as proven. :D
@@fortissears5388 Mystic Quest is bottom the the barrel trash... what? It had nearly zero redeeming qualities and was made as such because "Lol, Americans don't like difficulty." Hell, even the story had already been done before and this was released long before TAY. TAY isn't great, but in no way is it the worst.
Putting TAY above 7 and 11 is wild, borderline blasphemy. The FF2 and 13 guys are more understandable, I say this as someone that dunks on 7, 2 and 13 religiously.
@@DragoonCenten 11 was fine for its time but the price is too much for what it is and I would argue it aged the worst of the mainline entries. 7 was only in consideration because I dislike how Materia makes every character feel meaningless, they are only what abilities you equip on them. For as weird as TAY is, I like characters feeling like unique characters.
Yeah, I bought this game when I was a kid, or had my dad buy it for me. Never finished it until years later. It sucked, but I wanted to get my money's worth.
Final Fantasy 4 is not the worst, not even close that is reserved for Final Fantasy 12, which has the worst combat system of any game ever made. I unferstanding they were trying to break free of random battle encounters, but they went about it in the worst possible way and created a battle system that feels like an idle game.
@@sarkaztik3228 He's not wrong to be honest. The battle system of 12 is pretty bleh, especially the original PS2 version where only 1 spell could be cast at once and quite a few bosses spammed spells making it nigh impossible for you to cast your own spells.
@@DhalinIt honnestly wasn't that bad outside of Cuchulainn and it's HP draining effect and the 5 Judges on IZJS, and you could also use this limitation to your own advantage in the same way by casting a spell with a long animation like Holy to delay the boss casting while your berserked character keeps attacking.
@@nesoukkefka1741 I just remember Gilgamesh and his BS dog spamming Meteor preventing me from healing. Granted my memories of the game are fuzzy, but that is one fight that just had me rolling my eyes at artificial difficulty.

A major reason for the reused content is for the nostalgia trip for people who loved the original.

Meh worst FF when FF All the Bravest exist is overlyexagerate, also even in the main line I still think it was better that II and XV.
