I'm all in on the Blizzard pattern using the white and "linen" colored linen. She may have loved those colors for her wedding, but she may move on to different colors later on in life that she loves more. The Blizzard quilt will be timeless.
@juliestafford5959 you are so absolutely correct! As much as I love scrappy and bright I would be more inclined to the neutrals as well. Timeless Indeed!
Thanks, Julie! I had the same thought! Those of us that have a few years under our belt see how our tastes in colors have changed over the years...but white and linen are ALWAYS in style! ❤️
Definitely the coloured one -you have such a gift for pulling together a colour palette, it would be a shame to waste it! Also, it is exactly what she had in her bouquet - stunning! Wasn't she a beautiful bride too??!! I'm sure she'll treasure her gift whatever you decide 💗💗
All beautiful, no wrong choice in these options for sure... But wow, that white and beige all linen combo just spoke to my soul and made my eyes light up 😍 I could just see a whole lifetime of snuggles in it, as it gets softer and softer through their years together... Whichever you pick, please take us on the journey from start to finish!
My thoughts, too!! Something about that white and tan/beige in that pattern just speaks to me too...and you know it will be heavy (linen) but airy. 😍 Girl, you know I will and I hope everyone will stay with me for the journey!❤️
I love the Melody Quilt idea with all of the beautiful colors! If these were her wedding colors then you know she loves the color palette! Can’t wait to see what you choose! 😊
I do like your colorful quilt idea; but, I think a quilt using the white, linen color, AND gray would be fantastic! That way, I think her new husband would love it just as much! I think that combination would look so pretty and have such a relaxing feeling! Enjoyed your conversation today!
The minute you started talking about the linen quilt, it conjured up visions of waking up early on a summer day with the warmth of the sun streaming in the window and the feel of the linen quilt. It made me want to stop what I’m doing and start a linen quilt. And I do happen to have a midi a-line linen skirt that was destined for the donation pile that could be the start of it. I make yoyo quilts and have never sat a machine to quilt. That may change. I’ll add that to my list. Anyway, that would be my choice, hands down! I love your videos!!!!
The neutral linens are a complete win. The colors matched to her floral bouquet has the advantage of being a reminder of that wondrous day, but the linens are a classic choice. That’s my vote!
How fantastic that Amy chose colors that work so well for a quilt! Gorgeous colors. PS I can't believe you can sit on the floor like that for so long...impressive!
Caitlin, right?! Her wedding was SO gorgeous. Do you know, I didn't even notice...but I've been trying to "get down" more so I don't lose that mobility and flexibility!!
Both patterns are lovely. I’m inclined to think the neutral color way would be timeless and versatile. It is fun watching your quilt journey. And yes, I too have to juggle projects to stay motivated to reach the finish line!!
I lean into the multiple colors, because that’s my own comfortable creative place. In choosing things like this, I often consider what I know about the person’s own preference for color and pattern, both in clothing and home decor if I know about that. Another color scheme that rises is the possibility of using 1 or 2 colors from the more rainbow palette with the cream, gray or white linen. The lighter sage green might be lovely and also speak to Amy’s natural side. Or you could go a higher contrast with one or two of the red/putty/peach range. I’ll be interested to see what you choose! I bet Amy will love whatever you choose because you made it!
I love your videos! I have a quilt that was given to me 30 years ago for my wedding….handmade by a family member…and she made it in colors she loved…. but that we hated. Still after 30 years it’s not colors that have become popular. (Btw I hate that I don’t love it, but it’s been stored in the cedar chest ever since.) My advice: she might suspect she’s getting a quilt so ask the bride what color she’d like the quilt to be or maybe pick the timeless neutral that goes with everything!
Hi Cathy. I like both quilt ideas/ patterns. I like the colorful one the most. I like that the fabrics that you are considering pick up the colors of the wedding flowers and bridesmaid dresses. The bride likes those colors, she picked them for her wedding. I think that a quilt in that color scheme would be a lovely reminder of the wedding.
My next door neighbor and my best friend is an excellent quilter. She was having the same quandary as yourself. In the end she chose the timeless beige quilt and she never looked back. It turned out to be exquisite and the bide has never taken it off her bed. It fits all decor and especially someone who is quite unconscious about their personal looks. Look luck on your decision whatever you choose will be the right one!
I love both of the quilts you're considering. I like the movement of the melody quilt and the colors the most. A linen quilt would be amazing too. Whichever you choose, she is going to love and cherish it. You'll know the right quilt and colors when it clicks with you.
What an absolutely wonderful video! You are so gifted with choosing/mixing beautiful colors and I LOVE color, but I also LOVE linen and neutrals. The idea that someone suggested to make a reversible quilt with color on one side and neutral linens on the other side is brilliant. I agree with that suggestion OR make them two quilts.
I completely relate to that place you described. For the last two years, I have wanted to begin the 365 day challenge quilt. Choosing the fabrics has been the most difficult part. In the meantime, I made quite a few quilts. Last month I finally started my challenge❤
I'm actually working on my 2nd quilt. I started many, many years ago. It's a storm at Sea. Every time I looked at it, I groaned. When I got it out, it's further along than I thought. So I'm giving it a try. 😊 Thanks for your chats.
Both the quilting patterns are gorgeous and I can see what a tough decision it would be. I absolutely love the color palette that Amy chose-her bouquet is stunning-and those colors would work beautifully with that quilt pattern. I wouldn’t have thought to put those colors together. The two-tone quilt would be beautiful, as well, and if you didn’t have enough of one or two tan (or if you chose gray) shirts for all those blocks, you could make every tan block using a different tan shirt/fabric. Can’t wait to see what you decide! I’m sure it’ll be fabulous and Amy and her husband will cherish it. (She sounds a little like my younger daughter! ☺️) Happy quilting!!!
Both are stunning . However the color palette will be a great memory quilt as far as color theme of her wedding . As I’m sure she had so much fun planning the color theme of it! ❤
Whatever color way you decide Cathy will be absolutely beautiful and the quilt a much appreciated gift created with love. Quilts are a gift of the heart and a fabric hug. Can’t wait to see the final project as well as watch it’s progress. ❤️
Hey, Cathy! I’m looking forward to seeing which quilt you ultimately decided to make for Amy. I agree with the idea of making a timeless quilt of the tan/linen fabrics. However, I hope you use the other pulled fabrics for another quilt some time along the line! Stay well! Muskoka ON🇨🇦
I love the colors in the wedding party. Your quilting fabric selections are spot on to any composition or pattern you choose to use. I would go out and purchase some teal fabric. I am not a person who is too fond of gray. However, the cream or ivory yardage for the backing would be beautiful. The bride will be thrilled to know the thought that went into creating it. Lucky her! Thank you for helping us explore the process of creative contemplation. You are a work of art in process!🧵🪡💕🌟
I’m on team Melody quilt with the wedding colours too! Both are beautiful, but if you’re going to honour her with a wedding gift, I feel that would be the choice I would go with. I really love your two tone linen quilt as well!
I love the linen idea, you seemed very happy and interested in both, but you just seemed to be more excited about the linen one. Already having ideas on how to “ fix” any fabric shortages. Both quilts were we so perfect and both would be so loved, but I think you would be happier making the linen quilt. Can’t wait to see which one you choose .🥰
Both quilts are beautiful and so is your thinking!... And I'm sure the quilt that you make will be stunning! Your description in the beginning of why you work on several quilts is so perfect.... And more importantly you inspire me to finish! Always look forward to your videos, Cathy.
I really enjoyed the editing on this! Thank you for sharing your thought process for making quilts, it's one of those things I love hearing about - the thinking stage that comes before the making stage.
Thank you, C A! I will pass your praise on to the editor! 🥰 I like hearing about people's thought processes too....maybe because I'm always thinking, "I wonder why they did that?!" 😂 or "Ooooh. What a great idea!!"
I love both designs but the Blizzard quilt using your stash of linen is my favourite! It's simplicity in just the two colours is gorgeous. Sometimes less is more. It will be timeless. It will go with everything, always! P.S. I'm glad I'm not the only one who's mind is ticking over with other project ideas, whilst working on other current projects 😄
Both are beautiful… love those colors! But…. a linen quilt… so amazing, unique, luxurious. I vote linen 🙂 (wondering what you will use as backing if that’s the final choice) P.S. I’m sure you’ve thought of searching the bed linens/curtain section of your thrift stores. I have a beautiful twin size, unbleached, linen duvet cover… something like that (or a linen curtain) could provide LOTS of yardage.
Fellow linen lover, I see you! ❤️ I have been keeping an eye on bed linens/curtains and no such luck yet...but I am always thankful for the reminder and my goodness yes so much yardage!! Fingers crossed that I'll find something before I have to choose a backing! 😱🤞🏻🤓
You seem happiest talking about the light linen and “beige” , I would go for it. But … do something with the colors from the wedding…they were beautiful and go so well together. Go for both of them,,, ❤
I love both quilts and the colors you chose. For the timless goal I would do the two tone with the grey. Grey matches almost everything so it would most likely still be usable if she changes her bedroom decor.
Love your video. If you haven’t made the decision already, I vote the timeless look of neutral colors..she can use it forever and add colors with throw pillows. Especially if this will be large bed size. A smaller quilt would be stunning in the wedding colors! She will love either one!!
Hi Cathy!! Thanks for your fun insights as always. Since you asked I’m weighing in with my opinion which is to make the quilt in the two color linen but do a fun backing fabric in her colors. That way she has a reminder of the wedding colors but can use the two-tone side up in her decor.
I vote the neutral linen quilt but add a special small pieced block on the backing with her wedding colors as a “hidden” reminder. As time goes on she may hate her wedding colors 🙈
I live in the UK just on the edge of Dartmoor in the South West of England and the beautiful muted colours are reminiscent of soft clouds and skies wonderful to sleep under.....I'm considering turning to dress shirts for my quilts I think it's really wonderful the ways you upcycle the fabric.....have got a few quilts on the go at the moment but once they are done I'm trying the shirts ..🙃 x
Woot, another quilt video!! Love seeing the notification pop up when you release another one! I am a color person. Always have been and always will be. I like the looks of neutrals, but for me, there is no joy. However, any quilt made as a gift, is always wonderful regardless if the tastes changes. It will always be used when given, at least if it was given to me. But if your gut is saying neutrals, go with that. Your first instinct is usually correct.
Would you ever hit the thrift store in order to find that missing color? Or, go to a quilt store and a find a fat quarter in that shade? I really like the grey and white quilt--it seems more formal for a wedding quilt. I am not a fan of beige, but really like the grey. I think you would find this quilt interesting in the long-term of working on it. A nice gift for someone who is special in your life.
Beth...yes!! I do that ALL the TIME! Sometimes the thrift store doesn't come through for me, and that's when I visit my local quilt store and see what I can find there! ❤️
I see you have equal votes for the two options. Tiny Orchard Quilts made a Wonky Log Cabin using orange centers with grays for the logs. That block would allow you to use Amy's colors in the centers and your linen neutrals for the logs. Perfect!
First of all, both are BEAUTIFUL! As a new bride I have to weigh in! My wedding colors are not the colors in my house - I wanted my wedding to be bright and cheerful, but my house is calm and neutral. I lean toward the linen quilt for the exact reason you mentioned - about being gifted something and wanting to use it for years, but not loving the colors and/or not having a room/place to put it where it would match. You can’t go wrong with a neutral and the bride can brighten up the space with her own colorful pillows if she so desires! :)
Well congrats, new bride!! ❤️🥰 Thank you for weighing in and especially for giving your reasoning! I'm starting to really lean "two-tone neutral" but LOTS of color lovers in the comments! 😂🥰🤓 May you and your new spouse have a lifetime of love and joy!
Great video. Thanks for explaining what is in your head. I put my future quilts in a loose leaf binder.. Looking thru them every few months. Choosing one or two a year. While working full time, caring for an ill husband, Babysitting my grandson , I need my me time. Have a great day. Looking forward to your next video.
My vote would be Melody Quilt with the colors from her wedding. The other options would be beautiful, but since it's a wedding quilt, you should use her colors.
Hello Cathy! What a lovely gift for your friend and her new husband. I’m sure she will love whatever you decide. Before you began explaining the colors you were thinking of, I couldn’t keep my eyes off the green/sage/terracotta pieces you had in front of you. Personally, I’d prefer those in the pattern with the movement in it. I really like that combination. Which ever one you choose will surely be adored and cherished.
My favorite is the one with the colors from her wedding. Such beautiful colors that you know for certain that she likes. My suggestion would be to do that for the quilt top but then do something very neutral on the back so that she has a choice between colorful or neutral. That would be a win win in my opinion. 🙂
Thanks a lot- you are really putting a wrench into my new year’s resolution to finish before starting another, but that is ok, you just reminded me to be ME - AND finish 😊. Love the two toned quilt idea!!!!!!
I really enjoyed your sharing your thought process. Great quilt design and size. When there are two tones, I sometimes first see the components. I did not see flowers, I saw stars and horseshoes. Then with the topic of weddng in mind, the horseshoe became a ring and part of the star became the diamond setting. Yes I finally saw the flowers. Either colorway would be nice. I like color. If you decide on neutrals, your label could be from the wedding colors.
Duly noted! I have to tell you I love the men quilters…you guys are great! ❤ And Lord knows we need some men commenters (and viewers) to give a little balance and a different perspective! So glad you’re here with me and thanks for the comment! 🥰
Love the multi colored quilt. With the plaid and butter they complement her wedding colors. Also there is a square dark shade that is in the lower right side of your video. But I love the colors!!!
Good eyes, good eyes! The editor didn't want to distract the viewers with the cords under our couch, thus the dark square. 😂😘 Glad you like the colors I chose! ❤️
Oh I would have such trouble deciding 🤔🤔 I do like two fabric quilts 🤷♀️ but I’m looking forward to seeing what you choose 😊 Your friend is going to know the quilt has been made with lots of love 🥰 Good luck 🤞 I’m sure the quilt will help you decide 🤞🤞🇬🇧
I love to listen to you talk making it awesome that you have a lot to say about that. I think I have mentioned that I print the patterns that call to me and start making notes until I know who it belongs to and the colors. Seems like you are doing that. My thoughts on the wedding quilt: I personally don’t feel any love for either pattern. I’m an earthy outdoorsy person and they just don’t get me an outdoorsy feel. Obviously I love linen. They make the best quilts. Don’t forget to look at dresses. The bride chose several colors for her wedding. My instinct is to go with that first set of colors you picked out. They match the dresses. They match the cake. I think she would love to see all of those colors in her quilt. That would be a quilt she will love forever. The two tone one is saying meh to me. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Thanks, Destry! You know it is so hard to beat linen! And isn't it interesting how a "wow!" for one person is a "meh" for another? Perhaps why there are so many quilt patterns out there to choose from! ❤️
@@TheCatBirdQuilts and so many different fabric lines. I know that whatever you choose will be wonderful. You did ask for my two cents. You’ve shown some wedding photos, I would love to see one that includes the bride and groom.
@@destrygraves we didn’t want to put photos of Aimee and her husband until the quilt is done and we get permission to use their faces in the video! And girl, hear me say I’m thankful for your opinion and I respect it! 😘
@@TheCatBirdQuilts what a nice thing to say. I understand that you want to wait to show the bride and groom with the finished quilt. It’s not on usual for me to actively be working on 5 or 6 quilts at the same time. Once the pieces are cut I chain piece all I have and it’s usually 2 or 3 quilts worth. Different colors and different shapes so they don’t get mixed up. Then I like to iron them while I see what Cathy Martin has to say. ☮️💟
This was a lovely recap of your process when choosing your next quilt. Both patterns were pretty. I really liked the colorful one (without the yellow & yellow plaid). I liked the grey and white better than the tan and white. But, I use a lot of gray in my decor and absolutely no brown shades. Thank you for sharing.
Glad I came across this little bit older video. I’m in That place. I just finished an intensive, pieced row quilt; queen sized….free motion quilted on my midarm Pfaff; for my son and his bride. It was intense, took a lot of planning and layout and color choices from stash. I’m wanting to start my next project now that it was delivered to the new family, but my project pile just isn’t calling me. I did a scrappy fat quarter “kitchen table” plaidish type top. Not inspiring me at all. I’ve got so many choices, but want something that doesn’t have a bunch of repetitive stuff. Sigh…☺️
Susan, I feel this in my bones! It's hard to "go back" and face a project pile that just isn't hitting the inspiration button, isn't it?! It's like that song, "You've lost that loving feeling" --except for quilts! 😂🤪😆 Sometimes the "too many choices" is the biggest problem. I've noticed lately that if I limit myself greatly (only shirts, only solids, only stuff from my stash, pattern from a new quilt designer, technique I've not done before, etc.) it gives me creative juice and then I reward progress on old projects with time spent on the "new" one. I know you didn't ask for suggestions or problem-solving, but I just relate so much that I couldn't not share! 😘
@@TheCatBirdQuilts hey, problem solving or even suggestions are always food for thought! I’ve gone through all of those processes, too. I know I do still love the projects in the waiting pile, but I think it’s the assembly style…or flying geese or half square triangles on overload….but I will persevere!! 🥰
If I was the bride, I would be so thrilled to receive a quilt containing the colors from my wedding. That would mean more and more to me as time passed. Either would be beautiful, but the wedding colors would carry more weight with the memories.
They are both great ideas- I would say that you could make the 2 tone quilt with more than 2 tones of neutals and I think it would be lovely. I personally love that you have her wedding colors and think that could be the more personal one. Great channel!
Patterns and colors you are considering are all beautiful! In my head I am favoring the Blizzard pattern but using white linen for all the backgrounds and using the less vibrant shades of the wedding colors for all of the foregrounds.
Both quilt options are beautiful! The color options for the Melody quilt are just gorgeous! Personally I would pick the colorful one because of the uniqueness off the color pallet and the absolute beauty of it. Plus it would bring ALOT of dopamine to your quilting time 😂. Either option would be a winner for sure ❤!
Oh that is so true...and you know how the dopamine hit makes quilting so enjoyable!! ❤️ I can't take any credit for those gorgeous colors...that is all Aimee's doing! 🥰
First: Thank You so much for Your information about men's dress shirt, a new addict was born :) and as I'm living in the UK a big variety of charity shops supports me very well. In most cases the quality of the shirts is astonishing as well as You find fabric with very high quality. Like You I really celebrate every little treasure hunt. I didn't know about the special weaving of Oxford shirts (so thanks a lot for this, a lot to say with a lot of very valuable information, Your channel is great!) but I loved the iridecent colour this special kind of weaving creates in the Oxford Shirts, they are soo beautiful. If I had to choose between the colourful quilt or the KDspain design in grey/taupe and white I would prefer the second one because I really love the subtle and elegant character this quilt would have and think of all the linen You could work with :)), isn't that tantalizing?. Perhaps You could add a small, paper pieced wedding cake out of all the colours Your friend worked with on her wedding in some edge/corner of the quilt? Keep on the good work! Sue
I love the colors of her wedding. I love the khaki beige for the background color and I like to alternate a print and a solid to help s-t-r-e-t-c-h my fabric so it doesn't look like I ran out of fabric! Lol.
If my vote means anything - I vote for all the colors ! When in doubt - ALWAYS go for most colors is my motto. I'd also go purchase a piece of teal fabric . 😉
Either would be nice, but I would vote for the colorful pattern. And some of the flowers on the cake had yellow in them, so no need to be afraid of adding yellow into the palette.
I know this is a year late and you've probably finished the quilt but here's my 10c worth. I love colour and really don't care for neutrals so much so that I probably couldn't bear to ever make one. If someone gave me a quilt in neutrals It would go straight in the closet, only to come out if the giver visited. However, I have freiends who are the exact opposite and think bright colours are garish. So as a first step, I'd decide whether the recipient is a colour person or a neutrals person.
I love your idea for the linen in the 2 tone quilt - beautiful pattern. I know you said the blocks are large but if it is going beyond the 3X3 you showed I thought you could work from the cream and whites into the grays as the blocks don't really make a strong secondary pattern that would force you to keep the pallet in the same 2 shades throughout. I do love neutrals almost as much as I love rainbows! I look forward to this journey with you no matter which you choose! To me this is the best part - the planning, but I do enjoy the cutting, piecing and of course THE FINISH.
So much to say …. I think the “next quilt” excitement is what gets people through the current quilt doldrums. Re selection process … you have which design, which colours, and are using The Wedding colours, Who Amy is, her current/future decor and her lifestyle (here I am thinking dogs and cats who may be allowed onto beds). So … in that mix, the most central element is who Amy is as a person. What does she like best? Recall you made frog fabric … you do … eh … highly personal quilts really well. Like REALLY well. So I would do a mind map of Amy and use that to inform colour, pattern etc. an object that connects to someone is easiest connected through their … eh … heart-mind. Like you see something and just ooooooo. That’s heart-mind. Or sparks joy. Anyway …. If you need an actual vote, I would go with the snowflake looking quilt (first one) and use the grey/whites but for the centre diamond use the muted shades of her wedding pallet. Special hello to your film crew and the guy in the booth that created the screen splitting. Made me laugh. 😁😁😁💕💕💕💕. I am SO curious to see how this turns out. 💕💕💕
Wow, I would choose the two color quilt, and use the "linen" color for sure. It is so much warmer, whereas the gray is beautiful, but colder or more classic. Where is Nebraska? I live in the western part.
The melody quilt is more personal with all the thought and care you’ve put into colour selection. You’ll be gutted if you start the two tone and then discover you don’t have enough part way through. It can be a more long term project as you gather fabrics, with no time pressures.
Hi Cathy, I can identify with your desire to give a quilt that will be cherished and used for many years. As any quilter will probably tell you, a quilt is a major labor of love and you want the recipient to love and use it. When I give a quilt, I let the person choose what they want. Then I know it hopefully won't spend its life stuffed in a closet. As I listened to your thought process about choosing the pattern and color palette, what came to me was "why don't you ask Amy what she would love?" You may hope to surprise her, but she might be grateful to be included in the process. Just a thought.
Both quilt patterns and fabric pulls are great. For the two toned I personally would miss a little bit of contrast with white/ beige and would lean more to the side of white/ grey or tan. Made a wedding quilt for my sister (finished it half a year after the wedding 🤪) from old table cloth, lace, little coasters and so on. So that quilt lived from the texture and not from the contrast and worked beautifully as well. So I believe what I want to say, if you go with your gut it's just going to be great 🤗
Hi Cathy! Both quilts are beautiful! My choice is the Melody Quilt. But don't use the yellow! I feel like the yellow just turns it into a rainbow quilt. (and maybe she hates yellow!) 😄 I think if you bought some teal to match the gown, it would be perfect! My two cents worth. Can't wait to see what you decide on! 😁❤
Both will be just beautiful. How satisfying would it be to use the linen up? Lol. I haven’t looked closely at the 2 tone pattern but I bet you could incorporate all 3 “beige” shirts. Decisions, decisions. 😊
Oh, you know me... you KNOW I'm interested in leaving my thoughts and opinions in the comments! 😅 Love the color quilt (however I'm deeply skeptical of that yellow and the plaid, though I'd like both in another context) but I would 1000% go with the linen&linen option. So. Very. Luxurious. And timeless--I would never have put my wedding colors in my house. I generally go for greys, and the idea of making one of the two "tones" a pattern and even having different patterns would be pretty. But. The linen gets my vote all day on this one. The sensory richness of that is too yummy to pass up. And the pattern itself comes across more bold and graphic that way, but still neutral. The elegance! The casual classiness! You could even do the quilting in a contrasting color or black to give it another layer of interest while still being neutral but stunning. Ahem. Yes. ANYWAY. One vehement vote for white and linen LINEN!! Although I bet she'll adore whatever you do because either/any of the choices will be beautiful. I think all creatives have the WIP (work in progress) bug. I certainly do. I've done it with crochet and writing and sewing and sometimes even cooking... they just pile up! How do these things happen?? We won't ever die if we have so many projects to finish, right? I'm all the way behind your thought process on that, and thanks for showing us! Makes me feel like I'm not alone.
First let me say, I love all three ideas, the colorful quilt, the grey and white and the creamy and white quilt!! But truly I have a thing for two color quilts, I tried to ignore my fondness for them 🤣 Everytime I see one, I want to touch the fabric and say wow what a beautiful quilt! It's dramatic, it's simple, it's calming! I could go on and on😁 Anyway, the second thing I wanted to say, I have six projects going right now😜 I clearly have an attention problem! But I crumb quilt when I'm not feeling creative, I have a box that I piece tiny houses from scraps, when I just want to have fun. I have another quilt project that is really difficult so I pick a Saturday once in a while I just work on those blocks. I have a granny square block quilt I started and I need 5 more blocks to complete it 🤨. The granny square blocks were a project to prove to myself, I have enough fabric and I don't need to buy anything☺️ Good grief I don't know what is going on with my Brain. I am sure you will chose the right path. Blessings always❤️
Laura, I TOTALLY 100% get this. It is hard to maintain energy and interest on just one quilt! And sometimes a little side project (or two, or three, or....um, five 😉😂) helps reignite that creative energy! You just gotta do you!! ❤️
Love both. Still not bringing myself to buy linen shirts yet. Maybe after another dozen cotton ones☺️. I would love to make a neutral quilt. Very timeless.
I'm a year late, so feel safe commenting as you're probably done and done with this quilt. Had you considered doing the classic neutral quilt in cream/linen, and then a bed scarf in the wedding colours in the melody pattern?
“Use and wear it out.” Thank you for encouraging that wonderful attitude about gifting quilts!
Aww! Thank you, Jenny! ❤️
@@TheCatBirdQuilts but shes still young.
Thank you, Sherry! ❤️
Love the 2 colour quilt idea with the beige linens. Each ‘flower’ could be one shirt OR each flower could be a combination of all the beiges! Yum!
Thanks, Patricia! I, too, love those beige linens! (but it's hard NOT to love linen!❤️)
The neutral linens are a complete win. The colors matched to her floral bouquet has the advantage of being a reminder of that wondrous day, but the linens are a classic choice. That’s my vote!
It's hard to beat a classic choice and it's hard to beat linen, at least in my book! ❤️
I like the neutral colors. My favorite thing about quilting is watching quilting videos and designing quilts.
All the beautiful colors if not as a wedding quilt as a wedding couch throw. BEAUTIFUL
Excellent suggestion! And thanks! ❤️
I like the linen idea as a lovely " practical " choice....save the colors for her baby quilt...lol
And you know I am VERY practical. Love the suggestion for the baby quilt, by the way.❤️
How fantastic that Amy chose colors that work so well for a quilt! Gorgeous colors. PS I can't believe you can sit on the floor like that for so long...impressive!
I agree about the floor sitting!!!
I love the neutral one. I think it fits her better and it would work with any decor. She will love whatever you make!
Thank you, Maria!❤️
Yes, my thoughts exactly. You took the words out of my mouth.
I really like the colorful one best! It would forever make her think of the warmth and love of that special day!
That is true…I think it would indeed do that!
Love the colors of the bride's flowers.... go with that and the Melody design:) Her colors will honor her and the Melody is like wedding rings.
Connie, I hadn't even thought of how the Melody quilt looks like wedding rings! And you're right, those colors would honor her! ❤️
Just tell the bride that her flowers for the wedding are the best I've seen so far ! I would make the quilt with the linen colours.
Elena, I will! she will be thrilled! ❤️
I like the timeless classic look of the linen fabric with the blizzard pattern
Thanks! (me too!)
I vote for the two-tone linen quilt. Less is more. I find a color themed quilt confining to decorate around for the long haul.
I’m inclined to agree! Thanks for the comment!❤
Thank you, Joan! I’m really starting to lean that way….fortunately I have more time to consider so I don’t have to make a decision right now! 👍🏻
Do not encourage me to make 2 quilts, Renea! I have enough as it is. 😂
Although I probably will make something interesting on the back! ❤
I think the neutral linen quilt would be spectacular, given how you’ve described Amy.
Thanks, Susan! ❤
Good for you, Lynda! I'm cheering for you! ❤️🥰
Thank you, Rhonda! ❤️ And my goodness her bouquet was so beautiful for sure!!
Stay well!
Muskoka ON🇨🇦
I love love the melody quilt idea in her colors. It shows a lot more intense & purposeful thought & love
Thanks so much, Pamela! ❤
Great video! I looove love love to hear you link textile fibers and colors with quilt receivers' personality. 😍
Hello and Good Morning! I am in the more colorful Melody quilt group. Both would be lovely though and such a thoughtful gift.
I love your thought process and your loving care on the wedding quilt for your friend 💕
Thank you, Tina! 🥰❤️
Thank you, Kim! 🥰And yes, you are DEFINITELY not alone in this! 🤓
Both are beautiful… love those colors! But…. a linen quilt… so amazing, unique, luxurious.
I vote linen 🙂 (wondering what you will use as backing if that’s the final choice)
Oh what a lucky girl. All the thought you have put into her quilt. I can't wait to see her quilt. Thanks for the video
Thanks, Jeanette! It's a ways away but I guess we'll see what I pick!! 🤓
Thanks, Anita! ❤️
Love your video. If you haven’t made the decision already, I vote the timeless look of neutral colors..she can use it forever and add colors with throw pillows. Especially if this will be large bed size. A smaller quilt would be stunning in the wedding colors! She will love either one!!
Thank you, Sally! And no, I haven’t totally decided…still mulling over options! (But I am leaning toward the neutral one!)
Hi Cathy!! Thanks for your fun insights as always. Since you asked I’m weighing in with my opinion which is to make the quilt in the two color linen but do a fun backing fabric in her colors. That way she has a reminder of the wedding colors but can use the two-tone side up in her decor.
Thank you so much! 🥰 I have been considering that very thing! (colors on the backing) Great minds think alike! ❤️
The Blizzard would be my choice for a wedding quilt, but the colors of her wedding are glorious.
Right?! Just so beautiful! 😍
I love the multiple colors. You could use her colors as the center of the flowers, so there's a touch of color yet neutral pallet for any setting.
Monica, you are the second (at least) person to suggest that, so maybe it's a sign! 🤩Thanks for the suggestion! ❤️
I vote the neutral linen quilt but add a special small pieced block on the backing with her wedding colors as a “hidden” reminder. As time goes on she may hate her wedding colors 🙈
My thoughts, too!!
Can't go wrong with neutral colours goes with nearly everything and are timeless xx
Right?! It's that timelessness that is so appealing to me.Well and that quilt pattern is beautiful which also doesn't hurt. 😉😂🤓
Thanks, Christine! ❤️
Hi Cathy,
I love your videos and look forward to seeing each one. You are appreciated
Thank you, Pamela! 🥰❤️
I see you have equal votes for the two options. Tiny Orchard Quilts made a Wonky Log Cabin using orange centers with grays for the logs. That block would allow you to use Amy's colors in the centers and your linen neutrals for the logs. Perfect!
I love Tiny Orchard Quilts! Thanks for the suggestion!
May you and your new spouse have a lifetime of love and joy!
Gena, I had a VERY similar thought this very morning. I don't go into quilt projects thinking of them as "reversible" but this time I might! ❤️
I really think it would be the best of both worlds! 🤩
Thanks a lot- you are really putting a wrench into my new year’s resolution to finish before starting another, but that is ok, you just reminded me to be ME - AND finish 😊. Love the two toned quilt idea!!!!!!
Lorena, I lol'd! But you're right...wanting to start a new project is JUST what is needed to get moving on our current projects! 🤩🥰
Thanks, Carol!❤️ That's a great idea about the label! 🤓👍🏻
Linen & white definitely!! But all the options are beautiful. Love the RUclips series. I watch from Houston & am a male quilter.
Duly noted! I have to tell you I love the men quilters…you guys are great! ❤ And Lord knows we need some men commenters (and viewers) to give a little balance and a different perspective! So glad you’re here with me and thanks for the comment! 🥰
@@TheCatBirdQuilts thanks! To beautiful quilts!!
I’m @texcurtis if you wanna see my work.
Fun video! Beautiful ideas. Maybe your future job could be selling custom-assembled quilt kits :)
I see to make quilts for wedding gifts but not for a long time. Everyone wants matchy matchy duvets, pillow covers curtains bed skirts.
I really like the gray and white quilt best. It is something you haven’t really done yet.
I love to listen to you talk making it awesome that you have a lot to say about that.
I think I have mentioned that I print the patterns that call to me and start making notes until I know who it belongs to and the colors. Seems like you are doing that.
My thoughts on the wedding quilt:
I personally don’t feel any love for either pattern.
@@TheCatBirdQuilts have you considered making it a reversible quilt. One pattern on each side?
This was a lovely recap of your process when choosing your next quilt. Both patterns were pretty. I really liked the colorful one (without the yellow & yellow plaid). I liked the grey and white better than the tan and white. But, I use a lot of gray in my decor and absolutely no brown shades. Thank you for sharing.
You fascinate me I'm also from Nebraska I enjoy your videos I enjoy what you talk about an or what your maybe thinking you do beautiful work
Oh my goodness, thank you so much! ❤️
Keep on keeping on an putting such beautiful quilts out there be safe an take care my new sewing friend thankyou for responding to me 💝
Glad I came across this little bit older video.
Thanks, Dorris! Definitely something to consider!
They are both great ideas- I would say that you could make the 2 tone quilt with more than 2 tones of neutals and I think it would be lovely. I personally love that you have her wedding colors and think that could be the more personal one. Great channel!
Thank you so much! ❤️
Patterns and colors you are considering are all beautiful! In my head I am favoring the Blizzard pattern but using white linen for all the backgrounds and using the less vibrant shades of the wedding colors for all of the foregrounds.
Hmm! Interesting idea! 🤔 Will now consider! Thanks for the suggestion! ❤️
All great ideas but I really loved the idea of the linen two tone quilt 🏴
Thanks, Samantha! ❤️
Sue
Thanks, Sue! I’m so glad you found my channel!❤️
I love the colors of her wedding. I love the khaki beige for the background color and I like to alternate a print and a solid to help s-t-r-e-t-c-h my fabric so it doesn't look like I ran out of fabric! Lol.
Right?!? Sometimes we have to get creative! 😂
If my vote means anything - I vote for all the colors ! When in doubt - ALWAYS go for most colors is my motto. I'd also go purchase a piece of teal fabric . 😉
Everyones vote means everything! 😘 So far it looks like the colors one is "winning" but who knows what I'll do in the end!! 😂🤓
ps I like that motto! ❤️
Either would be nice, but I would vote for the colorful pattern. And some of the flowers on the cake had yellow in them, so no need to be afraid of adding yellow into the palette.
I am working on two wedding quilts now.
Thank you, grandma! And I do love neutrals but haven't done a quilt in them yet! and YES to the planning---the very best part. ❤️
It’s true, I would be gutted! 😱I guess we’ll just have to wait and see….I have a while before I can start it anyway!!
Make both. 😮. White and neutral colors for a wedding quilt. Colorful for a special gift later? 🍁
Hi Cathy,
I can identify with your desire to give a quilt that will be cherished and used for many years.
Thank you, Jo, and that is a wonderful reminder! ❤️
Wow, tough decision. I just hope you share with us whatever you do . Good luck deciding
You know I will!! ❤️
So I believe what I want to say, if you go with your gut it's just going to be great 🤗
Julia, you and at least a couple of other commenters believe in my gut! 😂 Thank you for the vote of confidence and also for weighing in! ❤️
Veronica, RIGHT?!? On all counts. ❤️
Aww, thanks Steff! And yes, right?!? I mean, LINEN!
😂🤓😘
First let me say, I love all three ideas, the colorful quilt, the grey and white and the creamy and white quilt!! But truly I have a thing for two color quilts, I tried to ignore my fondness for them 🤣 Everytime I see one, I want to touch the fabric and say wow what a beautiful quilt! It's dramatic, it's simple, it's calming! I could go on and on😁
Anyway, the second thing I wanted to say, I have six projects going right now😜 I clearly have an attention problem!
If you decide on the Spain quilt, you could use a different gray for each flower block. That would be pretty.
I agree! (And had a similar thought!) 😘
