Hey man, glad to see you're still making videos. A few years ago, it was one of your videos that inspired my son and me to get into ham radio, and it's been a wild ride. Thanks for being one of the best RUclipsrs for just showing lots of ham radio stuff!
I have the CGJ-100 you showed. Mine auto tunes with just 7 watts so most of the popular QRP radios out there these days should work just fine. One thing to remember is that the tuner uses latching relays that don't draw power once they're set, so that 400ma draw is only there during tune function. The current draw of the OLED display is minimal, so the built in battery will last longer than you think. It's a great unit to throw into your go bag. 73, de N4QM
I have the MAT 705 coupled to my 705 and my Eagle One vertical. So far I’m quite pleased with the tuner, still working out some bugs with one of my portable antennas. Keep up the great videos Eric, see you maybe field day.
ICOM blew it by not including an internal tuner. That would be a game changer. So, I scored the Xiegu X6100 and love it. I know the 705 is better quality, but for portable used, the internal tuner is awesome.
Thanks for posting the very informative video. It sure looks like a great little ATU. "Does the one you own have a bypass mode?" I use a home brew three band trap vertical and I only need the ATU on the top end of the 40 meter band. On the CW portion of 40 meters and the other two bands, no ATU is needed. I wish the ATU manufactures would give a choice of SO 239's or BNC's. When I operate portable, all of my RF connections are BNC. Size matters to me. Almost all QRP radios use BNC's. Here's another point.....try to find a manual two or three position BNC antenna switch ! Barry, KU3X
My QRP radio transmission is 3.56 watts plus,,,Is there is antenna tuner that will work??? Will this antenna tuner or any antenna tuner work for my radio????
I purchased a digital radio and want to get started. I understand I need a local "address book" to begin to use it. I live in Southern Arizona. Where do I go to get this plugin? Robert Miller N4NRK.
Unfortunately the name is a little bit misleading. Because we call it 'Antenna-Tuner', it does not mean, it will 'tune' our antennas. In fact, it's a 'match-box'. If it is connected at the base of our antenna, it will match the antenna to the cable, a perfect setup! But if the 'Antenna-Tuner' is connected right behind the IC-705, it will 'tune' (match) the [cable + antenna]. And with such a setup, heavy losses, 50% or more, are possible. The SWR at the input of the IC-705 will show a 1:1, the operator will smile, but that's just the match to the electric complex [cable + antenna].
The radio wants or needs to see a perfect match, low SWR 1.1:1 to cause no damage to the power output section. Reflected power due to a high SWR can cause issues with the final output transistors, and most modern radios now have a protection circuit that folds back power to minimum to prevent damage.
I am looking into purchasing a new mobile transceiver and was wondering if anyone can please tell me if there is a Dual band, that is vhf/uhf on one side, then the other side is hf? Thank you and have a nice day.
Until you start looking at what it can actually do.... then it's really impressive. The amount of tech included in the radio is what makes the price easier to swallow for me.

Its nice to see you reviewing stuff again.
I have a ATU-10. Works Great and very small. Great for QRP.
Great! You covered this!
SWR and Power Readings are very accurate

They also blew it by making it only 10 watts max.
You Said It , Man! That's Why My Next Radio Is Going To Be A G90. A Built-In Tuner Means Less Equipment To Lug & Hookup In The Field.
I love my solar on my van home, and I love low draw items that work with my system. 5*. This may be a purchase, very fitting

I'm new to radio, but can I use an antenna turner on a cb radio in a semi truck?
How do you know it is charged ?
Mine doesn't have any L.E.D. 's that might show charging status ?
Non-Amazon link, please?
My QRp rig only makes 5watts max and would not work reliably with this tuner, so back to manual HF tuner
'ScrDel' perhaps, that is Screen Delay? Might be a way to disable the screen to save power. Just a thought.
Great show. Does your rig have an internal tuner and if so, do you use both internal and external in conjunction? De K4CKR

Is that a Freedom R8000 Service monitor?
Yes it is
Nice...............................
What kind of battery charger is included?
It is a dc barrel jack to USB cable
I wish someone would explain what is meant by the term "Make your radio happy."

Yaesu FT 891 does HF and 6 meters only at 100 watts but the FT 818 does HF/VHF/UHF but is qrp 6 watts
The 705 for $1400 without a tuner is absurd.

Right? Then I bought one!
Mine was $60 on eBay
False.
No such thing as antenna tuner atvthecradio.
Put an SWR meter AT the antenna.
Youll prob find thevmatch AT the antenna gets WORSE.
Exactly
Gee whiz, way too much information!
However I would like to buy one for use with my Yaesu FT-817. 😊
My KX2 has a built in tuner and is a better receiver.
Nice setup RUclips (W2YM)
