The Touran introduced electro-mechanical steering, a first in its class and for Volkswagen. It is able to vary the weight of the steering depending on the road speed.
I had that engine in a seat Leon in 2005/6, and was never what you might call reliable. It managed to last until about 6 months after the warranty ran out then regularly started throwing up problems, the worst by far was it's ability to spontaneously go into limp mode, any time any where, it did it when cruising on a motorway when overtaking using the outside lane, the dealer tried to sell me a new turbo saying the problem was turbo over boost £ 700. but if it happened again to '' turn it off and then on again and restart '' try doing that on the outside lane of a motorway or try moving to the hard shoulder with an engine that would not pull. I got shot of it cause the wife did not want to get in it and I had had enough. An independent specialist almost cured the problem for £ 20 he said it was not a reliable engine and I'd have been better off with the 1.9. That was 10+ years ago and I have not owned and will not own another VAG car. PS nice drive Joe thanks but it sent shivers up my spine.
What a nice Touran , I have a same one butt from 2004 the first model pre facelift , same 2.0 TDI engine butt it's the 136 Hp engine 👍✌️and same 6 speed gearbox

As far as I know, the early 2.0TDI was known for "porous" cylinder heads.
Is the 1.9 tdi better?

Nice car but unreliable engine. I would go for a Ford C Max with the TDCI engine which is more reliable.

Yeahh they’re not the same platform.. Dodge and GM counterparts are Vauxhall, Opel and Holden so it would be based on one of those
