Samaritan is an absolute blockbuster from start to finish
I figured out the twist about half way through, but the 3rd act revelation still gave me chills. Really great movie all in all.
Bravo to all involved ! Samaritan had the right attitude and running time !!! A fifth franchise for Stallone !!!
I LOVED the Ending's plot twist... ' I SEE Dead people' of a proportion🤣👌
Loved it. Saw the twist coming during opening credits.
"If there was only bad people doing bad things, it’d be easy to get rid of them. But the real truth is, good and bad live in everybody’s heart. And it’s gonna be up to you to make the right choice."
Stallone always has inspirational quotes in his films especially in the Rocky franchise.
If half your decisions turn out bad. Your bad lol you can love your mamma but it doesn't erase busting some caps
“There’s always something waiting at the end of the road. If you’re not willing to see what it is, you probably shouldn’t be out there in the first place.”

It was highly entertaining. The plot twist was brilliant. Stallone in his late 70's is still a force.
It really wasn't much of a plot twist. I predicted right away that he was the Nemesis and not Samaritan to the point I rolled my eyes at the "reveal".
But it was predictable tho.. i knew he was not the Samaritan.. the story was good but they could have done more.
Stallone epitome of Old man strength!
I'm the bad guy....
DUH
LMAO. So much wrong with the comment except the Stallone part.
I enjoyed this film. The redemption arc is becoming a sub-genre in the superhero category. If this were Blockbuster video, the tape would be right next to Hancock. I picked up on the twist in the opening scene. As soon as I heard twin, I knew that Joe was Nemesis. There were plenty of clues pointing out that Joe was not Samaritan throughout the film. When the kid called him Samaritan, Joe said he was not him and often got angry, also when the kid said that Samaritan saved his dad, Joe had no memory of this because it was not him. The hammer scenes also were another clue. Joe seemed to have a psychic bond whenever the hammer was being used. The acting was not great overall, but the kid managed to sell the story. If there is a sequel, then I would definitely watch it because there are still more unanswered questions about Joe that I would like to see fleshed out.
I actually Enjoyed the acting At certain times It was weird but overall I enjoyed it in my opinion
Plus the opening title card showed the name of samaritan on the hammer made by nemesis, which for me gave the idea that joe(nemesis) will take over the role of samaritan
Hancock was 1000x better than Samaritan.
To even compare them makes me sad.
@@xenomorphV1 I respectfully disagree. As a FBA, I found Hancock one of the most insulting films to blacks in modern film.
Yeah, I knew he was Nemesis from the start, but still enjoyed the movie. Also I saw a kinda batman reference with the vayne graffiti sign that looked like Wayne...
Even though the ending was easy to see coming a mile away, it still boosted strong performances, especially from Javon Walton, who deserves a successful career afterwards.
Yes, the kid did a great job and I hope to see him in more movies.
The Connections (2021) [short documentary] 🌳🌳
I actually didn't see that coming I though he actually was Samaritan
@@hoodiek6802 yeah i thought he was Samaritan but in the ending Nemesis was gonna be alive and they would fight
@@davideassis87 the kid was awful. I was getting sage Stallone ptsd from watching him
I liked it, it focuses on the concept of good and evil, flipping it on its head, saying that it exists in each of us. When Stallone said "Im the bad guy" I felt like that was the best line in the movie.
Sorry but “have a blast” was hands down the best line in the movie
@@FaZeZombieslayer 😂 gotta watch it again
They way he yelled it out seemed cathartic for the character. He had lost his parents, he had caused pain as a result while being Nemesis, and this lost his brother. He had been fixing thing ever since that time. That primal moment fixed him.
I agree... "You keep calling me the good guy. I'm not the good guy. I'm the bad guy!" That pumped me up
It had layers like Shrek, that's for sure. When he tells Cyrus he's the "bad guy", yeah, he's letting the dude know he was Nemesis. But Nemesis held himself as the "anti-" hero right up until that final confrontation with his brother. His failure to save his brother made him feel like the villain and caused him to truly consider himself the Bad Guy. It was saving Sam that finally gave him a sense of closure. I'm actually very glad that Cyrus was a follower of the misconceptions about Nemesis instead of some blood relation. Had Cryus actually been family, Joe probably would have stayed in there until his heat-prone system gave out on him.
I watched it today and it's a very, very fun movie. It could be so much better as a R-Rated flick, but is still a good time.
Yeah if it was a hard R I would have enjoyed more. Gore for gore's sake.
Same, I was expecting it to be R cause Amazon also made the boys and that show is full on R
Everything doesn’t have to be R to be good…🤷🏾♀️
This is a movie that doesn't get really good until it's third act. There is great potential. I'd like to see a follow up movie that goes deeper and explores Joe Smith's arc more

To be honest, the only thing which is really annoying is, that it is one movie (it creates basically a universe - and it just ends, keeping you to see more).
I actually prefer, that Sam and Joe are not related. It is just how things work out in reality. Also: it is great to see, that even a superhero has limits and has some weaknesses. The super hero genre have normally heroes and their nemesis far too overpowered.
So yes- dope show.
Joe and Cyrus related....not Joe and Sam... at 7:18 ... I mean it still could be if they made another one, because Cyrus acts very shaken by it. It might also explain how Cyrus was able to at least stand up to Joe some.
I enjoyed it.
In terms of alt endings I think having the villain redeemed in the end, rather than be killed, would have been nice.
The villain wasn't entirely set up to be a BBEG. His motivations for his actions are centered around feelings of injustice and grief. His crew were also people who had been abandoned or victimized based on one of the crew member's words.
Like a younger Nemesis their actions were spurred by the failings occurring in the city. Failings that may have been caused, or at least furthered by, Nemesis's old conflicts with the city and his brother.
Nemesis would be able to recognize a lot of what they had gone through. He lost loved ones due to others, he wanted to make those people hurt, and he wanted to provide what he saw as justice to those like him. However he also knows where that path ultimately leads and that he was wrong about some things. Things he learned too late and at the cost of his brother.
Having Nemesis explain that, while also empathizing with them, and getting the villain to abandon his own plan/rage in response would have been an amazing callback for me. In this way he would have saved the villain in the same way his brother saved him.
Technically the villain (Joe) was redeemed.
@Esphaeras Praestans agree
I liked the movie. It was entertaining. There was a simple but brutal-ness to the action scenes that as refreshing. I thought the twist was a little to easy to predict but most comic/superhero stories are so everyone will have their own pinion on that. I would recommend a watch if you like the genre. Does a good job not over explaining every single thing. Here is the world and these are the people that exist in it.
My first hunch once it's mentioned they're twins was Stallone is Nemesis. I even thought Cyrus dad was Nemesis and Stallone was really Samaritan with Cyrus seeking revenge on him
I loved this movie and the little twist toward the end. One of Sylvester Stallone’s best movies in a long time. He has always been one of my favorite actors and I love his back story. If you haven’t read how he got started in acting it is a great one to read up on.
I loved it! It was simple and straightforward, and it was a blast.
Definitely gonna watch the sequel if they make one.
This was a fun movie just to have fun with it. I thought of a different idea in that Samaritan was actually Sam's mother's father, and he, after losing his brother, stayed around to watch over his brothers' daughter and grandson with a new ending of Sam finding out he also has the powers transferred to him, and Joe stays around to have Sam grow up to be the new Samaritan. But the idea of Cyrus as Joe's son would have added much to the movie, But all in all, it's just a fun superhero movie and very enjoyable.
Sometimes what you enjoy is just a good action movie. It is not going to win academy awards but it was much more fun to watch than some of the more....carefully wording this.....touchy feeling movies of this era that seem to come out every month.
I really loved this film. Very well done and redemption is always a good sell if done correctly. The only thing for me is after the ultimate battle, the Nemesis character didn't seem to need cooling down, so he watched from the crowd instead of seeking cooling.
Watched it twice...entertaining both times. Pacing and character development were spot on. And the line--"I'M THE BAD GUY" was pure Stallone at his best. Recommend highly, it is just the best kind of escape I need...
Sylvestor Stallone still brings in a solid movie just like Liam Neeson does in the last 10 years. Good story, lots of action and some good dialogue and a bit of a twist at end.
Awesome film, unexpected but, to be expected with Stallone. The dude still brings it! What a legend, and this was the perfect movie for him late in his career, as he’s already a superhero to a lot of us. Also, like any Stallone movie, you walk away with a great lesson. “Good and bad love inside all our hearts, and it’s up to you to make the right choice”.
I think it was very well written. There are several standard plot points but the twist comes and I never saw it. That brings this movie from just another super hero film to an amazing film
This movie was predictable, cheesy and fun as hell!!!!! Lol! Loved the 90’s one liners too! lol…. Loved it! lol… 😂😂😂
Just watched it last night, while everyone here saw the twist coming, I didnt, which made the movie interesting for me. It was a good watch, I dont mind it having a sequel, and if they dont, its alright as well.
Like many others, I also figured out the twist during the early scenes. I hoped it wouldn't be so obvious, that they'd do a twist on a twist, like that he actually IS Samaritan, but pretends to be Nemesis, because Samaritan was the actual villain many years ago, and his popular public persona was his way to win over Nemesis and accomplish his nefarious plan..
Or that Samaritan and Nemesis were actually the same person, with multiple personality disorder, which is why they were not really seen at the same time - until that fateful night many years ago, when they joined and fused together.
Or something better, I am sure there are many such ideas.
But oh well. Pretty obvious but still sufficiently enjoyable. :)
I figured Joe was Nemesis early on, but i still expected a twist where samaritan was actually the bad guy.
But the reveal is amazing so, its ok they left it at that.
If Cyrus was nemesis son, id think he know how his father would look like
Even if he didn't, been done dozens of times like in Star Wars
Yeah that would’ve worked if Joe was wearing a mask, and then after it was broken off, Cyrus could have the moment of shock at seeing his father alive.
@@kenthefele113 could have but doubt the director or Stallone would want to hide his face under a mask
Nemesis and Samaritan were twins...
@@StarAllKungfu It pains me when you obvious answer is missed.
The question I would like to actually be answered is how did Samaritan and Nemesis got that powers? Do you guys actually think that Sam will become the new Samaritan after he goes through training. Samaritan went into the fire but we do not know if they actually found his body. Apparently they never said they was actually found anybody's body in the flames.
That's true. Maybe at a certain age the kid will become like them and he is somehow related to them like a grandson.
i doubt its training that would get a normal kid to become that powerfull
@@sadev101 True He Isn't Saitama After All
if Samaritan and Nemesis(joe) have the same powers and weaknesses then Samaritan is most likely dead, the battle before his fall and the fall itself most likely hurt him. add the heat of the fire and his heart probably went boom.
Looking back at it after knowing the twist which i originally didnt see coming but now i see all the hints at it
“You keep calling me the good guy….I’m not the good guy…I’m the bad guy!” Best line of the movie!
I loved this movie. It had the gritty feel of a comic film from yesteryear and felt like it was in its own world as opposed to the current status quo genre it’s become where everything feels realistic.
I liked the tone here and the crazy looks for some of the bad guys. This was to me what Dick Tracy was for it’s genre. Just a fun world for us to explore and not question the logistics.
Btw hilarious adding the “everybody can change”. That legit made me laugh out loud.
Love the movie, hope they make a sequel.
What I liked about Joe was he never lied to Sam once when he talked about himself and Samaritan. That’s what made the ending so good for me at least.
Great film. Another Stallone classic. With one of the best scenes in a super hero movie ever so far."You keep calling me the good guy"
I realized that Samaritan was really Nemesis when he sensed the Hammer being stolen and waking him up from his sleep due to the hammer being a part of him.
I liked how Sam and Cyrus weren't related to Samaritan or Nemesis. They just admired the parts in them that were similar, or at least thought were. It can be a powerful motivator to be enchanted by seeing yourself reflected in another person. Especially a powerful one when you feel alone and helpless. And them you get powerful twins who differ in opinions and fight. But they basically have the same blood and DNA.
totally great and the cyrus samaritan part when cyrus finds out its nemesis is a VERY GLORIOUS moment and its a very good lesson for us all AS HUMANS, hmm?
I hope Joe keeps helping people instead of going back to the shadows. personally, I liked this movie and it's a pretty cool superhero flick you should check out.
im not a smart man but i didn't realize anyone needed this ending explained.
Stallone’s “you keep calling me the good guy” gave me chills
Badass line
the line of "why do you keep calling me that. im not the good guy, I'M THE BAD GUY" was so good. now the movie was above average so not the best but it was good and im curios to see it keep going. they never found the samaritan's body so they could do something with that and what if they werent the only two. i think there is a line about fighting others so maybe that?
Why is there always someone who looks up to the villain and tries to finish the master plan only for it to turn out the villain didn’t have one and it was a trap? 😂
Thoroughly enjoyed this movie when I saw it a year ago. Cannot believe this one never made it actually at the box office, but good that I'm a prime member. :)
I love this movie! Every time I see one of these aging stars, who were big in my younger days, make another movie, I try not to expect much. But, I'm surprised every time. Even with 90+ year old Clint Eastwood. The upcoming generation of ''superstars'' can't hold a match to the veterans and that is sad. The oldies can still put out near-masterpieces and the current generation hasn't learned how to do it right, yet.
I actually figure out the twist at the halfway point when he said that everything needs a second chance. It was still a good above the normal superhero movie with a lot of heart. It's different and doesn't follow the Marvel formula so that's good.
I like how at the end seen where Joe is walking away you can see the nemesis logo but in the samariton white which is a nice touch to his redemption
Loved this movie and the plot twist blew my mind! A little slow going at first but nothing really to complain about. I'd love to see a sequel!
The brothers never actually needed to be brothers much less twins, since both wore masks. Also I'm pretty sure Cyrus entire look was based off Keifer Sutherland's David from The Lost Boys.
During the making of Christopher Reeves Superman, Stallone was one the guys who eagerly want to land the role of Superman. Now Sly has his chance to play a superhero.
It was simple, entertaining, and i liked the plot twist though you could see it coming. All in all a very good movie.
It is really not bad. Good to see Stallone still got it.
Definitely a refresher from the usual super hero stuff we get these days
For anyone else trying to get an actual explanation, the first 6 minutes of the video was a recap of the movie, and the last 2 were an explanation of the ending. From this video, yes, one brother did try to save the other (instead of just letting him fall to his death).
From the moment you began describing the movie, it was obvious that the twist was going to be that he was actually the other twin.
Well the reason why Joe faded back into the crowd was he did not want people to become dependant on someone else to fix their problems but instead needed to learn to fix their problems themselves and that everyone is capable of good or evil and it's up to the people to decide which one they choose to be.
The twist itself was pleasant, but not unexpected. The main clue for me was the Hammer, Joe's seeming connection with the weapon and the flashbacks to it being forged by Nemesis. I doubt we would have seen those flashbacks if Joe had been the actual Samaritan.
It's a solid film, Not Stallone's best but not his worst.
tbh i think the build up to the twist wasn't good enough and they definitely should have made it clear that Cyrus was trying to finish what he saw as nemesis final plan along. Also the finales pacing didn't really work for me, I think that it would have worked better if Joe didn't instantly get the hammer to fight the goons and should have made him visibly steaming more and more to make it seem more like a struggle as he tried to get to the kid with the reveal happening that Joe isn't Samaritan when he is fighting on the top floor when Joe takes the hammer from Cyrus.
The storyline was solid the effects were up there and i can see why Stallone took on the Role of Samaritan. Can't help but feel a tad disappointed, however. Don't get me wrong It had all the qualities of a good movie, but something was missing the fight scenes looked too choreographed for me. and standing your ground under a hail of bullets screamed blanks.
Really enjoyed this fil.
Was still confused coz he seemed bulletproof and other times the bullet goes through him, still, I love the movie
think more along of wolverine. he not bulletproof just a quick healer. but if his body has to heal too much it start to overheat which push stress to his heart till it may explode. that why he sometimes tries to block to avoid excessive damage
I fully expected him to be Nemesis because he reacted to Cyrus picking up his hammer at the police storage in the beggining of the movie, he ran away from the city chaos and he really disliked helping people.
I think we all knew he was Nemesis from the fight scene with the gang.
I feel like they didn’t need to be twins for the twist to have worked. I mean their faces were never shown to us when they were Samaritan and Nemesis and they did have masks so it’s feasible to assume the public never saw them.
I might be wrong, but in the (very) brief instant before Samaritan fell you did get to see his face, and it didn't look like Stallone's face to me. Which, again to me, implied that they weren't identical twins. For some reason when the word "twins" is used people always assume identical, but fraternal twins are a thing too. And, from what I understand, fraternal twins are more common as well.
It's an old tale and in real life as well, when it's hard to forgive sin and yourself you have remorse to the things you've done and try to fix things, but cannot escape the past. Only by trying to do good and redeem yourself is the key the problem is acceptance and did the person really changed? As seen in this movie Nemesis was really heart broken when he lost his brother not by his hand in battle by an accident where he tired to do good to save him because he was spared which haunted him, now he transitions from villain to anti hero to hero in the course of the movie. It was a great watch.
Enjoyed this movie especially the plot twist though they almost gave it away in the toaster scene. Still can't beat Stallone when he states "You keep calling me the good guy, I'm not the good guy!" Flash back to Rambo Last Blood anyone? Amazing the work he has done lately, proof to me that real men are hard to get rid of. 😂😂
Sylvester Stallone is the king of franchises!!!! Never doubt his creativeness and knack for making underdog heroes
Just finished this movie and it’s definitely a recommendation the story was definitely rolling smooth for me and they chemistry the actors gave was definitely great
I think a lot of people missed the point of Samaritan. It's a parable about hate, and what happens if someone lets it rule them. That's why the ending of Cyrus & the hammer was poetic.
The minute they said they were Twins in the first few minutes of the movie, they telegraphed their twist, along with the intentional avoidance of the topic by the main character Joe.
I would have enjoyed it 10x more if they had just said brothers and then you find out they weren't just brothers but twins later in the story.
I also would have loved it if the lore had left out the whole Sauron take of forging a weapon and pouring his malice into it... they are essentially mutants, they only had physical abilities... that kept it grounded in a reality that you could reasonably suspend your disbelief... but when you start talking about forging a hammer and putting his blood giving the hammer supernatural powers... you've now blown past it for no reason. The whole movie would have still worked without the whole hammer being 'special'. I know they somehow needed a way to try to even out a normal human vs a superhuman conflict at the end, but I figured he was getting weaker the more his heart was racing, they didn't need the hammer to be magical. It worked for Lord of the Rings because they whole thing takes place in a world where magic, otherworldly things exist and not in our current known reality.
If those two things would have changed, I would have found it more entertaining. It took a bit to get into it, but then I found it enjoyable until the hammer came back into play and was just waiting for the twist to be revealed.
The only part I really laughed at was when Cyrus talked to the kid about Nemesis, and pulled his shirt back to reveal his Nemesis tattoo on his chest... did he forget about the Nemesis tattoo on his face??
Mildly entertaining and mindless fun. Probably won't watch it again.
Samaritan is standard superhero movie and I'd definitely recommend it. if they ever make another movie based on Samaritan, I would wanna see a grown up Sam take Nemesis hammer and become the new Samaritan. Thus having Joe come back and train Sam on how to use his hammer

I wish they would have explained more of the reason nemesis set a trap for samaritan. So that means he was tring to kill him and felt bad when he died? I don't get it
I didn't get this part too. who set the trap?
My take on it was he set the trap to kill Samaritan but seeing as Samaritan had the chance to kill Nemesis and didn’t it made him have a change of heart
@@jimmylarson7856 I am thinking more a long the line that nemisis kill all the people he wanted revenge on so he was looking to his end sucide that why when sam had the hammer he had his arm spread open and why the place was on fire. I loved that movie, the final twist, oufffff breath taking. And for Stallone, he's slow, a little bit bigger around the belly, but it fit with the personnage, I,m just surprise that for a super power of regeneration like his, he's not like wolfverine, keep it younger, but well, that's okay. Honestly, I enjoyed it. I had an idea early on that possibly he was Nemesis, but I wasn't sure. The more that you see him restraining and holding back the anger, it was clear and by time of the reveal I was so hoping it WAS the case and it turned out to be. I think if he was Samaritan, it just would have been a let down. I am glad it went the way it did. It had flaws, as most stuff does; but it was decent overall. I may watch it again sometime, something I rarely do with modern movies anymore.

I really enjoyed the movie. Glad I gave it a chance! The only thing I was left longing for was more Samaritan/Nemesis background lore, like what specifically they fought over and what led up to their epic fight at the power plant. Just an overall better sense and understanding of what was behind everything. Like I still don’t get what exactly happened there that night..
Loved the twist.
I not a movie reviewer where I have to hate everything..... so I really like this movie.
My wife and I watched this and enjoyed it. We both figured out the twist before it was revealed. I also think Cyrus being his son would not have worked because he would have probably let Cyrus live, which would have been a mistake in the plot.
It was a good action family film really old school. A simple story with good action me and my boy loved it wish more movies were like this.
Your own version or twist to the story seems more exciting that add more bang to the ending. If only they listen to you, lol nice one.
I would highly recommend this movie. Seen it 3 times already and just love it. It's a great was to reopen the anti hero genre. I saw that twist coming with Joe's first flashback nightmare but the big reveal was perfectly executed
Great review. Thought the movie was definitely worth seeing.
I enjoyed it. Although the 1st 30 second of it told me what was going to happen. Knowing that, I still enjoyed it. My one regret is that there wasnt an end credits scene where Joe actually dons his brothers suit and goes out to make amends. THAT would have been cool. In any event, I'd love to see a sequel.
