"Heheheh how does it feel to be a fan of a game version that didn't even come out?"
"Euphoric."
absolutely amazing is what it feels like
It's simply awesome
this is the most true thing a have ever read
1. Make Beta of game.
2. Scrap 60% of features.
3. Still make one of the best game in history.
valve sigma male grindset
this is a real game development strategy.
develop two games worth of content.
throw out the bad content.
release the good content.
Actually 100% of features, the real beta is long gone, all we have now are just unofficial recreations and outdated leaks.
Sadly it seems that we will never get the entire real beta, but with half life 3(if we ever get it) being set in the Borealis, all we can do is hope that we find some aspects and features from the beta, but then again, all we can do is hope, unless a miracle happens, we aren’t going to see the actual beta, or even some features from the beta, hell, we may not even see Adrian again, episode 4 was cut, and him being canon hasn’t been confirmed, it seems as if we won’t actually get what we want the most, and can only dream of it happening.
meh hl2 was pretty mid
@@MaxwellE985 your mom is mid
As a huge beta junkie this was absolutely fantastic. You really captured the beta aesthetic.
While I'm not the hugest fan of the beta I still like it's aesthetics and wish it could've been used for a seperate IP or something
Yeah, at the end of the day HL2 retail is fine as it is, I think the feeling the beta gives would go way better with a cyberpunk game, I get mad Deus Ex vibes from it
Considering half life is all about the idea of multiple universes and now multiple timelines (sort of) I’ve always figured maybe the beta is just what the combine looks like in some far off parallel universe
@@aSkyclad Yea, it's incredible.
@@Thlormby An alternative future where the Combine are more invasive and cruel with humans.
@@aSkyclad perhaps valve was inspired by deus ex when designing HL2?
It kinda make sense if you look at the development timeline, HL2 got that heavy-steampunk aesthetics shortly before OG deus ex got released (1999-2001)
Also, Gabe Newell himself helped play test deus ex, and I highly doubt he left the play testing room without some kind of afterthoughts…
At the end it’s speculation, but kind of interesting food for thought.
You gotta wonder how the episodes would've been if they kept hl2 like this
A *lot* more darker and gritty.
@@Isaacfess The way I like it.
If they kept HL2 like this they wouldn't have made any episodes. The plan back then was the make HL2 and that was it, because the game was originally going to have 4 days not 3
Until someone got impatient and leak the projects.
@@unknownguyindo4356 that wasn't the cause for cancellation.
I love how the beta maps are so low poly it makes the atmosphere mutch more creepy and dark for some reason and i love it and i wish the remakes dont ruin that effect with good graphics
The low detail leaves your mind to fill in the blanks, and because the mood/atmosphere is done so well, your mind is able to draw a really good image of how dark it really is without much effort. Raise the detail too much and there's no longer room for interpretation. I really wish the remakes would leave it in the early 2000's graphics. Not only do I prefer it but I'm sure it takes less time to build maps. I know detailing a map is only a small part of the process but it still takes a decent amount of time.
@@Steinerrides the closest we got was minimalist mod, although it is a joke the goldsrc engine may be a better candidate for Hl2 beta recreation mainly cuz a lot of the Alpha/Beta was in a transition state between goldsrc and source. I just wait until somebody actually tries it,
That's why I love the Beta remake made in the Doom Engine and the Retail remake made in the Quake Engine!!
Wait what?? Can you give links to it?
@@impairedtrout6917 links to what?
Incredible how much the beta feels like a product of the late 90s/early 2000s, like it belongs to that specific period in time, pretty evident by looking at Alyx design in contrast to the environment she's in at 2:00
Pretty difficult to pull this aesthetic off successfully nowadays. Honestly I'd prefer this style over a Hipster aesthetic.
Absolutely agree, I want more games like this
I get goosebumps at that moment
Tbf I feel like Valve can still pull off this aesthetic within the HL universe, but in some kind of spin-off. Ex: somewhere elsewhere than the City-17 area, earlier on during the combine occupation, or (spoilers ahead for Half Life: Alyx) maybe in some kind of parallel timeline, since the HL: Alyx ending somewhat confirmed they exist
@@Gabriel-el3hn Yup, they can definitely do it - and it would look beautiful in Source 2 graphics. The spin off could probably be set in a different City like City 14, they can make it so City 14 is a lot more dirtier, gritty and industrialised - as for the story maybe it could be about some Resistance members trying to escape but they face some hardships, that's my idea atleast.
Except in the mods, like Dark Interval or Raising the Bar: Redux.
The day Dark Interval and Raising the Bar: Redux get released completely, that's the day I could die in peace.
Also, this is absolutely beautiful, awesome job.
same here
honestly I think Raising The Bar Redux will be finished before Dark Interval, but of course it's still years away. Imma say it will probably be finished in 2025-2026.
Raising the bar: redux div 2 something really excellent.
Usually I find those things kinda cringe
But this is just awesome
Same.
why not let yourself enjoy things?
@@ursa6555 I did
But things that take them selves to serious isn't made for me
Like how I feel about those *Little Dark Age* Slowed Down Versions, like this one ruclips.net/video/YxkaQ2HFSYc/видео.html
3:14 from this point on this stands one of the best hl2 beta videos ever, just the music and the conscripts having a battle is just so top tier.
Sniper is my fav map ever
dat running animation
I love this one I love how you portray the Beta areas and that this fits the Dark and Gritty dystopian world
The true citizen stays in this city
The true citizen rebels against the combine,
and weakens the combines grip on earth.
FOR THE RESISTANCE!!!!!
The true citizen think beta is better
The cityscape at 3:46 totally captivated me. Looks and feels so real and is seasoned with that mellow, easy on the eyes light of a cloudy day.
That's a vista I'd love to see in real life.
Makes me feel very nostalgic for something that never was.
Love it.
That is absolutely B.A.S.E.D
I really want some group of game devs just put their time on it and just release a whole game based on all of the HL2 Beta content out there. they can call it Project Parallel i guess but idk.
Great video btw.
As soon as I pressed play after reading the title, I knew exactly what it was going to be. Yeah, this song (and mashup) fits *really* well with the Beta. Thanks for making this.
How is it possible to be nostalgic of a game I never played ??
This beta as other said have a very particular ambient + the music you chose is very good , an atmosphere of nostalgy on a dark world. Also I find that the citadel have a very particular effect like it's not a possible architecture / liminal / backroom effect with all those tiles
Thanks for this video clip very good !
Just mmmmmm, the vibe of showcasing of what could have been is just so satisfying .
Very cool, I always wonder what we would have today if they stuck to the beta
This is a huge vibe. HL2 beta content has such an unreal and ominous atmosphere. Like you're wandering through a formless world that will never be finished, in some kind of limbo between being doomed and never having been real at all. It's hard to describe. Almost like you're an uninvited ghost just observing a space that will never serve its true purpose.
I really love the beta and how it encorporates both the mystifying nature of an alien empire that expands infinity and can’t be defined, and also the fact that it utilizes humanity and makes them fight against each other as sheep, I do love vanilla and the vibe and authenticity it has but I feel like people forget about the universal union and scale. I literally have spoke to people who think that the OTA are actual aliens and are the combines main force.
I like to imagine North America in the HL universe, the beta timeline goes on there. Where in the North America regions of Earth in the HL Universe, it's just an wasteland from nukes going off from a failed attempt to eliminate the alien invasion. After the combine established rule and the 7H ending in Europe, the human survivors were glad to see order again, but after they established City 24's large walls and spanning across 13 states along the East coast, they harvested resources of the land constantly and polluted the air while growing more districts by the numbers, people weren't so lucky anymore. Children were enslaved while Cities in Europe used the suppression field to cut back on the labor. The people were forced into a union, where they had no control over their lives as the air around them became polluted and the sky green and red from the smog, and watch the once land of the free be built into a Totalitarian Powerhouse with no end in sight and no way to stop them, only able to either submit and be a True Citizen to them or die as an "Anti-Citizen". All the oppression ruled by one man, Simply known as The Consul. (Aka Former U.S Senator Daniel Kurlov.) Feared by many, No one has met him or seen more then his face or the neck down, as he spounts the words of the "Ideal" and "True Citizen", brainwashing and telling the masses to serve and submit to the Universal Union. They're the last to used Synth techonology to combat the environment, while the European sections used Brainwashing / Physical manipulation to make their army, and the Creamator head in Eli's Lab is a present from the American Resistance cells to prove their existance.
And beyond those walls is a uninhabitable, uncharted wasteland, with particle / radiation storms, unbreathable air, combine patrols killing any survivors not in the city, mutated and hungry Xen creatures, and decayed, ruined towering buildings and architecture once showing the power of the country, slowly crumbling, as the Combine slowly drain the dying earth little by little for resources.
I like your head canon, I think it works pretty well
There would’ve been the remains of the US military in the wastelands too. Abrams tanks with their turrets blown clean off, skeletons in army uniforms, destroyed aircraft and entire fields of wrecked military equipment as the United States military failed to stop the combine offensive before the nukes started going off.
This slaps hard
I loved both of the retail and the beta general aesthetics, I think each of these versions have some special feel for them..
As a valve game fan I really like what you did in this you really catched the atmosphere of the Half life 2 beta
You know, Valve being...Valve, It wouldn't surprise me if they somehow made another Barney game, but set in the Beta environments.
RadHaz edits to make you feel like a true citizen. Love this, great work.
I found this channel like 7 weeks ago and I can't stop watching
When it's gettin dark in Beta c17 darkness and grittyness comes to play.
When I first saw this I was like "ooh a new radiation hazard video on the beta I love the hl2 beta" and then I skipped through the video and saw nothing other than cool at shots of beta maps then my brother informed me after dark is a song and that explained a lot. And I like this song it reminds me of when I was a smaller kid
Damn, its been some time man. Good to have you back.
One of my favorite songs mixed with one of my favorite aesthetics I took inspiration from. Absolute masterpice. I must say as a citizen of one of the eastern-european countries I feel like home in the world of the final product. It has such a unwriteable feeling to live in a balcan city like that. But I must say the vibe of the beta city and the whole post-apocalyptic world is something very beautiful. Something that has it's verry own feeling wich is presented in this short video. Good edit btw.
Beautiful song
There is just like this strange vibe about this vid. I think its because i just watched every Beta video you made, and it just feels very familiar because of it. Still love it tho.
BRO THIS IS AWESOME! THIS REMIX FITS WAY TOO GOOD
Man i've watched this so many times in the past months. The end scene with the combine looking out from the highway (?) always gets me for a second because i have that as my desktop background so it confuses my mind, especially if i haven't watched this in a short while!
The Beta maps and concepts have an AMAZING atmosphere, like I would LOVE to see Valve revisit the old concepts for Half Life 2 as a spinoff of the main game just to see more maps and what at one point could have been.
Ngl been eyeing details about the hl2 beta(s) for a few years now and this video has made me go and download the beta maps/packs from the ru site just to check them out myself.
This video has such an amazing vibe though like, wow. Thanks for being awesome and creating something so amazing!
As the hours pass
I Will let you know
That i Need to ask
Before i'm alone
How It feels to rest
On your patien lips
To eternal bliss
Im so glad to know
this is wonderful!
This song is a banger
after watching this i honestly felt a little bittersweet, i loved this video radhaz, i'm very impressed!
Holy... this looks so good!!
this slap harder than mortar hitting my checkpoint god damn
very good
Amazing. You really captured the beta's aesthetic and vibe.
After seeing it a couple times
I can say it's near perfection
And the camera angles are soo awesome
(I do photography)
You really know that someone put a lot of effort in them.
Another banger produced by this mad lad.
Keep coming back to this man, it's genuinely a work of art
holy shit this is perfect, I've been a fan of the beta for decades!
A retelling of an old story but with a twist. I hope the Beta projects get the recognition and success like Black Mesa for it is a very ambitious one.
On a lighter side there's a Krystal from starfox overhaul for Alyx vance another passion project from a fan. Hope you make a video on that in the future 😉
I really hope I live long enough to see the conclusion to this great series of video games.
if Dark Interval ever gets fully released i wish this video gets a remake on that game.
What about Raising the Bar?
meh, works for me.
This is so cool man, I feel as if I was born in the wrong generation of gaming and in the wrong generation in general because I adore half life and have sunken hundreds of hours into the different games but other people my age don't like the half life series or many of the other games I like such as the Doom series. Cool video though, feels nice to have been watching your channel since you've only had like 1000 subs.
man all these kids and their ex box
sooo everyone has to like half life or what
Yoo chiiiill you be posting like crazyy ❤️❤️❤️
Masterpiece.
Best one of these types of videos I've seen yet.
It reminded me why I love Beta so much
Ah waiting infinitely in the elevator, corner, buildings wherever they can but for what? Their purpose is to suffer
I love the bleak and more dystopic look of the beta City 17, and there's a small part of me that would love to see Valve (or more realistically a fan mod) adapt it to another numbered city that's been mentioned before, like City 14.
Mesmerizing; it actually kind of changed my view of HL2 Beta for the better
I still think little dark age is the most fitting song for the half-life beta
I agree 100%
For me i like after dark
Nice! this is very cool
Fantastic! I wish I could visit a parallel universe where HL2 released with the beta story and aesthetic
Nice camerawork and editing!
this made me remember why i love the beta keep up the good work
This is amazing and I am emotional
amazing video man, good job!
I feel like I need to dust off my CRT monitor to fully appreciate this video. It would be pretty cool to see this in 1024x768 or maybe even 800x600
3 Years and He's Still With Us Keep going Radiation Hazard.
A Half life 2 concept that we never got but don’t give me wrong i still love the final version as well but beta lore is pretty interesting and dark and grittiness looks cool it give’s me blade runner, dark city and 1984 vibes. but thank god for the modding community that two different modding team remaking beta concepts such as dark interval and raising the bar redux as their own independent vision and i know it’s nots perfect but these two team are doing fantastic job just like how crowbar collective managed to remake entire of half life 1 and xen reimagine that fix problems compared to original xen and black mesa for 16 years of development is a lot of work and end up becoming official game on steam and even valve approved this. Great music video btw.
Rad, I just wanted to tell you that I've been watching your videos for a long time. I used to make crappy HL1 and HL2 maps back in the day (Quake before that). I love the Beta, and I watch this video when I'm at work on my second screen. Keep it up.
(Also, I can't believe you haven't gotten sued yet.)
one minute im like wow rad has two more videos then fast forward three hours im makeing a beta recreation
did radhaz just love my comment i think im hallucinating
I did not see this coming, I really love this song
this video deserves an award!!
The conscripts were so cool. They don't make sense with the combines regime though, maybe they could've been reworked by making them an army of old military personnel fighting to take down the combine. Could have also had a dynamic were some conscripts were former HECU and still had a hate for freeman.
This is beautiful
Oh i just had a thought, you could make a big, final video on the beta including all of the stuff you ever talked about, like the clock, the characters, the story, the maps, the dev stories, etc.
And maybe you could use this video as an intro for that video, with some cool intro text and gameplay or something...
Idk, i just thought it would be a cool video lol.
Yeah something along those lines can be done, whenever it's time to dish out the grand finale.
late to commenting, but this is such a cool vid, certified quality beta content
Despite it being a meme song this was really good
This is beautiful.
Beta builds of half life 2 were completely different game than the final version of hl2. The story in hl2 beta is terrifying for me.
gritty and dark
Who are you and what have you done to the old radiation hazard 🤔
Can you bring him once again
Not that I am complaining about this banger
I was going to comment that this is a powerful story that never got told. But that's untrue, this story _has_ been told. The story of a game we've never played, and will never play, told through recreations and mods and videos like this. In a way, it feels more special for that.
I honestly wanna cry.
V. I. B. I. N. B)
It looks like its impossible to win as a rebel in the beta.
The best version of the beta map is Industrial 17.
It's not good.
IT'S BEAUTIFUL! ❤️
very dark and gritty
happy birthday,fully modelled, etc
This is the masterpiece.
I mean, the beta is closer to an alien invasion than the one we got if I really have to be honest. It's more grittier and darker.
Don't get me wrong, the original Half Life 2 is still good, but I wouldn't mind a full game with the beta's aesthetics.
i feel like someone should make a half life 2 beta mod for half life 1 or mod gold source to support 3d skyboxes
This wasn't even a thing and I'm nostalgic for it
Daily uploads? 😳
HOLY SHIT ITS SO COOL
Radiation Hazard: Daily Uploader
This goes hard
gives me nostalgia for some reason
