So many ballads and bangers to name (Easy Livin, Lady in Black, Sunrise, Sweet Lorraine, All my Life, Look at Yourself, Stealin, return to fantasy, etc.) but it gets lost in the fold because they weren’t as mainstream as Deep Purple, Sabbath, and others in the 70s

    King Crimson is absolutely one of the most underrated bands of all time. Even in the world of prog rock, they're underrated. They pushed rock with 'In the Court of the Crimson King' (1969) and did so throughout the 70s and 80s with lineup changes. They incorporated jazz fusion and other various musical genres/cultures. Their album 'Red' had a huge influence on Kirt Cobain and 'Discipline', as weird as it is, is a personal favorite of mine.
    I think Wilco is greatly underrated and Jellyfish ('Spilt Milk')
    And ya know, I'd put Radiohead on there because the only song people seem to know is "Creep", which is an absolute crime.

    • @unknown6390
      @unknown6390 Год назад +4

      This is ridiculous. Really? Epitaph has 5 million views. King Crimson literally influenced so many other popular bands. Kanye West sampled 21st Century. I hate when you people want to call something underrated just cause a band or artist isn't as ubiquitous as Jesus H. Christ (The Beatles)

    • @unknown6390
      @unknown6390 Год назад +2

      Radiohead? The band, especially Yorke got fucking depressed because they got too popular too fast. Listen to more music

    • @ThatFaceMelter94
      @ThatFaceMelter94 Год назад +1

      @@unknown6390 You're argument to prove they aren't underrated is by saying how many views ONE of their songs have and that another artist sampled them (and nobody knows it's even them, let alone who they are). I bet you'd have a hard coming across people who've heard of them if you asked around.
      I also bet you'd be hard pressed to come across people who know of a Radiohead song that isn't "Creep". Long story short, you said an awful lot of nothing.

    • @tristanfrench7198
      @tristanfrench7198 Год назад +1

      YES! Jellyfish are so underrated. Wilco are pretty big though (Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is a classic album that many people know) and Radiohead/King Crimson are absolutely massive, some of the biggest bands out there.

    • @unknown6390
      @unknown6390 Год назад

      Get out more. You may be older than me but everyone I come across knows about those two bands. My arguments are completely valid. Just cause everyone's Grandma may not be able to know who those two are certainly doesn't mean underrated. XTC comes to mind as very underrated band. I recently listened to most of their catalog and they have so many great songs. Their albums are lush and complex, yet have a great pop sensibility, but can push the envelope to edge of a prog rock. I think I listen to Skylarking continuously for a week. And as a bassist, I think I rank Colin Moulding up there with the greats. If you are into the Beatles and the Kinks, dive in. You won’t be disappointed.

Indie bands are called indie as they are independent and don't sign to mainstream labels. Least that was the case in the 90s.Any alternative band in the 90s and 00s would not exist if it wasn't for the Pixies.

    Few thoughts on this list.
    1. The Kinks & Deep Purple have influence on popular music as The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, The Who, Velvet Underground, Black Sabbath etc, defined generations in the years since & were both inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. No way in hell they're underrated.
    2. Triumph are just copycats of Rush & didn't changed anything in rock & roll by lacking artistic influence & innovation.
    3. The Replacements & Pixies are considered as the bands who influenced the 90's alternative scene with their sound.
    The list isn't bad but it's not excellent either!

    As a Canadian I’m definitely happy seeing Triumph and The Guess Who on here since they’re some of the best Canadian bands but I don’t know if I’d say Deep Purple, the Pixies and The Kinks (plus Smoke On the Water and You Really Got Me are some of the most iconic classic rock songs and some of the first riffs you learn on guitar) are underrated because they’re all equally influential but some other bands I’d include for this list would be Against Me!, Bloodhound Gang (even though they mainly have a lot of joke songs they’re still really good as a rock band), The Stone Roses, Hüsker Dü, Mountain, Kreator, April Wine, CKY, Kings of Leon and L7 just to name a few

    1) The Jam. Unfortunately, they were too English to catch on un the States.
    2) The Smithereens. Catchy riffs and smooth as silk vocals.
    Glad you have the Replacements on this list. 14 Songs, Paul Westerberg's solo debut is an under-the-radar tour dovforce.

    As underrated as Kansas was, they sure acted like they were the Beatles. I met them when my fiance's band opened for them. Not likable kind peeps.

    Personally I would put Suede on this list. They are probably the most under-recognized British band of the 90s.

    Dunno if alternative counts but I’d
    say Jimmy Eat World! It’s a shame they’re only known for The Middle

    In some parts of the world, Deep Purple is HUGE, like fucking Mammoth in the minds and hearts of rock/metalheads.

    Deep purple the kinks Kansas and blue oyster cult are popular bands sure it's only songs like "highway star smoke on the water you really got me going lola dust in the wind carry on my wayward son subhuman Godzilla burning for you and don't fear the reaper" but still big hits by big bands that shouldn't be on this list

    Georgia Satellites. Yes they sounded like the Stones but in the mid to late 80s, they did the Stones better than the Stones themselves at the time.

      Absolutely. What Sweet did from 1972 to 1978 was unbelievable. They crossed several genres: punk, glam rock, blues, heavy metal, speed metal, pop and progressive rock.

    100% agree wiith the Pixies being in number 1; every single time radio stations put them on, it's "here comes your man", always. They have many more good songs besides that one.

      Not to mention that’s not even a top 5 pixies track. “Hey” is an unbelievably better and memorable song. Not even mentioning other classics like river Euphrates, Bone Machine, tame debaser, broken face, where is my mind, and gigantic

    I agree that BOC is underrated, but I think UFO is the definition of under-recognized classic hard rock band, they should have been much bigger than they actually were.
