- Basic Fun's line of Arcade Classics tabletop video game toys were all the rage in the late teens, but new released evaporated around 2020 - or so we thought! Just in the past week, sightings of a new Pac-Man with a 2024 copyright and updated box art started to appear in Walmart retail stores.
Could this be the resurgence of the Arcade Classics line, or just a tiny blip on the radar?

They released a 40th anniversary Pac-Man version back in 2020. In 2021 they continued to sell the non-40th anniversary Pac-Man at Target and still sell it today (I just saw it again this weekend.) When questioning Basic Fun on new releases they said the line was put on hold because of rising costs, part scarcity, and no NY Toy Fair (this was during the pandemic.)
But interesting Walmart decided to go in on the toy again. The last game they carried I think was Mortal Kombat, so maybe we'll see more this holiday season even if they are just rereleases.
I do not know how much I would play one of these but it would look nice on a shelf!
They were always pretty cool to collect. I got a bunch of them and put them on a shelf with a bunch of 6" action figures to make my own little arcade.
Hopefully they make more of these. Was sad that these got discontinued. They are going to have to compete with MyAracde with all their new stuff
We need a larger screen version with louder sound!

I sooooo WANT to see a Tempest and a return of the Centipede due to the one I had was destroyed due to a battery leak.
Hey John, while I don’t think that there’s gonna be a new one, but the series of comparing these games is interesting. Maybe comparing different things instead, like the Arcade/home console VS Atari recharged games. Or comparing the Basic fun cabinets to the real deal. Just an idea.
Basic Fun is most likely testing the waters. They are definitely not old stock from WalMart's warehouses
Have a good selection of these; only major disappointment was the Spy Hunter one, attempting to make it a one-button game (so you lost your machine guns when picking up smokescreen, for instance). Also the Super Impulse Pac-Man and Space Invader micro-cabinets.
I always go to the toy section at Walmart where I found them in stock back in the day. Haven't seen any in sometime. I feel they should be putting them near the video games but never found any there but I'm always looking.
If anything, the only think they did was probably make it somehow bigger! I would really LOVE to have more than 1 game on a cabinet like that. Last time in Walmart I’m not sure if I saw #14 or this one. But it was 40$ and not really worth it at all. And if it even has 5 games then I would yell TAKE MY MONEY!!!!

These were sold under another name in my neck of the woods: My Arcade.
No, My Arcade had its own line. If you care to browse my back catalog, I did extensive reviews for both lines and even compared a few head-to-head.

@@GenXGrownUp because our Walmart sucks, no Arcade 1Ups, My Arcades, they even took out the Arcade that was inside of said Walmart.
But when will we see the return of Jakks Pacific? If those joystick plug n play things just had HDMI...
The company is still humming along. Like Basic Fun, Jakks seems to have shifted away from electronics and leaned more heavily into licensed toys.
I would only be interested if there are some new games. They aren’t on the same level as NewWave toys.
Basically they are fun to leave on your shelves.
They're most certainly not up in the 1:6 scale RepliCade realm, but they're also about 1/6 the price, too!
The only one I have is Spy Hunter and I rarely played that, the basic fun games….
Is a TFT or LCD screen better?
They should also make a Black Tiger version 👍🏻
I don't know the tech myself, by Google tells me, "TFT displays offer higher quality components compared to typical LCD displays, resulting in crisper, brighter, and faster-refreshing screens."
I never know where to find items like this. No one sells them in shops.😕

I have the 2019 version. It’s great, but a little sad that the software port isn’t the same as the original - No Predictability in the ghost movements. Hoping this version is a different port.
Hey John, I know you love the Pac-Man game by basic fun, but there’s some problems with it!
-Ghosts move randomly
-after stage 5 or so, the ghosts only flicker white ounce.
-ghosts don’t slow down in the warp tunnels.
-The game runs at half the speed of the arcade
-doesn’t save high scores
-Pac-man doesn’t round corners.
-There’s no yars’ revenge! Worst crime by far.
We know all those limitations, but still enjoyable in its own right.
I have a majority of these as well as the My Arcade brand. I love the aesthetic of them. My only real complaint is their is no way to keep them on. They timeout after a short time without any activity. I build a miniature arcade using these as well as the My Arcade. Anyone aware of MOD to keep the Classic Arcade ones on?
It would be cool if Basic Fun did premium versions of them

@@GenXGrownUp Ok. I was looking more for like a mini Pac Man or individual games where the marquee lights up. Doesn't really have to be playable, was looking to have a little model of an arcade to display on a shelf, that was all lit up.

I live in mid Missouri and the pacman game has been in stock ever since at target. Never have they stopped putting out pacman there. I do hope basic fun gets more out they were my favorite sets of this type of mini arcades

@@dustheg Are these the ones in a hanging blister pack? Not in a box like I showed, right? (The boxed ones are - or were at least - Walmart exclusives.)
@@GenXGrownUp the LCD color one is in box the gold one is in peg plastic. Our targets in mid Missouri have always had them on an end cap in the toy area near the boardgames. They still sell regularly but always get replenished
I really hope basic fun comes back. I've owned a few basic fun machines when i was 11. Nice to see them returning in a way, they also might re-release the lcd Pac-Man machine because i got one from target a year ago.
My then-girlfriend/now-wife bought me a Q*bert (my favorite arcade game) in 2017. Love it. I’d look forward to more of these in the near future.

If they're really brining those back then I got a bunch of games they should make of those. They are Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat II, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Double Dragon, Donkey Kong, Afterburner, Missile Command, Berzerk, Killer Instinct, Smash TV, and Hang-On.
I only visit the United States once or twice a year, so it was always part of my holiday routine to go Walmart and see what little arcade machines they had. It’s been a few years since I saw the last one, so hopefully this means they’ll start stocking them again.

It's good to see them on the shelves. I'm hoping there's more coming because some of those are actually good to play. It would be nice to see some new titles for sure
