Wow, this is going to be a challenging summer for you. I had a slightly similar situation when com ed came in two summers ago to replace those huge electrical poles. While it did not affect my property so directly, they did clear out a ton of trees behind me for easier access to the poles and their equipment. Definitely changed the privacy of the home just like for you. The good thing is that I have a lot more areas of sun . Hopefully this will be an opportunity for you to try some different things in the area they cleared for the sewer. Glad they didn't plow thru your new food forest at least!

It will be, for sure! I was more concerned about the hügelkultur beds, but we really lucked out there. I’m already thinking about what we can plant once we get our yard back in about six months.

I have a similar situation. Our lot backs up to a farmers field. I found out after buying the house that we have the last extra large lot on my street. I then wondered why the previous owner didnt fence another 25 to 30 feet of the lot at the back of the yard like my neighbor did. 10 years ago I found out, we have a buried petroleum pipe in that area. BP came in and knocked down my neighbors back fence and dug a deep pit to get to the pipe for maintenance. They replaced it when they were done. Its a shame I cant use that part of the lot, but it probably isnt a good idea to grow food there anyway. Even so I mainly do container gardening because of the pipe.

Yikes! Yeah you definitely wouldn’t want to grow there, but at least you’re able to grow somewhere. I think they’re done with the main construction work now, they just have to lay new sod and take out the fences. We may have our yard back sooner than expected but I’m not sure what that will look like.

hey! how did you hollow out those stumps to turn into planters? I have a bunch of nice logs/stumps and I'm looking for more ideas on how to use them.

Thanks for asking! I made a video about that last year. Here’s the link: How to Make a LOG PLANTER for Your Garden | Various Methods
