This car also seems worth spending over the 3-door Thar, due to the better features, space, and comfort.

People want more status, attention to detail, road presence, and comfort. Hence, the white leather can do the job well, but I also agree that brown/black leather could have been an option for off-road enthusiasts.

Given the features of the car and the reliable 4 wheel drive capabilities of the Thar I think 28-29 lakhs on road is fully justified. Mahindra have seemingly struck the right balance between luxury and practicality in their proper 4wd car. Personally I don't like that white upholstery inside the new Thar, it will get dirty fast, but overall it's a very good attempt by Mahindra. I hope they give the option of electrically adjustable memory seats for both front passengers in the future.
