I miss this types of content form DKDKTV. Having said that, I wish the Weeknd isn’t made synonymous with retro new wave synth pop. He doesn’t own the genre and isn’t the only one doing retro from it. Jimin’s like crazy reminds us who are old enough of how the new wave when it was new could have sounded like if it came in 2023 and Jimin’s song is a perfect embodiment of this. Think A-ha “Take On Me” and Spandau Ballet “Gold” taken to the next level. Thanks for sharing your list.
i love this generation of confident girl group songs!
I'm so sad about the whole disaster surrounding fifty fifty... I liked their whole debut album and both cupids. I was so looking forward to a group that has an emphasis on just pure vocal talent again similar to mamamoo. Especially Aran's vocals are so beautiful and unique and her technique, jazzy influences... I hope there is some way for them to start again in some form or another. If you listen to Aran's "Day One" or "Just the two of us" covers it will amaze you and it makes me so sad that she could lose her chance to share her voice so soon after debut.

I listen to "like crazy" everyday. So enchating. Love it. Astronaut and like crazy are best BTS solos for me, recently.
Also I listen to "Ditto" and " hurt" by Newjeans a lot. Really like the melody and their voices. Their young ages and the way they are marketed with high fashion modeling make me reluctant to follow them more.
why do those things make you reluctant to follow them? they’re young talented girls who deserve the recognition 😊

Haegeum is at the very top of my list. Like Crazy's retro feel is great, Jimin sounds amazing, and it's an earworm. And Ateez's Bouncy! Great video too.

Then there are songs like Rover, Like crazy, OMG, Shoong, Kitsch, I am, Giddy, Super which i either liked some parts more compared to other parts or I got bored easily.
Then there's song like Ay yo which i liked but didn't listened too much.
I love Le Sserafim, their voices and their sophistication, they're really great! And I am happy to see Jimin in this list, he had such a great first solo album, I love it.

I have a lot of cross over with you list, but it’s sorely lacking some ATEEZ! Bouncy will probably be the Song of the Year for me :) Wasn’t a huge fan of the Jimin release but I did love all the Suga stuff. Excited to see what JK does, too!

10 Queencard- G-Idle
Honestly I thought about choosing “Allergy” because I like the message a lot, but I decided to just go with QC. The lyrics are eh, but it’s just so catchy and bounces around in my head all the time. Who am I to deny its power? 😂
9. Rockstar- xikers
I found this song randomly, and I love the energy of the song!! It’s so youthful and hyperactive.
8. Jump- P1Harmony
Also, such a fun song! It ranks a bit higher because of the cool space bubbles in the video and because Keeho is, and will always be, that bish 😂😂
7. Bouncy- Ateez
Probably not my favorite from their album, but I decided to go with songs that have MVs so I could include that in my ranking (yes, I am a nerdy and actually went through and ranked my faves). Love the cowboy, Devil-may-care vibe of the video and, of course, the song is a certified bop!
6. Super- Seventeen
Again not my favorite from the album, but that’s because the album is so, so good, and this song is definitely still so fantastic!
5. Bite Me-Enhypen
I love this song!! I love vampire or eerie concepts in K-pop generally, but they really got me with this song! The video is great and the song does not get stale. It’s a staple of my summer. ❤
4. FNF- Stray Kids
I am a Stay primarily, but all of the songs from Five Star with a video release, this is definitely my favorite. It’s much more of a sentimental song than the others on the list, but I love the sort of double- meaning of the lyrics. The longing for a person, but also longing for nature that has been lost as Felix and Bang Chan had the Australian bush fires in mind when writing it. It’s a beautiful and unique song. I sort of wish their was more to the video concept, but definitely a top favorite of the year so far!
3. Bon Voyage- Dreamcatcher
I am falling so hard for Dreamcatcher lately and this song and video have really caught my attention! I love the lyrics, the vocals, the visuals! These girls are top!
2. Set Me Free-Jimin
I was actually surprised how high I ended up ranking this as I am not as into BTS these days, but there is no doubt, this song and video are masterful. The lyrics, Jimin’s haunting voice, the epic choreo and style of the video. 👨🍳💋

I really like you list! The first song that came to mind was 'Eve, Psycho and Bluebeard's wife' , but after some thought, I think 'Fighting' might actually be my favorite from this list. This song really cheered me up in the dark times. Happiness really comes from BooSeokSoon!

Omg i missed youu! I agree le serafim has been really strong. I dont agree with OMG at #1, i feel like its missing something..lately with kpop, I do enjoy lot of them with the performances but as song itself, they haven’t been making me addicted to them this year. My favorites are unforgiven, eve psyche, and jimin’s set me free and suga’s whole new album. Haegeum ended everyone tbh but that’s probably because im more of a rap music listener 😂

I think (G)i-dle’s Queencard is difficult to separate from Allergy but that probably still counts as one entry, not two(?). Thanks for giving us something to consider and discuss. Also, fwiw, you have no argument from me at all for two slots for Le SSERAFIM. Hmm, even though it’s mostly about the dance, maybe Shoong! deserves some consideration?

No, I think you slept on J-Hope's "On The Street", Kai's "Rover", Taeyang/Jimin's "Vibe", and AgustD "Haegeum" and "Snooze". "Cupid" isn't on my list at all because it sounds like a song made by AI, regardless of how popular it is, it's so formulaic. I guess I based my list on a) musical quality b) lyrics c) stays in your mind d) lasting impact.

i personally dont get the hybe around the girl groups. it´s to cuty for me. but i also don´t like the hard hitting noisy boy group songs. kpop is not really something i vibe with maybe a few songs besides from BTS.
but i have to say Jimin has my two favorite kpop songs this year. set me free pt two was a mix between On and black swan it was an anthem. but like crazy is MY TOP SONG it is so good. the weeknd music i really love so it make sense.
but i also loved haegum actually d-day might be my favorite album because it has no skips. i think Suga is just amazing he knows what we want to hear and his concert was just so cool i have never seen anything like that.

David I think you missed XG. I can see why you wouldn’t put them in with K-pop but they are using the same system. Frankly they have just smashed western music with their sound. So good. Really loved Jimin inclusion. Sad to see what happened to Fifty/Fifty.

6. Seventeen Super: Finally seventeen puts out a song i absolutely love again. A real bop.

I do not like New Jeans music. It is like listening to a kids-bop cassette tape in the 90's. Not my type of music and I do not see how it can appeal to many above the age of 17. My style is: Blackpink, Itzy, Aespa, La Serrifim, (G)Idle, Jessi, & (still) Momoland..
I felt the same way about Jisoo's Flower. It gets better each time I hear it. The lyrics do not translate well to English so it is a bit awkward for non Korean speakers to get it. I would love for her to do an English version. I was shocked as I thought she was going to do a rock song like Evanescense "Bring Me to Life" type of song or something similar to "Clarity".
I'm 40 and I LOVE the throwback vibe of New Jeans first EP. It sounds like an elevated version of all the Brit pop/ dance music I grew up listening to. Ditto and Attention in particular were instant love for me.
