man that guy walked right past a fire extinguisher to go outside and call the fire department. he could have had that handled in about three seconds! what a shame
Probably wouldn't know how to use it if he did tried to use it. I worked at a job where an idiot could not figure out how to pull the pin on the fire extinguisher to get it to work. He just shook it like a caveman. He refused to give up the fire extinguisher. I guess he wanted to be the big hero or something, so a co-worker busted him in the mouth then took it. Lucky the co-worker got the fire out. The confused idiot was fired for not giving the fire extinguisher up. We had training in what to do during a fire and how to use a fire extinguisher guess who was messing with their phone during that training.
He walked right past the fire extinguisher. He could have put that right out.
SMFH right, the dude left the door open...... then proceeds to walk directly passed a fire extinguisher on his way OUT of the building. holy mother of god!! Lack of common sense, one person could have saved every one of those dryers, the insulation and work to repair.......
Hi! Keenan, thanks for sharing this video but very sorry for your loss. I also own a laundromat and last year around Thanksgiving, one of my stack dryer also caught fire due to customer overloading their clothes. I wasn’t at my premise at that time but I was very lucky that one of my customer was a fireman doing his laundry there, he put out the fire with the fire extinguisher in less than a minute, no major damage to the dryer! This is part of the risk of owning a laundromat with only cameras monitoring the place! Hope it won’t take too long for you to get the place running again!
Many people are giving that guy a hard time for not grabbing the extinguisher. In his defense, he probably started panicking, you usually don't think too clearly when that happens, maybe that's why he opened the dryer door too. At least he dialed 911 instead of just doing nothing, otherwise that damage would have expanded well beyond that back room and the dryers.
Yea I dont expect customers to put out fires. I do wish he had left the door closed. But when I met him he was pretty upset. You right about calling that the best thing.
As a FF - quick work - and glad it didn't get into the roof! Your right -- sometimes the access and mop up is the biggest destructor -- they didn't really know whether there was anything going 'behind' the machines.... I know the whole situation sucks; but - hopefully it's the onus to make some upgrades while your at it; and the customers will appreciate the reinvestment. Happy Thanksgiving!
Yes I'm very lucky our FFer's are second to none.
As a firefighter, yes Keenan you are right If that door would have been left shut and the dryer would have snuffed out the fire! He just fed oxygen to that fire. Every 60 seconds a fire gets more intense by the fuel of oxygen. A term we use in the firefighting world is "Overhauling" Term used to check for extension of fire and that's why they tear up the place of where the fire started this is to prevent further loss from fire!
Probably left a lighter in the wash. Omg. The things that happen in your laundromats you just couldn't make this up. Happy thanks giving Keenan. ☺
If your dryer gets hot enough to set things on fire it’s the dryers fault, not the lady for putting a large load in.
says the millennial. Read your labels many items say dry on low heat. No worries its always the fault of something or somebody never you. Yes Keenan I own a laundromat.
I could tell! LOL. Yea what actually happen was the customer had a small handsantize bottle in pants. Needless to say it didnt like heat.
@@FollowingKeenan My first dryer fire was caused by a lint tray switch that shorted and sparked. Second was a massage therapist that didn't come close to getting all the oil out when she washed. (gross) This is over a 10 year period so not to bad.
@@Sir_Flib First of all, I’m not a millennial. Second of all, Ok boomer.
He opens the door and walks right passed a fire extinguisher
This is good to know if this ever happens to me; don’t touch nothing that doesn’t belong to you.
Thank you for taking time out of your day to upload, especially on thanksgiving.
Happy Thanksgiving, Keenan!
Thats a real quick fire dept response. From fire to there in about 6 minutes. Prob took the guy 30 sec-1 minute to get connected to an operator.
Fire damage: $2000. Firefighters damage: $10000. 😁
With the fire inside the dryer even a sprinkler would not of helped as the main fire was protected inside using the clothes as fuel. It would of knocked down the fire outside but the smoke and heat would keep coming out.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Keep up the awesome videos. And as long as no one was hurt that's everything can be replaced.
Sorry for your troubles brother. That guy could have put that out quick with the fire extinguisher by the front door. but he at least called FD
Could have at least shut the door...some people. Business owners see it all!
It would be cool to do a top 10 weird funky customers
Thank you Keenan for your videos. I bet you it cost you a fortune. Happy Thanksgiving, stay safe out there my friend.
Happy Thanksgiving to you too Keenan
Thanks for these laundromat lessons and antics
Why is it that I usually see these fires in Speed Queen dryers?
Speed Queen is one of the industry’s top manufacturers of commercial washers and dryers (I don’t work or represent them in any way). Looking at the video the dryer is not the problem. The most common cause comes down to the operator error i.e. - drying contents such as rubber backed rugs, foam pillows and the occasional lighter left in a pocket. Most people don’t know or read about the warning label on the face of the dryer drum door.
Keenan, do you have a fire alarm system at your laundromats? If not, probably something to consider. Imagine if NO ONE called the fire department.
Wow! Thankful no one was hurt. Too bad the guy didn’t close the dryer door before he went outside. Will you have to gut the place and start over because of smoke damage?
Thanks for your help, and videos, I am learning so much. I am trying to buy a mini laundromat and I have little hesitation, because my budget is limited and I don't want to make a mistake! Can you please make another video about opening new laundromat, the all equipment, tanks (there is a tank to collect the water) and more details if any about new laundromat. Your first video was great but I hope to see little more details about the gray water, and other pluming problems? thanks and God Bless
Will do.
Hope you and your family are doing well, and happy Thanksgiving.
I subscribe to your channel and I used to get notifications whenever you posted a new video. Sometime in mid-October, I suddenly stopped receiving notifications for this or ANY of the channels I am subscribed to. I have no idea why I stopped receiving notificaitons and I have not been able to find out how to fix it. Unfortunately, RUclips does not have a customer service number I can call, so I guess I'm just screwed for now.
Good thing the fire dept. was able to put that out in time, lucky you didn’t loose the whole place man. That guy shoulda never left that door open.. I get people can get scared when they see fire but for god sake of it erupted into flames like that when you opened it then what do you think is gonna happen when you LEAVE it open.. he shoulda shut the door and looked for an extinguisher or just shut the door and called the fire dept. but it’s a good thing he was there in the same sense cuz if it wasn’t for him that whole place woulda prolly burned to the ground so really he deserves a Thankyou even tho he did some harm has well not knowing it
Draw back the high temp setting by 10 degrees.
Prayers your coin laundry can still get repaired.
Happy Thanksgiving And Be Safe
Man.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family
so sorry about this hope you rebound and things are much better.
Happy thanksgiving Keenan
the guy could of put it out. but where the hell was the owner of the clothes at?
Many people leave their clothes in the machines and go do something else while they wait for them to wash and dry. It's pretty common actually.
The owner of the clothes set the dryers for 40 mins and left. They didnt come back till couple hours later. I bet the clothes were dry in 20 mins. Customer do this all the time, waste energy and money drying dry clothes.
@@FollowingKeenan Seems like people still leave their clothes unattended in Unattended Coin Laundries. For the most part, yeah clothes usually gets dry in 20 min. Towels, usually longer. As for most clothes I own, I don't use the highest heat on them.
Like in my I heard something in my dryer and the washer
It was at my house
if there was an absence of air in that dryer, the fire could have smoldered out and if he open that door after it smoldered and there was no air, it would be a lot worse
That's common sense what a dummy close the door 🤔🇨🇦
thank you for the great content from a friendly canadian neighbor
we have to have sprinklers in our com buildings if you have them that fire would have been put out in mins and damage mimized we have them by code now.
What did the lady say when she came back to burned clothes? Hopefully you didn't have to repay her.
Happy Thanksgiving!! Be Safe!!
What if a dryer was mounted on a some sort of digital scale that would set off an alarm and cause the dryer to not operate if it is overloaded?
Not sure what you can do to stop something like that from happening.
Wish people had more common sense. That was a very small fire he should have grabbed the fire extinguisher he walked right past on the way out and put the fire out or at least not opened the door on the dryer.
THIS GUY had a Government Education. Be a useless coward, but report! Report!
Happy Thanksgiving
And the lady who caused this was probably gone!
She came back later to get her clothes.
@@FollowingKeenan Her crispy fried clothes? 🤣
Tipping trailers
😰😔
sorry man
What cause the fire ?
It was something in the drum, likely something flammable left in a pocket
Do laundromats really make good passive income? Overtime at least? Even after renovations, damaged property, or cost of maintenance. Are Laundromats really a good investment for long term and are they actually profitable? How much of the money do you keep after payments and what do you do with it?
The quarters are recycled and the money he makes mostly goes towards utilities and insurance.

Here is a great review with details on potential cameras to replace those with if you don't have any other specific ideas. I hope you get it back up and running sooner than later.
Bet she had lighters in her clothes.
My first thought was a cell phone. The lithium batteries in cell phones would start a fire like that.
Could be something as simple as a artical of clothing that's not supposed to be put in a dryer
