Nothing better than a truck with a
    Caterpillar and a 5 and a 4 speed. OUTSTANDING. ! 🇺🇸👍

Quite impressive! You really have to get a feel for the ratios in each box and where you're at speedwise. They have multiple ratios that make the difference, especially loaded. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you. Definitely still perfecting them after 2 years of running them full time

Thank you, 2 years running them full time, still learning and scratch a few during the day.

The main box shifter is usually on the left. Yours seems to be different?

    • @Rareoldtrucks
      @Rareoldtrucks  Год назад +3

Yes my main is towards the right auxiliary on left, which is nice as I’m usually working the auxiliary thru out the day.

Mack Quad Box 5x4 had compound on the left, main on right, but their Triplex 5x3 had main on left, compound on right.

Hmm! Missed out on learning to master this type of tranny! Instead of going to the wussie automatic these companies needs to go back in time to this! #Keepontruckin 😉👌💯

Yes they do. If you can drive these you're not just a steering wheel holder!

I see the insulation keeps the sticks from getting cold

Thankfully yes, the heat doesn’t work to well. I even took the vent piping and faced it towards the sticks to help in keeping them warm.

We always slid heater hose over them to keep them from singing. The vibration would make them noisy.

whats going on here i thought the second stick was basically a range selector but i can see im clearly wrong

This is a 5 speed and a 4 speed. 5 is on the far left 4 speed to the right. 5 is the main transmission 4 speed is your auxiliary. I usually us 2-3-4 in auxiliary when loaded and shifting. So depending the situation and load weight I will start go thru the auxiliary shift up the main down shift auxiliary and so on. There is definitely ether videos that explain it better and you can see more shifting

A person can put the auxiliary stick wherever he likes

The ones you are referring to are nothing more than a fancy splitter for a 13/18 speed. This is a true and genuine twin stick truck. Two gear boxes, primary and auxiliary. Your auxiliary box works similarly to the splitter button on a 13/18. You work through a primary gear by climbing through the auxiliaries.

Always hated the phrase "grinding" gears. Aint nothing wrong with a little tickling.
Now take that bad boy up to Manhattan on a Tuesday afternoon. Youll get real comfortable with it then.
