  • November marks the Maaveerar remembrance month. This month is dedicated to remember and pay our respect to the Maaveerar who sacrificed their lives in the freedom fight.
    More than 40,000 Maaveerar(Maaveerar) reached Veerachaavu (Martyrdom) since early 70s till 2009. Their ultimate sacrifices paved the path for liberation.
    The Maaveerar naal held annually on 27th of November. The first Maaveerar Naal was held on 27th of November 1989. The date was chosen as it was the anniversary of the first Maaveerar to die in combat, Lt. Shankar , who died on 27th November 1982. On 27th November 1989 around 600 Maaveerar gathered secretly in the jungles near Nithikaikulam in Manal Aru, Mullaitivu to commomerate the first Maaveerar naal.
    During November Tamils around the the world celebrates the Maaveerar and conduct many social activities, competitions and events such as honouring Maaveerar families, remembrance events of Maaveerar naal, blood donations, speech and other art competitions.
    The national flower of Tamileelam, Flames Lilly/Kaarthigai poo (Gloriosa superba) symbolizes the Maaveerar. Tamils rise the National flag in front of their houses and decorate with Yellow and Red during this month.
