Out of all the serrated CS knives I’ve used on targets, the BT2 and Tiger Claw have outputted the most damage from a single slash. Been through too many CS knives, XHP Espada XL’s, XHP Voyager Vaquero with the signed box from Lynn, all the way to Rajah/countless others. The BT2 and Tiger Claw slash through clothing and into the skin much easier, and surprisingly left deeper wound cavities than the serrated Vaquero on more than 7 occasions. Didn’t matter if it was AUS 10 or Carpenter’s offering with the black diamond like coating. The serrated recurve of the Vaquero is great for slashing of course, combined with more range from being 12.25 inches in OAL, but it could not compare to the reverse “s” curve of the Talon, and Karambit of the Tiger claw where can drag your cuts from the tip of the blade inches to feet upon the parameters of depth and length depending on your experience, and purpose for use of the exact moment. I highly respect all knives due the nature and legality of their purpose(s), but these 2 are on another level in terms when you actually use them, and see with your own two eyes what you are capable of doing to a human being.
I love both of them. I prefer the tiger claw for devastating reverse grip hooks. The metal ring can also be used to strike with. You can also put your pinky in the ring to secure the knife for more reach and use it in a chopping motion. The talon ii has a bit longer reach, but overall the tiger claw is more practical for me.
@@Thief-d3c the deployment of the tiger claw from the ring is smooth from the box. Grip hooks, especially if you’re within range of your target are devastating. I’ve made 2 units sharpened with the backside of the blade for the addition of reverse slashes. Front left and front right pocket carry, they’re ridiculously light weight.
Even after adding the cog ring to the BT2 to mimic the Emerson wave like feature, I still prefer the grip hook feel on the tiger claw. The blade is also wider than the BT2 blade.
@@zedc7250 I really dislike the cog ring mod for the talon, or the ring on the tiger claw when held in reverse grip. It doesn’t feel secure in the hand like an actual karambit due to the longer length. It feels wobbly if you know what I mean. In the normal grip with pinky in the ring, it prevents the knife from flying out of your hand and it gives you better reach for chopping action. In reverse grip with the index finger in the ring, it feels very weak and unnatural.
The talon has a more acute tip to pierce into flesh like butter. The deeper curve of the tiger claw allows it to rip through anything, especially when throwing hooks.
The talon is better for slashing with the normal blade up grip. The tiger claw is a monster when held in reverse grip. Personally, the tiger claw is more versatile for me with its metal ring and stronger blade. The ring makes its easy to wave out and for a quick utility cut. Both of these are top cold steel knives. The tiger claw is just my favorite of all time.
@@Thief-d3c not only that, but the ring mod for the BT2 also wobbles a bit, regardless of how much you tighten the T screws. However, if you practice with it for years over time on real targets, the damage output for both for the BT2 and Tiger claw are nearly the same for slashing.
Sometimes having a knife for one specific task is absolutely perfect. For example, my vaquero fully serrated is strictly for rabid wild zombie vampires and dont want to rely on a knife inuse for everyday tasks and risking a dull or rolled edge. Hiwever, carrying 5 knives on me daily isnt a huge issue.
Lynn contacted the designer of the Civilian and asked him if it was OK if he improved upon his design. He said OK. So, literally everything about the Black Talon II is better because all Lyunn did was take the design and improve upon it in every way possible. Too bad you didn't get the proper CTS-XHP steel one. I've got three of them, it's my favorite steel.
Considering that Sal… The owner of SPYDERCO knives was the one that designed it I kind of have my doubts about the veracity of those claims but the fact is that I have a tendency to disagree. I find the matriarch two to be a little better for a lot of things… Don’t get me wrong cold st33”’s black talons series is an incredibly good self-defense tool but I honestly prefer the smaller size and ease of carry that you get from the matriarch 2
Nice review! I took off the clip on my Talon 2 and put a tiny piece of duct tape in front of the first screw hole, put the clip back on and tightened it down and it opened the clip so it's still lightly holds to the pocket but can be deployed quick and easy! Also, for pure self-defense you can change the clip for point down carry (You need to understand that you will lose a Lot of reach doing this!) But on the Plus: waving the knife forward out of the pocket is a much faster way to deploy the blade into action, very important in a life and death situation (The only time you would need a knife like this wicked beast!)
Whoooooaaa Cold Steel knives and a Quarterling sponsorship?
Awesome 👍🔪⚔️🗡️
You know it!
I use mine landscaping everyday. It's like alil mini saw in my pocket.
Imo any folding knife is not a good option for self defense perspuse simply because of its nature. Its not about the strongest lock or how fast can you deploy it. During opening it so many things can go wrong. Even if you traing with it - while drawing you have to readjust your grip, you can also just stop the blade for opening just because of the sleeve of your jacket.
You can have diffrent opinion but for me only fixed blades works well for the purpose.
It doesnt mean you wont be able to protect yourself with a folding knife. You certainly could do it but if its about the speed of drawing, full grip on a knife handle and durability - full tangs are impossible to beat.
The design and function of the knife was specifically made for women who don't have any real experience or training in knife fighting to prevent them from being raped in africa and those with no experience to simply use as a flailing weapon. Whatever opinion you might have about your experience with fixed blades or whatever doesn't apply.
That knife is snuty nosed knife. You cannot stab with it. Making it a useless item for defense.
It might work well against animals as they dont wear any clothing but 2leg species, it could be an issue. And thats a folder; imo these are mainly tools, sure you could use them for self defense but why if you can have much more reliable fixed blade
@xklocu1812 I would prefer a fixed blade over a folding blade. Both Buck and Schrade make good folding knives. I had a $40. Buck that was nice as well as I am sure. That their $100 to $400. Folders are beautiful pieces of fine craftsmanship. Paying $1,500 for a folding knife. Seems way over priced verses. How much tier of quality you can get for that amount of money spent.
The best self defense for y’all is that y’all real stupid and don’t understand the concept behind the design hope you’re never in front of one and realize how stupid y’all are 😂😂😂
You know nothing about knife fighting .

Sorry, but its a self defence knife, and, for me,its small, easy to carry. If itwas smaller, itwouldnt work so well as a smaller knife,it'd be useless, being smaller.
