  • Pastor Jeff Durbin preached one of the final messages for our series on prayer. This message is powerful and it touches on some of the most common hindrances to having a deep, intimate, and consistent life of prayer.

My son and I are currently in one of the most challenging and painful situations of my life. We don't have a home, I'm physically unwell, I can't work because of it and have been brought down to the pit of fear and despair. I've always been known as the endlessly happy person...nothing could get me down. Positive and grateful for all the little things. But the past year has refined me to the bone....and I couldn't be more humbled and thankful that God has guided me through this experience to see His glory in it. That being said, I realized that now, through my worry and depression and fear, I am sinning. I thought to myself, "how could I possibly be sinning enough to deserve this pain and situation? I'm a good person, I love God. Why?" Then it hit me...my sin is my doubt. My fear. I have to anchor every moment on prayer and trust. The sin is believing that God doesn't have control of this...even though it's painful for me. HE is God. HE knows it all. I am His child and have to trust.
Thank you for this msg....it's re-affirming and has helped me remember. Sometimes God's path for us is the pain we're going through. He knows and we have to remember that, as His children, every step we take is with Him.

Wonderful sermon pastor Jeff...you have opened my eyes...I'm not a Christian but after seeing your sermons in you tube, I realized more that I'm at a wrong religion. Now I want to ask God thru prayers that He direct me and my family to the right Christian faith because of so many Christian sect in our place I don't know where I may go and be converted. Thank you. You are a blessing to all lost people of God.

Ann Deuda don’t get caught up in the names!:) the only thing that matters is who you say Jesus is at the end of the day.

Your sermons are such a gift....thank you!!!
And thank you also for adding moments where you talk about glow sticks and raves! 😂 Don't forget whistles, tiny, furry backpacks and an abundance of neon bracelets. Nothing like a good laugh amidst a humbling, edifying sermon.

6“Don’t waste what is holy on people who are unholy.e Don’t throw your pearls to pigs! They will trample the pearls, then turn and attack you.
    Effective Prayer
7“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

John 15:16 Whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
If you think the Father is sort of a cloud without body, parts, and passions, it seems to me that might be a hinderance to prayer. How is a cloud without body, parts, and passions going to give you anything?

What happens if you're in a marriage relationship where one party strives for peace, but the other party is the sort of person who never, ever forgives anything? The sort of person that shuts down and gives the silent treatment no matter how much you try and talk to them and create some harmony in the home?

Yesica1993 That's a good question. I would say pray for them and show them Christ. I know it's not easy but Jesus said are enemy's will be they of are own household, and we are commanded to love are enemy's. He never said it would be easy but His Holy Spirit will give you strength. I will be praying for you.

That's a hard situation. When they reject you go pray for them, go to Jesus Christ and his word. Also I would say ask God who would want to spend time with you or that you could help in some way, so the focus and power isn't all with that person. Sometimes the wounds are deep or they are in a certain place in maturity where you need a lot of patience, so do what you can to make peace then focus elsewhere. Prayer and blessings for you

I'm not convinced by the calvinist reformed theology point. God being sovereign over our lives and giving us free will to choose our path aren't mutually exclusive. I believe He will intervene whenever he pleases, his divine providence, but he also gives us space to choose to do right. This is why it's so important to me always to pray that God intervenes in my life (and others), that He grants us wisdom so that when we exercise our free will we will be strong enough to choose to do right.

Before Saul sinned in offering the burnt offering before Samuel got there, God told Samuel to proclaim that Saul's kingdom would reign over Israel forever. Saul's fear and his free will messed God's plan up. 1 Samuel 13

I have much love for Jeff and his ministry and know he has a close relationship with Dr. James White, and would like to know Jeff's position on the recent debate about the manner in which Dr. White interacts with Muslims in the church? Thank you for loving God's people and feeding the flock!
